Seeking Help to find a Free, Simple ROTWK 2.01 Trainer
I own Lord of the Rings, Battle for Middle Earth II - Rise of the Witch King and usually run the unpatched version of it.
However, there is a MOD that I have been interested in trying, and it requires version 2.01 of ROTWK to be installed. I would like some time to really give this MOD a detailed look, so would really like to be able to get a simple +1 trainer (unlimited funds) so that I can build a defensible fortress for my Men of the West, and spend time exploring the new factions, their structures, etc. without having to wait 30 minutes to build up enough resources so that I can do just that. It seems that I can only find a single v2.01 trainer. It's a big megatrainer that uses the Function keys and costs about $25 to get a copy through Cheat Happens, as you must buy a membership in order to get one. Well, first, I don't like to get trainers that pre-empt the default functions assigned to F1, F2, F3, etc. Second, I really do not want anything more than a simple +1 trainer. I currently use a +3 trainer, apparently from someone called Xblade, and it works fine. It seems done in Spanish and the text in white reads like this: El Resurgir Del Rey Brujo It uses the Alt-Numeric 1, 2 and 3 (numlock active, 10 key area on the far right of most 101/104 key keyboards) so do not interfere with default key mapping. I just press ALT-1 and that is the only cheat I use. Sadly, I cannot seem to find such a trainer for version 2.01 of ROTWK. So, I would like to ask if anyone here would be so kind as to help me out with this problem. Perhaps you are aware of a trainer that I am not able to find, or perhaps someone with the skills could make a simple +1 trainer for v2.01 of ROTWK? I'd be grateful for any help you may be able to provide. If you find email an easier way to conduct discussions, I'd be happy to receive helpful emails at my Hotmail account, which is dudeboyz at that [hotmail] dot com account. Thank you in advance for any help. |
usually the cheat happens ones are released to the public for free after a period of time...

I'd be grateful if it was available for free, but in a perfect world, I would still prefer something that does not take over control of already assigned keys. I use the CTRL-F1, then F1 type of functions in ROTWK often, so would not like to lose that ability. I think I remembered that someone here did create a +1 Trainer for another app. For some reason I can't seem to find it in the search. But then again, my brain is all foggy due to allergy medicine right now. :) If I could just find a simple +1 Trainer for v2.01, I'd be very, very content. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. I do hope someone will be able / willing to look into creating a simple one for ROTWK. I just need to be patient. :) |
well, if its just funds stuff, you might be able to do it yourself using something like art money etc.. if you're lucky you could freeze / adjust the value, could be worth a shot

Thank you for the reply. I'll see if I can figure out what Art Money is and how to use it. In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping that SOMEBODY will take pity on me and help me out with a real trainer. :) |
Ok - This Art Money thing - I have found the address via the filter and can change the value and it updates resources.
My question now is - what do I do with it? Is there a way to save it to an EXE that can be activated? Or do I have to start Art Money and load the saved values each time I want to play? Thank you. |
well if the location is constant you can adjust one of the trainer skeletons posted in the trainer section i think.. if it's not constant then you're probably best off using art money...
either way, you should now be able to do the infinite resources, which is what you wanted |
So if I stick just with ArtMoney, I will have to load that application each and every time I want to play the game to take advantage of the unlimited resources cheat, correct?
|
Separate question - could you explain what Trainer Skeletons are and then where to find / how to use them please?
I would appreciate it. |

UPDATE: Well, I did the hardcore Google searchin' and found Trainer Maker Kit 1.51 and have been successful in creating a +1 Trainer for the original ROTWK unpatched.
Next step is to backup ROTWK, patch it to 2.01 and see if I can repeat the process. Thanks much for the help. Gave me just enough info to get me started, and I've learned just enough to be dangerous. :) Original Post - Before I sucked it up and got it done... Hey, if I provided the address and the value, do you think you may be willing to put it into an EXE file that I can run? The address seems consistent - I've quit and loaded the game 3 times and it works each time. I just don't know how to take those values and turn them into an executable, and I was hoping that since you do know how to do that, you might be willing to do it for me? |
I just used the online form to upload the trainer to GCW. I hope it worked out ok. If it doesn't show up in the next day or two, I'll ask 'em what up.
The .RAR archive contains both a readme.txt file and a Trainer.exe file. The trainer is a simple +1 resource maximizer designed to work with the US version of ROTWK v2.01. It can be activated via the F12 key while inside the game, or you can Alt-Tab out and click the button and then pop back into the game. Any questions, please let me know. Thanks much for all the info and assistance. UPDATE: Wow. They put it up pretty darn fast. It's available under the ROTWK section of the main GameCopyWorld site. If anyone would like to test it out for me and provide some feedback or report any errors, I'd appreciate it. Happy Gaming to all, and to all a good night... :) |
I did have another question, and instead of starting a new thread, thought I'd just ask it here.
My question: Is it a good idea to make one trainer that can work for two versions of the same game? ROTWK, for instance, has the unpatched version 1.00 and the patched version 2.01. Each one has a unique address where the Resources data is contained. I was thinking "Would it be possible to put both addresses into the same trainer so that when they click the button or press F12, both address values will be filled with the data, and regardless of version, the resources value will be increased?" Then I thought, "Wait - what might the downsides be? Could it make one or the other version unstable?" So I wanted to ask the question from someone who might know. I'd appreciate a helpful reply or two. Thanks. |
if you make a detection method for the game, sure... checking version information in the exe (if present in the resources) could help, or a specific tag in memory of the version etc...
you could of course have the user choose the version from a list / whatever.. the design/method/choice is up to the trainer maker when coding it... |

