....anyone tried using this medium?

So being a black CD, does this mean U can copy the original game to it and play it on the PSX/PS1 and PS2?

It's nothing but a Black Cd-R..Just because you copy a Playstation Data doesn't mean it will automatically run on the machine..
Think about it?! If that was the case I think everybody would try to get these..No need for Mod-Chip then right?!

I thought the pigment of the colour of the CD was one of the main PSXs copyright protection.

Have U tried it?... or has anyone else?

that was the funnest thing i've seen for a long time if the colour of the cd is a protection why the need for mod chips just like EZ CD says plus one of the rules of the forum is to search before posting and he would of seen that 99.9% of the black cdr's are crap and do not work plus not all games are potected but they all are on black cd (unless its ps2 game which then it would be a dvd game)

It's not a copy right protection it's a copy protection, the extra layer absorbs the scratches so the disk won't be effected, it makes them last longer. You need a really deep scratch that will cut through the black layer and the source layer of the disk to ruin it, this does happen but most disk scratches are just from setting it down which the extra layer was added to protect from, Sony knew kids would be handling these disk and wanted to make sure that the games would last longer then a regular CD.

Dont worry mate i used to use some crap media before i realised what the hell i was doing. Some people say that those BLACK CDRs are great for backups, but i would say stay clear cos ive never had any success. The best CDR-S are branded ones, for example TDK, SONY or if you can get some VERBATIUM datalfie plus CDRs they have a dark blue layer so your PS1 or PS2 will love them. I have been using Verbatium for years now and they have never given me any gip.

I strongly agreed..I used them while back about 6 months ago but my success Rate is about .55% from my estimates..Some games work but others majority of the times it would not work at all..
So for the left overs I used it to burn DC games or PC games instead..Also this is kinda crazy but I heard you shouldn't use off brand CDR's on your CDR Drive because it has tendency to wear out the Drive..It's kinda silly but I'm not about to take chance on it..Sort of like Premium is better than Regular on your Car! heh..Heh..
Stick with Verbatim,Sony and Imation..although TDK I do not like too much..Personally SONY for me..

The Black cd-r's are great for psx and ps2 backups. But to answer a question, psx and ps2 have the protection in the hardware itself, has nothing to do with the cd color. There are some games that will have a protection built in and can recognize the use of a plug in mod, i use a 7 wire stealth in mine and it works on all my backups. Good thing about dreamcast is protection is in the cd-r and that is why you don't have to mod a dreamcast. I use the black cd-r's on my favorite psx and ps2 backups and i have not had one problem with them, other than they cost more and i can't make my whole collection with them. Thanks Tim

I have used the black cd's and hadn't had any problems. I was told to stay away from all cd's except silver or gold colored. as the color is usually related to the price. cheap cd's will leave deposits on your laser lens. while good or expensive cd's will not. So I was told. But I have not found any bad effects using any cdr's I have used about 7 different brands and generics. all were fine. the only problem was my buring speed. slower is better for psx.

Steer clear of black CDRW media, regardless of the brand, they are far more trouble than they are worth! Stick to a good branded media like TDK, Verbatum, Sony etc...

I use black cdr's all the time and have no problem, what I hear is that it's not the cdr's that cause a problem it's actually the burner, certain burners have trouble with different coloured media the black coating makes it so the lazer can't shine through and reach the recording layer!!

As for Verbatim's, Sam's club has the best one's they come with a no label on top, no wording just colored white so when you put your label on there's no words showing through!!
