What's the magic word?
Am I supposed to say please? Oh, wait, I have, and even that doesn't work. Seriously, I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of to get my PSX backups to play properly, but nothing works. I have been reading and doing research on this forum for about a week now and I still can't figure out what the problem is. The only game I have gotten to work is DDR Best Mix burned with Blindwrite on an Imation CD using PSX-Change 2 to load it. All my other game appear to BURN just fine, but they refuse to load past the PSX-Change "insert disc" screen...
One thing I see people heavily debating is whether or not the brand of CD-R's actually make a difference. Some of you swear by Verbatim Azo, Sony and TDK and can't or won't use anything else. Others say they get perfect results using cheaper/lower quality media. Does the media make any difference at all? I have tried using the black Memorexes, regular Memorexes and Imations (which up until now I though were pretty good CD's) and am having loads of problems. Of course I don't know if they are being caused by my choice of CD's or something else entirely. I have also tried using all of the recommended burning programs and nothing really seems to work. I got ONE game to work when using Blindwrite: DDR Best Mix, but even that game has major sound/FMV skipping problams and my PSX has a terrible time loading a stage...sometimes it will take 5 minutes, if it even does it at all. However, I have tried other games with Blindwrite and they don't work. I also don't have any luck with CDRWin or CDClone. No dice with slow speeds such as 4x, 2x or even 1x, either... Another debated topic is the use of external vs internal modchips. Most people seem to agree that the internal ones are superior, but for what reason? I thought that the only purpose of a modchip/parallel port device/boot disk was simply to bypass the PSX's boot sequence and let you load a game that was not made on an "official" Sony approved stamped disc. I have a PSX-change 2...would I have better results with an internal chip of some sort, and if so, why? What makes an internal better than an external. My Playstation model is an SCPH-1001. Does the fact that it is the earlest model have something to do with my problems? I have tried using it upside down, cleaned the laser, and have a fan blowing on it's power supply side. None of these things seem to have any effect on how the games play. I'm sorry for the very lenghty post, but it's better to have more information than you need as opposed to less...:) ANY suggestions or advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Hamo |
My bag is PS2 (i.e I'm not PS expert) and there the modchip is important. The internally wired modchips reach each important register and can thus do more for less patching (in some cases). The external modchips are constrained by the port to which they are attached.
On your copying problem (which has the same rules for PS/PS2), the magic word MIGHT be "Burner". The burner should have a strong laser and it should support RAW+96 for protected games burnt with CloneCD. Media matters most with a cheap burner. In making the above reply, I assume that your burning software is licensed or in demo date. |
The magic words might be, MY PSX IS A DINOSAUR. With a PSX this old the laser is bound to be worn and will have trouble reading some of the cheaper media, also you failed to mention what burner you are using.

Bah...I used the Modify button...stupid forum...:P
I seriously doubt that my burner is the problem as I have a Plextor 16x10x40A, unless the best CD-writer (IMHO) can't burn PSX games worth crap. I do have the 1 year warranty from Babbage's though, so if something really was wrong with my Playstation, I could swap it for a new (used) one. However, the Babbage's I got it at is in Kansas City and I am away at college so it wouldn't really be convenient to ##### it in until around Thanksgiving probably... Hamo |
get an internal modchip and your problem is solved. you are doing everything else perfectly.

get rid of your psx and get a new one or even better get a ps2 as this will play all your old games also.
