1 Attachment(s)
i tried to use PROTECTION ID togehter with that game.
but it says that it has no protection: Quote:
which protection it has? |
It is ProtectDisc.
|
ok thx for the information.
can i make a image of my dvd and use it with daemon tools? i dont want to insert dvd everytime, when i start the game. |
You have to try. Of course you need latest DT Pro Advanced and vIDE.
When the game is too new, it won't work anyway. |

GMail is in beta for +4 years and will continue like that.
Who knows if CDKiller & TippeX works also for Google developing GMail :D. |
i was taking the piss.....
protection id is DEAD, ok !?! |
Nope. It will be released (but maybe not in beta stage).
Although Protection ID wont die because protections get updated and new ones appears. |

/me looks at the xmas build that should be released tonight, and the plans for a new years release too (pending feedback / comments on the new version)
@magyar.. dead? .. gee, you'll look quite foolish soon.. next time dont talk about things you dont know anything about... |

i think we all know about it.. 2 years or so ago it went into hibernation. (beta?) it's been in beta since then.... (with one "public" c0ck tease last xmas) added everything but cow's bells (maybe it has them too by now ?) a program that should be updated every few weeks (as protections change and update) takes around 2 years for beta ?? so once it's released updates will be how often ? days/weeks/months/years ?? and will it still be free ?? because if yes then why would the 2 year long "beta" have been closed (well closed to the general public) sorry but i must laugh.... i know its coming i just have to laugh at the situation... maybe you think some people will pay money for such program to tell them what protection their game has ?? (and see how much cpu process it uses?) good luck chuck..... imagine how quickly firefox would be dropped by 99% of users if tomorrow it started charging for new versions ? do you agree ? |
if you dont like it, dont use it, simple as that, never went into hibernation we simply moved to internal beta testers..
"a program that should be updated every few weeks".. name one of the other scanners that does this (excluding the peid style 'database' <i call them false positive> releases which are mostly not from the people who made the program.. "asking people to pay" was never mentioned.. no idea where you made this up from.., pid was free, and will always be free, we stated this many many times... noone is charged for pid, pid makes 0 money, no adverts, no gimmicks, nothing... as for the closed beta, many posts were made about us making a closed beta group, i guess you didn't see them and/or didnt apply... neither of which is our fault, so dry your eyes.. regarding the bells and whistles, i made pid to be a tool i would use myself for various things (hence the task manager, notepad, nfo viewer etc), some users liked it, some didnt, such is life.. i also said a pid lite was planned (probably sometime early new year) that has just the scanning core, log window, queue window for those people who dont feel that they need such things (though you dont see many people whining that windows doesnt needs xyz on microsoft forums do u...).. |
A major software of mine was (public) beta for a decade. So what; do you prefer quantity to quality?
|
actually, @Magyar, if you're truly wanting to beta test then pm me or cdkiller, and we'll see about it, if you're just venting for some unknown reason then please stop
and joe actually states the main reason it went internal beta.. some people tested, some internal betas leaked to the public, for us, we want a public release to be as stable, as tested as possible (which is where the beta testers come in), if we released a new version every 2 weeks like you suggest (which simply isnt possible because cdkiller and i have to live, work, eat, sleep and then work on pid which is a hobby) then there would be too many bug reports, versions to track and generally it gets very messy very quickly... that and, of all the people who applied, only about 10 of them were actually any use. |
Yeah, from my personal experience, people 1) almost never add the actual version number in their reports (so you gotta ask back) and 2) also rarely look at the homepage, to see if there's a version newer than the one they're using, before reporting a problem (so you gotta ask them to try again with the latest release). This is a headache and a waste of time, even with my software that now, unfortunately, gets updated only every few months. In my case, it is alpha releases - rather then beta releases for Protection ID - that are distributed only to a small team of hand-picked, dedicated power users (and often hardware/software developers themselves).

