gta(1)

according to some sites this game is NOT protected however i'm not able to make a backup with clonecd.the programs starts and after about 6% it stops and doesn't function anymore!
what's wrong?
clony.exe tells me the game is protected.

GTA1

No versions of this game are protected.
The CD may be scratched. U could still play the original without knowing its scratched but it will stop on the backup.
Also ##### you have lots of free HD space as this helps Alot

Yeah it sounds like your original may have a scratch, but there are other options. Give cdrwin a try, even if the disk has errors, it will keep going and tell you how many there are. Also before you use cdrwin give the disk surface a clean. But make sure you know how to clean the surface, or you can do more damage (centre to outside, NOT round in circles). I can make a difference, I've done it. Give these a shot.

Cheers

Bl@de 18-04-2001 18:36

it could be that there are errors on the cd ##### the log file in clone cd and if there are errors enable fast error skip.

BOT 18-04-2001 18:53

This is getting tiresome.
There are NO PSX games that have deliberate bad sectors or unreadable sectors on them.
The only reasons that you may not be able to read a PSX cd is due to damage to the original cd or a cd that was originally badly pressed.
THE NEXT POSTER TO INTIMATE THAT PSX GAMES HAVE ANY TYPE OF BAD SECTORS IS SIGNING HIS OWN EXIT FROM THIS FORUM!!

skewesy 18-04-2001 19:23

Yo, BOT-CK. I'm not sure if you were reffering to my post, or the dude after me, but I was in no way saying that there were deliberate errors placed on psx games. I was saying that if surface errors exist, such as scrathes or dirt, then cdrwin will tell you how many errors there are. If there are only a few then you can still get away with burning the game, with a few glitches some of the time. Sometimes if you clean the surface, the number of errors comes down.

BOT 18-04-2001 19:31

Referring to Bl@de's posting.

Thanks dude, Cheers.

When or how does cdrwin tell you how many errors there are? I made a new backup without burning and didn't get any spontaneous error report.Does one have to look it up in a log file?If so where can i find it?
Thanks for replying!

"I made a new backup without burning "
Just how did you manage this?

skewesy 19-04-2001 18:50

Bersjam, I think I know what you are on about, but you may want to edit your above message if I am wrong. As cdrwin is imaging a disk it tells you what % is complete. If it finds a scratch or dirt on the surface and can't read that part, then it will class it as an error and just under the % complete line, an error line will appear. If there are no errors found reading the disk then this line will not appear. There probably is some form of log, but I just watch as it images to see if any errors are there. If you have never come across errors then good luck to you, as they are only a pain.

No errors appeared when using cdrwin but when we tried playing the backup burned with cdrwin we could see the intro movie and hear the sounds but playing the game was impossible, the "loading line" stopped and nothing happened anymore!
Since my first post i tried burning the game with clonecd, nero and cdrwin as a test of the best burning program: clonecd frooze at 6% while burning, the other 2 programs burned a succesfull yet unplayable cd!
I think i will stop trying making backups of this game, my dustbin is getting full of bad copies...