Probably best not to take chances. I've gone ahead and written a +1 for both the 1.00 and 2.01 versions, kinda spruced 'em up a bit, changed the default icon to one extracted from the game, tried to make spacing between objects on the 320x240 dialog more uniform, etc. It's been kind of fun learning how to do it. Thanks again for the tips. http://www.pdscomputing.com/files/rotwk-01.png http://www.pdscomputing.com/files/rotwk-02.png |
Succeeding with something is ALWAYS great pleasure! :)

I was wondering - and perhaps someone can help me here - do the folks that run, edit, make additions to the main GCW site also spend time reading and posting here in the forums? I've a question for them that I would like to have answered, but thought it might also be good to discuss it here so others can read about the question and whatever answer it receives. Basically, I was wondering about bundling a specific NO CD patch with a specific Trainer and submitting it as a single download. I was thinking of doing this because I could then state clearly that I have tested the Trainer with both the non-patched, original executable, as well as with the specific NO CD included in the bundle and found that it has been tested and seems fully functional with both. I would like to ask for opinions on that, as well as asking for a reply about the GCW site runners, so I will know whether or not to contact them via the GCW site. Thanks |
patching no-cd into a trainer as an option has been done before, if the patch is to remove a normal cd/dvd check then i'd say go for it.. however.. if the patch is a workaround for a specific protection (starforce, safedisc, securom etc..) then i'd say no-no as it'd make it a loader and could have problems in the long run...
the best advice i can give is when making a trainer, and adding options into it, make sure those options are as safe as possible (eg: checking original bytes before you patch them, to make sure they match the ones you worked from.. and so on).. taking care and making the trainer easy to use are 2 main priorities you should have, the gfx/eye candy should come last... just my 2c though.. |

I'd put in the README file something like the following: "This +1 trainer for Rise of the Witch King has been tested with the original files included in the Official 2.01 patch provided by EA as well as the NO CD for that same 2.01 version that is included in this archive." I do prefer to keep the Trainer application itself simple and stand alone, for compatibility, stability and efficiency reasons. But I thought simply including the actual NO CD that I tested with would spare the user having to head over to GCW and grab a copy for themselves. It's for the sake of convenience, I suppose. What think? I did a bit of tweaking with the 2.01 trainer and now also the new 1.00 trainer I made. I think things look more evenly spaced and I wanted to add an "Update" number to the title bar to aid users in recognizing the version of the trainer itself to avoid confusion with the game version. I hope they look clean and simple while not appearing bland or boring. Anyway - thanks again. http://www.pdscomputing.com/files/rotwk-01.png http://www.pdscomputing.com/files/rotwk-02.png |
maybe for the 'update 1' part put in the version number? 2.01 etc... makes more sense that way, as 'update 1' might not make sense to some people
and maybe put a version number of the trainer in the bottom right corner etc... puting the no-cd in the archive might be overkill, 2 seperate files is probably best - some people who want the trainer may not want to download the no-cd for example.. |
Cool. Thanks.
What if I changed it from Update 1 to something like one of these: Release 1 Release 1.0 Release 1a Would that make more sense? |
He means have the version of the game instead of update 1

Well, the version of the game is right there in the yellow text on the spiffy little ROTWK graphic background. You can see the pics right there in the post above, right? I think I liked Release 1 best, so I went with that and updated the screen shots. I think I'm all done tweakin' now. For today at least. :) Thanks |