ok let's end the talk here. it can only go nowhere
i have no problem with the program, ok ? my only issue is the time it has taken to become public (and not because i want it) in the last 2 years there was ONE authorized general public release (i don't care about leaks or stolen or such) but why keep a lock on it when you say it is free (which so far it is) if you say because it's unstable, oh dear... isn't such a program by definition almost always in a perpetual beta ? c'mon do you think mum and dad use pid ? it's young men that like to "do sh!t" and have some knowledge of this. also prior to this 2 year lockdown the releases were much more frequent... so, joe, the problem is not the beta name, but that it is a freware/shareware program and yet for 2 years it's not available to public (other then beta testers even if a few hundred) and you don't have to release every minor build tippex but at least a quarterly version to gen public?. you think 4 times a year would have been too much ? and it was also needed... the xmas 07 version is now "almost" usles for new stuff (and by new i mean in some cases protection that's 6 or more months old) ie safedisc 4.9 that some show as "no protection" or almost all tages since that time too... or only show as solidshield but not actual tages.. also why do you confuse the matter of adding extra tools ?? i only say that because you know that doing so will only add more test (beta) time... so then maybe you should have released the lite version before... the more features a program has the more complicated it gets, you agree ? be honest and see the fixes log and how many things in the last 2 years you had to "fix" other then the code related to detecting protection. and even if not some of the features you now have is like a sandra or everest. and you know they alway need updates to recognize the new hardware (cpu, mb chipset etc).. why add such items if that can delay releases for such long periods ? (please let sandra and everest do that, and you specialize in protection detection, what you do best...) you agree nero was once lean and good ? but since years now it's slow and bloated if you install all of it ? nero as a burning app is now like norton products (antivir) to many people, you know slow and bloated crapware. (because i like pid, and others, i don't want to loose you) i think i made my point pretty clear.. i like pid (except all the "tools" added on, but that my opinion) i have no problem with you or anyone just the way the pid was "closed" (and it's NOT because i want it always, it's the principal. do you get that ? or just not believe me about it ? so yes please pm me a link... but you said there is on coming today or such ? so maybe i get that one...) my tip: you know what sort of people use this tool so don't worry about "bugs" hurting systems - just release a public version every 2/3 months!!! and yes like joe, i'm hungarian.... (does that matter ? no. just thought i'd mention it) edit: so i think of something else. i think your knowledge about this subject is highly advanced. you know your stuff no doubt and i think maybe when somebody "criticize" something-anything you take it as attack on you or such ? not true. i admit you are field genius, ok ? |
WTF!
Yeah perhaps you will release a credit card generator every 3 months, what you cant? for many reasons? OH I am now so angry that I have to wait a year or more for an update..... Anyway back to planet reality, the word tough comes to mind, if they want to take their time and release once per year then so be it, they are the authors and you are the user. Its not costing you so there is no point crying about not getting it when you want. There is criticising and then there is Your version of criticising, you blatantly attacked the authors in previous posts and your last, again it us up to them and not up to you, don't like the wait? tough? The universe doesn't revolve around your head. |
I think this latest post had an acceptable style and raised a few good points, too. Any user would prefer more frequent updates of his or her favorite software, that's quite understandable. But, on the other side, so is lack of time for faster development. ;)
|
more releases are planned (they were even before magyar's post), the problem is time (or lack of) to develop, test (properly)..
add to this that we aim to make pid work on ALL windows versions from 9x upwards, which involves a lot of vmware testing, coding workarounds and so on, in the background the file access methods were also heavily modified to make it faster, along with the scanning core.. there's also more stuff, which i added in from side projects / testing work for other things and so on, all those need tested.. that, and protection really doesnt change every 2 weeks (no idea where that timeline was guessed from), we've only had to update a minimal amount (<10) of protections to update, where most of the detections didn't change over this time... |

i think there is no one, who uses win 95. you should only make it for XP/Vista. the most new games support only xp and vista. if someone want to use on old windows, they could use the old one. PS: Do you need the executables of Cobra 11 - Burning Wheels? ive got big internet problems, now i can upload it. |
hmm try scanning the exe's with the new release i posted about :), use the update feature in protection id, or hit the homepage pid.gamecopyworld.com and download the new version :)
believe it or not there are still some people who use win98 (se) and protection id, people with old machines they use as lan file servers for example :), some features of protection id (cd/dvd sector scan for example) are only for windows 2000 upwards (due to various crap with 9x for cd/dvd sector access.. aspi mightnt be loaded/installed and so on, and things like that.. it might come in later.. its not top of the 'todo' list though) if the exe's are not detected in protection id (new ver.. 6.1.3) then please send me a pm with a link of where to get the files (exe+dlls in the installation folder is what i usually need), though cdkiller said this version of protectdisc is now detected, so fingers crossed :) |
Windows 9x support is a major sign of coolness!
