IS IT POSSIBLE TO READ GD-ROMS USING A DVD-READER?

hello guys, sorry about my english (Iīm brazilian) and sorry again if I sound too much stupid, but Iīm afraid to say Iīm a totally newbie. Forgive me if it hurts you to read what could be such a boring and idiot question, but I havenīt found, although I have already searched the forum, the answer for this question: is it possible to read gd-roms using a dvd-reader? I donīt have any gd-rom to make a test, but I have seen some tutorials about how to rip games using a cable which connects the dreamcast to the pc, downsampling the files to fit in a 650mgs cd-r, and so... but I donīt own one of this cable (and I donīt think itīs easy - maybe itīs impossible - to find one here in Brazil) so I wanted to know if a commom dvd-reader (not burner, only reader) could do that, since they read dvds (which have a much higher density than gd-roms)... any help would be appreciate... tks in advance.

The only drive you'll ever read the GD-ROM in (unless you own a Sega disc mastering setup like they use at the factory) is your Dreamcast machine. You have to use a cable between your DC and PC to rip the data to your computer, then you have to downsample, hack, crack, patch, rip, etc - and finally burn...

(Whew! I'm getting too old for all this repeating of old information...)

If your MacGuyver, than you can purchase a spare GD-ROM laser and housing and make an IDE or SCSI connector with the proper termination and make a caddy or CD tray with a CD-ROM styled housing and boom you have the first PC GD-ROM. If your not MacGuyver, then this is almost 99.9% impossible.

BTW Sega DID mention bringing Dreamcast technology to PC in one of their last press releases. It's been awhile since they said that and I have yet to see Sega take a single step in fulfilling that promise.
