IS NEO4 WORTH IT??????

I just recently bought a PS2, and plan to mod it. I heard about the NEO4 and how good it is and all, but i have absolutely no idea how to solder stuff, and i heard its 28 wires. Is it worth risking my PS2 trying to attach all the wires, or is there a better solution?

larrymoses 22-08-2001 18:54

go with the neokey. only one wire to solder and easy spot to.

My advice to you is to wait and read the first posts on how well NEO4 works. A modchip is better than a key because it reaches the critical parts directly rather than through the limited "view" afforded by the port plus a wire. Get the modchip professionally installed for an additional £30 or so.

Hi,

As Charlie says dont go for a neokey get yourself a mod-chip, check out www.playstationmods.com they have a list of chippers who will install a mod-chip for you, thats what i did and well impressed with my PS2 NEO2.2 chip

The NEO4 is some serious piece of kit but im quite happy with my NEO2.2 chip and use my REGION X as a boot cd, i have no plans to upgrade to the NEO4 yet.

Cheers

I will buy NEO4 to play with on a spare PS2 before replacing my modchip.com modchip (with which I am totally delighted).

I wish I had a 'SPARE' Ps-2 floating around i could try a Chip on.

LOL

what's so good about the neo4? Can it finally play original PS2 import games?

Charlie 24-08-2001 05:52

I don't think that it will play PS2 originals. That part of the boot process gets in first.

DEANO - yep, we bought three JAP PS2s in HK; two of them are with families (one of which is the soldering wizzo, one is mine) and the wizzo has the third one. So the JAP PS2 community can eagerly await our posts.

Charlie,

So why did you decide to get a JAP PS2 over a PAL system, not trying to be a smart g*t, just interested in you choice, what does a jap system have over a PAL system??

Cos you also use a modchip.com mod not a NEO mod dont you???

Dal, Thanks for your question.

It was a Christmas 2000 thing. No UK PS2s available and plenty (I mean plenty) of PS2 games in Hong Kong. There are outlets in the UK that supply Jap original games (slightly cheaper than UK games) and modchip.com was available sooner than NEO2 to a standard upon which I could rely. Indeed, I've stuck with the first release modchip that boots off the Utility Disk. NTSC games pass through a NTSC-PAL convertor to achieve colour; the patches don't always work and are a pain. We have no trouble playing the majority of UK/PAL backups (we take the convertor out for PAL games); EA games are a problem at the moment as the swap tricks are geared to NEO2 solutions. So we have to live with Jap originals as for DVDs. They are not a problem to obtain and most of them are out early. For example, I'll get FF X soon. So I'm very pleased with the Jap solution.

As for dear SimonBradley, we've all been there haven't we? By the time he reaches his 50 he might actually have cracked it! Of course he'll think he's reached 50 when he's actually reached 40!

Cheers
