Crysis....lockup PROBLEMS!!
when i had installed a 512 MB 7950 GT - crysis ran great at 1280 x 1024. now i am upgraded to 768 MB 8800 GTX and running at same resolution and it looks great but always crashes/locks up at the beginning between the freefall and when you land (i have checked all updated drivers and reinstalled/uninstalled several times with and without the patch). anyone have any ideas...??
|
BTW ----> all my other games run just fine with everything turned on...ie. oblivion, orangebox, nwn 2, bioshock, unreal tour 3, etc....

Wrong forum, Moved!

If you really have the very latest ForceWare drivers then, perhaps, try the previous drivers, WHQL and non-WHQL, too. Also, try a lower resolution and try lowering the detail settings, just for a test. (Perhaps, it is an enabled graphic detail feature that makes the game crash.)
|
Its just unfortunate for the OP (original poster) that he has a problem, PC games are hard to predict compatibility even when your system is kick ass. So many combinations and the likes make it hard to spot any problems, but thats when end users are helpful, they let the developers know what they have in their systems and the problem faced, and they go ahead and find the fix for it for the next patch.
But I have heard that Crysis hates certain SATA raid drivers and when it tries to access a Sata HD too quickly beyond its means, obviously the system cant cope and will crash the game. It is another avenue to consider if you have a SATA or SATA II HD. |
My suggestion was based on that the original poster wrote that only by swapping the video card the game stopped working properly. (At least, that's how I understood it.)
|
Yeah. He did say that.
But it was on the off chance he may have upgraded all the drivers, including Raid drivers. Its another avenue to look at, and a problem I have heard some Crysis players suffered. So worth mentioning incase. |
no - i only upgraded nvidia driver as my other drivers were already upgraded and even tried at lower resolutions and it still locks in the same spot. And since i tried with and without patch i am wondering if its a glitch with the new nvidia driver....:( so right now i am in the process of trying the previous driver - i will post results later....

lol!! upgrading is so complicated...grrrrrr.... |
Well, then wait for the next driver version that will, perhaps, contain fixes for all your games.

Does this post help?

Crysis has a state-of-the-art engine, using the CPU and the GPU to the very max, feature- and speed-wise. Don't try to find reasons against trying a possible solution...

as a sidenote as i stated earlier - crysis runs awesome at about 100 fps or more at 1280 x 1024 (seems like compared to my other games) with nothing turned on - then it crashes between the dive at the beginning and landing in the water....(i actually made it 1 time onto land running at an ungodly pace before it went uuuummmm....sorry....not today.....:( ...again i am running core 2 quad, 768 MB 8800 GTX, 3 GB 667 RAM, and Windows XP SP2...and all my games run super with everything turned on - and crysis actually ran great when i had the 512 MB 7950 GT |
Have you even tried a reinstall of Crysis, I think the uninstaller has a repair option.
As it could be Crysis's packed data file is somehow corrupt. Does it always crash at the very same point? As in very same instance, and position in the air etc. If so it could be a problem with the game. ALSO... Did you uninstall the old Nvidia drivers for your old card first before installing the new card, as this can cause problems also. Uninstall your current drivers for your GPU, restart, and reinstall latest drivers to make sure its all fresh. Hopefully that may help. |

yes to all.....and it freezes between dive from ship to where the parachute doesnt open and you hit the water.... |
Does this happen with both the Retail v1.0 EXE and also when the v1.1 patch has been applied?
|
Probably, yes: the original posts says "[...] i have checked [...] with and without the patch [...]".
|
...and both cracks?

Sorry i have been busy --> but it has got to be the nvidia drivers - later i will try both 169.28 beta and/or 163.75 previous and see if this helps....and post results later....
|
lol....!! it is the 169.21 drivers....i installed the previous 163.75 drivers and now everything works fine - hopefully nvidia works out the kinks on their new beta drivers for 169.28
|
Well beta drivers are well beta.

Perhaps you should read what you said in your previous statement, and then read what I said. At no time did I say 169.21 or 163.75 were beta. I am commenting on the fact that you think beta drivers instantly turn into next set drivers, which isnt true. Yes they are run on various machines by end-users. But any kinks they may find may not find themselves fixed into several WHQL releases later. |

...as far as being knowledgable (why are you attacking me i wasn't attacking you) - but if you must know i have 2 degrees in computer programming and computer engineering, a networking certification, and my A+ certification - and currently i am a network tech for a school district. How about you...?? |
Gentlemen, please...
|
either way - i solved my problem...for some reason the 169.21 WHQL drivers are causing problems between the 768 MB 8800 GTX video card and Crysis...and when i uninstalled said drivers and installed the 163.75 WHQL drivers...now crysis is running great again....:)
thank you to everyone who provided input on this topic.... |
starting a pissing contest over the internet is stupid, and playing that game usually results in someone coming along with even more qualifications and shutting you up... How about you..?
nice to hear that you got crysis working though, but you could have done without the drama.. |

then, either way..,, drop it
and he was right when talking about the drivers... some beta drivers do sometimes filter through to become 'final' whql'ed drivers... and what was the whole issue? him saying the drivers were possibly beta at one stage... are you working for microsoft (in a school as a techie i doubt it)... you over reacted.. |
