The only firmware available is from TEAC.

I have a Teac W54E burner as well. I'm surprised your having troubles with cdrwin, and don't think it is your firmware that is causing the problem. I have firmware 7.1f but the teac site says 1.1y is the latest version. I don't know why these variations exist but I wouldn't go changing from 1.1y in a hurry. Give me an email and we will see if the problem is with how you are using cdrwin rather than the firmware version.

Cheers.

Teac-54E version7.1Firmware!

Hi . can someone help me please . I have a Teac-54E cdr with version 7.1 firmware. But I am having trouble burning protected psx cds,as I cant select the "Dont repair sub channel data option". Is there any way around this? Or is my TEAC 54E not compatible? Any advice would be much appreciated.

what are you trying to use cd clone or cd win if its cd win you need ppf-0-matic aswell so you can patch the games if its cd clone its not 100% compatible with your burner if you can't read sub channel data

OK dudes, I know this topic pretty well, as it has caused me frustration for weeks on end. The teac w54e comes in two forms. One is the proper teac version, which will have a firmware version in the 1.1 region. The other is a IBM ruined version with firmware 7.1f. IBM have put their own firmware on the drive, and the firmware sux.
Owners of the proper teac version can download the firmware from the teac site, and the drive will be 100% clonecd compatible. The other poor mongrels, like myself, are stuck with crap firmware that IBM seem unwilling to update. If you are unlucky enough to have firmware revision 7.1f, got to www.ibm.com/support and follow the links to the message forum (aptiva model 2196). Here you will find some messages already posted about the firmware. WRITE NEW MESSAGES TO IBM, on this forum, but be slightly polite as they delete anything they don't like.
If enough people shout, maybe we will be heard.

Cheers, hope this clears a few things up.

Hi thanks for the info on IBM firmware I will certainly be writing to them. Really annoying that we cant upgrade because of their stuffup. Thanks again Kiwi

Have you tried replacing the IBM firmware with the TEAC ?

I admittedly have no experience of these drives, but I have a Creative Labs burner, which I have updated with the firmware for a JVC - net result being that my junk Creative burner suddenly becomes able to make backups of PSX.

Yo, earthworm. I don't know that much about how firmware works, but I have tried to replace the firmware with the TEAC firmware, but it won't run. I was told that the firmware is on a chip, and can consequently only be updated, not totally replaced. Does anyone know if this is true.

Also Kiwi, I tried to email you, but couldn't get thru. Have you written to IBM, if so have you put it in the right place as I can't find it. Email me again, and I will try to get back to you. I kept getting some sort of error when I replied to your last email.
