ntsc to pal?

hi, I've just bought a chipped psx2 SCPH-30000R. jap version and I'm trying to play it on a pal tv in th UK. however every time the games loads up, the screen is black and white. can anybody tell me how to fix this problem. (I'm playing backup cds using the action replay 2 v1.9 to boot up).
also can anyone tell me if there's a way of playing backup dvds games without having to buy an original dvd with a large TOC???
is there also a way of playing all regions dvds on this machine???
and how do the patches work from downloading the files from megagames.com

ANSWER: Get a fully loaded SCART lead for PS2 (like BLAZE from HMV) - to RGB spec - preferaby the one with the switch between movie and game. That'll sort the problem out. Or an NTSC-PAL convertor from Maplins (which I used tohave until I hooked up to a widescreen TV which accepted NTSC through the AV sockets).

ANSWER: Depends on your modchip. If it's a 1.25 OrigaChip, you can boot DVD-Rs with DVD Region X.

ANSWER: With DVD Region X, but it won't play PAL DVD movies.
