A very good Question?

I've been looking at some of the post's on the board and notice every one winning about "Patch This" "Image that" and i was just wondering....
Are all of these problems mostly related to downloaded images/games/isos?
I ask this because I have been renting psx games and just copying them with nero and they seem to work fine.
I dont tend to have very good luck with these kind of things and my burner isn't very good soooo... Am i just lucking out (for some very strange reasone) Or are there not really any problems with just doing a cd copy (original to cd-r). Also could someone please say the most common problems (if any) for backing up original psx games? Please answer as many questions as possible. You can also email me at whatdoisay**********com.
Thanx in advacne and have a merry christmas or whatever!

I do the same thing you do for the most part. Why sit and download 600-700 meg image files when you can just rent the games for like $5. Problems occur with newer games though. Developers are including mod-chip detectors in with their games... if you have a mod-chip and you are playing a backup of the game (a copy), the game will halt. "Patches" remove the modchip detectors from these games so you can play them.

You might be "lucking out" in that you bought a "stealth modchip." Stealth modchips cannot be detected by this modchip detectors (eventually, if any developers really care, they might make new software to detect the new modchips, but i doubt this will happen with the ps2 out right now).

Basically, just continue to do what you do, and when you run into problems, come here! :)

Then click burn/copy. wait 20 minutes and i've got me a new game! Here's a common problem.

I'm not sure what this little error is called... but there are games which CAN detect even some brands of Stealth mod chips.

How do I know? I had one installed just the other day. I managed to play Parasite Eve 2's backup copy -- but when I tried to make one of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, I was only able to get to the "This game contains explicit scenes of violence and gore" screen. After that the psx stopped reading and I was looking at a line of Japanese text and a small red circle with a line though it.

I was even told at the repair shop that there were some games that wouldn't work, and my brother's friend said that he had the same problem a few times.

I have a Plug Mod and get the same thing, so far I have seen this protection on Spyro and 989 games. Sounds like luck to me, I have to use a patch to get around this protection. Normally I use CloneCD, but have been known to use CDRWin when I have to apply a patch.

Anzelmaster 28-12-2000 14:42

Well...

I'm trying to use a patch to make Resident Evil 3: Nemesis playable... but now my computer is even against me. PPF-O-Matic is telling me that:

"The bin file does not appear to be the same as the one your file was created with"

And not only that, the creator's readme file says "if you see this error you have a serious problem!"

It's apparantly true that you can copy a protected game using a patch, and now I know what the patch files do and which one I need.. but how on earth can I find one that actually WORKS?

If anyone has managed to download a patch that fixes RE3's protection problems -- could'ya post the address?
