MOD CHIP FOR PS2 - NEED SOME INFO
Im going to install a mod chip in my PS2 and from what I can gather the NEO2 is the best. Does this require Action Replay to run backups or with this chip can you just boot direct from the disc? If it does need Action Replay is their any chip due for release in the near future that boots discs direct?

As far as I know the chip can play "copied PSX" as well as PS2. I in the process of getting one too. I was told the best place to visit is at www.playstationmods.com. It may be more expensive then other places but this place has a technical support line etc, and the others don't.

Yeah Omni, 'Playstationmods.com' is meant to be one of the best services available for chips. I'm just wondering if it is worthwhile to wait to see if a chip comes out that allows u to boot direct without using the 'swap trick' which I take it u have to do with the NEO2?

Just called a friend. I was told it requires you to do the swap like 3 or 4 times(Neo2) just to get the game started. As far as anything else, there's nothing out thats worth the money and doesn't require a swap. So I'm just going to wait until something more stable comes out.

I have a mod chip from www.modchip.com it works great. u need GS2/AR2 to make it work. Only swap once. easy to copy games.

I have a PS2 and a NEO2 chip!
The Neo2 chip is a bitch to fit, but I know a man by the name of Funkie that will do such a fitting, also supplying the Chip and a capacitor to make sure the laser doesn't drop power due to the fitted chip! U can find him on www.backburner.f2s.com. The NEO2 chip allows you to play Backups/Imports of PS2 games as long as you own an Action Replay 2 card. With the new type PS2 having been released, the AR2 v1.3 will not work with it. Version 1.4 of the Action Replay 2 card should bypass this problem, but it has not been released yet. The Neo3 chip is being developed by Paul from PlayStationMods and this chip will not be released until it is a non-swap-trick chip for PSx and PS2 games. The PSx emulator in the PS2 will play backups, but originals have to be booted by holding the reset for 1 second. No hardship there really! PS2 originals boot as normal. You would be waiting round a long time for the NEO3, as the task is an exceptional one! I hope this information is of use to you. Most of this I've written into our website anyway! L8rz |
Cheers for all the info esp Arckane! So without doubt it looks like a swap free chip is quite some time away?? My PS2 is very recent, only got it around 3 weeks ago so any things I should watch out for? IE: version of Action Replay, etc. Another thing I take it that any games released/going to be released on DVD format will not be able to be burnt the usual way to work with the NEO2 chip?
