backups not working with dec 2000 dc system

My backups work with my mar 2000 dc system, but not on the one from dec 2000. I've heard that there are ways to reburn cds so that they work with the decemeber system. Is this true? If so, how? Thanks!

After researching this problem a bit on other forums, I have concluded the following.

November and December 2000 DC's will not play standard backups. I have heard many rumors about this. One being, that the "boot" area on backups are on the first section of the disk. Sega saw the problem, and corrected it. So, I heard you CAN re-vamp the CDI, and make the boot sector at the end of the disk. While, I think it is quite impossible; people have claimed to do it.

My best bet would be to buy a DC that has a manufacturing date of prior to 10/2000. I have a 6/2000 and it works fine.

But again, different parts of the DC were made in different places. For example: in a post I made earlier; My buddy bought the sonic DC package the same time I bought mine. Mine works great, his doesn't work at all (it pulls up the audio option). My other friend who purchased his DC in early spring LAST year (not sure of date), will NOT work at all.. It simply sits there and loads..

I would recommend finding a DC that was manufactured in June 2000.. I found that to be the most reliable in playing backups.

Good luck.

I found some information on burning cds to work on newer systems at ####://go.to/dreamfaq Can someone try it out and post back if this works or not? I am still waiting for my burner to be shipped to me so I cannot try it myself yet. Thanks!

Whoa, thought that was just a rumor, about the newer DCs. I know Sega had plans to release a DC that wouldn't read CD-R(W)s, but the company they contracted to help them do it folded under and by then Sega was already losing out on the DC.

There is an even newer DC out there, called the R7. From the review I read, it's a black US DC with the R7 logo all over it. It's being released in Japan, the reason for this, is supposedly the original DC in Japan never shipped with a modem, so the R7 corrects this. Anyone know if the R7 has the same problem as the Dec. 2000 DC models?
