If you read the topic, DABhand, this is about the problem "Files are missing or damaged in the installation directory".

Anyone know the solution?

DABhand 10-07-2007 18:18

Ahhhh, he did indeed.

Time to clean out your registry.

Some free registry cleaners out there.

But my guess it will be under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT GAMES>HALO 2

or something like that. Just delete everything halo 2 basically :P

DrmrES 10-07-2007 23:08

Wrong again unfortunately :)
I've sussed it. Delete all entries relating to Halo 2 in your Documents and Settings subfolders.

Hope this helps some people.

This is called a "trigger". And what happens if you do insert your original DVD?

Granted it could be viewed this way but Dab did say:

..........and from what I have previously seen his guess's are usually fairly good or very close to the mark.

So, he was off the mark this time, oh well no harm done, at least he tried to offer some 'logical' help. ;)

DABhand 11-07-2007 20:29

Tis ok buddy, the spanish tend to be noisy when they want to :P

The only 'guess' I see there is about which registry key, the advice appears to come knowledgeably. Still no harm done. Also, I'm not Spanish! :)

Halo under XP Game can not load Level "Gravemind"

Hi ,
the crack worked fine and I have played the game until Level 10 "Gravemind". This level can not be loaded. Everytime the message appears asking me to insert the original Halo 2 disk. I have the disk but caused by the problem that this game is used under XP the game does not check the DVD.

I have seen that this problem was mentioned more than once but without solution.

Is there someone who fixed this problem? I really would appreciate it.

Halo 2: Fix to enable gravemine under XP without DVD

This works definitely, I have got it from a other forum:
Why does Halo 2 ask me to insert the disk on the Gravemind level or any other level?

While I don't know exactly why it happens, there are two instances when it can occur.

If you didn't do the "Custom Game Install" option and then the "Full Install, Do not Start" option on set-up, and chose the "Play" option instead, you may have created temporary map files, rather then the full map files. Causing Halo 2 to ask for the disk on all levels.

Or you might have done everything right, but the game still asks for the disk on the Gravemind level.
1) Download and install Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...ssmonitor.mspx)

2) Use WinRAR to extract the files

3) Play Halo 2 until you get to the Gravemind level, as the level tries to load you will get the message "Sorry, insert you original Halo 2 disk"
(inserting either the original or any other disk does nothing since the drive is never accessed).

4) Close and restart the game and let it get to the main menu screen.

5) Hit the windows key on the keyboard to minimize the game.

6) Open process monitor, let it run and monitor processes (the list wil fill rapidly).

7) Click on the Halo 2 icon in the taskbar to re-maximize the game.

8 ) Click on "Campaign" --> Select Level --> Gravemind and select your difficulty

9) Let it load (It will take a while because process monitor is slowing it down). Don't worry about missing the intro Video, once the level loads, it can be restarted from within the level.

10) Once it loads and starts, (wait for the intro to finish) minimize with the windows key again and close the Process monitor.

11) Re-maximize the level, hit the escape key and select restart the level (if you want to see the intro again).

Note: The level can be reloaded from checkpoints as long as you are within the level, if you quit the level for any reason, you will have to run the Process Monitor again while the level loads.
You can load a saved checkpoint in this manner, so you don't have to complete the level at one sitting.

Try cleaning up Windows Installer's mess with Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and then installing/uninstalling/reinstalling the game again.

sorry, but WHAT will i delete with this program?

Joe Forster/STA 08-12-2007 12:10

Read the documentation, of course. I don't know, I use other software to maintain the registry or delete registry entries manually.

Davy8 08-12-2007 12:13

i've readed. this program will uninstall programs, but what program will i uninstall?

Joe Forster/STA 08-12-2007 12:51

It cleans up Windows Installer's mess. From the list of programs to uninstall, it is obviously Halo 2 that you need to select.

Davy8 09-12-2007 03:28

sorry joe, maybe i am not precise, i HAVEN'T INSTALLED Halo 2 on my pc, i am trying to INSTALL it, not uninstall...

Joe Forster/STA 09-12-2007 04:51

And you never even installed it before? Then I think you should ask the publisher/developer about it. Perhaps, try to (re)install the latest Windows Installer 3.1 v2 before you do.

athos1005 20-10-2008 16:59

thanks a lot for the tip... i could start the 10th level...
