Anyone know?
I have a Hitachi 2050 DVD-R coming this week, a PS2 with a NEO-Key, that seems to work fine with backup CDRs and original DVDs and PSX games. My question is: I've read things about certain MOD-Chips frying the laser, and certain models not being able to read DVD-Rs... Does anyone have a specific list handy to let me know what to look out for? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

the neo key will NOT play dvd-r backups.
I dunno about your burner, but make sure it actually burns dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw etc will not work. |
Arakon means that the +'s won't work; DVD-R and DVD-RW do work with a PS2 that is capable of booting backup DVD games, which yours isn't with the NEO-Key as Arakon says.

Thanks for the advice... I actually re-installed Win2000 which allowed me to make a "larger-than" 4,000mb (Due to NTFS limitations) image using Nero, which in turn I can burn a DVD-R with, and I ordered one of the "solder-less" mod-chips available after Feb 4th from "gamegizmo.com" which supposedly can play the DVD-R backups, so I should be set. Anyone need a USB Mod chip? (Let me know.) Thanks for all your help and advice.

dvd-rw does by far not work on all models.. only the newest ones with a new laser unit are capable of reading them fine, most older units will not be able to read dvd-rw.

Actually the Neo key does play DVD-R's using the knife method, I'm quite happily playing msg2 at the mo. goto www.cousinfizz.4mg.com for more info on the knife method :)

Thanks for all of the info. I've re-vamped my game plan and have the "solder-less" mod coming... (I have the scph30001r) and a pioneer ao3 DVD-R coming on friday. The Hitachi GF-2050 I ordered ended up being a DVD-RAM (it could read DVD-Rs, but not write 'em!) which won't serve much purpose I suppose... My wife is gonna love my excuses for this one!
