stop me destroying my cd writer

OK. So here is what is killing me slowly. I have an HP m820e, which doesnt 'don't repair Sub Channel Data' and has this config:

Info on CDWriter:
Manufacturer: hp
Product: CD-Writer+ M820
Revision: 1.23

Device Capabilities:
Note: This information is provided by the unit, it might be inaccurate. CloneCD does not use this information!
Can write CD-R Discs: Yes
Can write CD-RW Discs: Yes
Compatible with CloneCD RAW-DAO: No
Compatible with CloneCD RAW-SAO: Yes
Compatible with CloneCD RAW-SAO Write Simulation: Yes
Supports Burn Proof: No

My PSX is chipped.
I have got the impression that backing up my PSX CD's which are protected is gonna be a problem with clonecd because of this. If I patch them as well will this help me - and can I even patch them if I use clonecd? I am trying pretty hard to stick with clone coz I like it's idea, so I would really like to find a way to work it before I try WinCD. Please offer any advice coz I bought this cdwriter and can't take it back so I am feeling pretty gutted.

By the way, this is a really stupid question considering that I know how to apply the patches, but what exactly is a patch and what is it for and what does it do??

Thanks guys,

Sakman

solution

well, as far as i understand it you dont have a choice in the matter of software to backup your cd's, cdrwin creates the image file that the ppf patches alter, and as far as i know they only work with cdrwin images. So as far as enjoying your current program, your going to have to give it up for one that works!!!!!!!!

go to www.geocities.com/tugless

download cdrwin and ppfomatic and follow the instructions i so lovingly did its easy to follow and cdrwin is an excellent program
