Quartex... The name exists for ages now ;-D
But dunno if itīs still the old scene group or some youngsters using the well known name ;)

Hm, heard MAELSTROM sucks... Would like to here some opinions... Is it worth to give it a shot?

Grx.

wolfsrain 23-02-2007 00:09

Well, they were almost as old as Razor1911, if I remember corectly. They were the groups of thr late eighties and early nineties. Most of the old groups are extinct now. Deviance, Fairlight, Souldrinker, Myth, just to name a few. From time to time some people are trying to revive them(former members, young bloods). The question is if they can liveup to the name.

DABhand 23-02-2007 12:09

Last time someone tried to revive the Myth name, and posing to be FOSI, didnt last very long lol

I remember going on their IRC server and asking simple ASM questions, not a clue. Ahh so much fun those days.

well the crack works, but i uninstalled it right away because the game is just garbage when i first got it, horrible athmosphere, doesnt feel stable, horrible AI, horrible interface, chugs on my computer at 800x600 with no shadow or AA and i can run company of heroes at almost full graphics smoothly so that is just crap, the 3rd person direct control system for the heroes is extremely jerky and feels useless, do not buy.

So can you say that you own a GeForce7600 at least or an ATI 1650? That you have at least 1gb RAM? There are different requirements for COH and Maelstrom. The game it ain't optimized for the older cards as advertised, I know that already. It shines on a high end rig, though. It does have some issues and the first campaign it's quite boring and cuts your appetite for the game. You would feel compelled to abandon it, but if you manage to get past the Remnant campaign you will be very much rewarded for the time spent on that one. The other two campaigns are actually quite good. But again you have to get past that first campaign. And expect more games that will have high requirements. If you can play smoothly Gothic3, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Supreme Commander, Warfront, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, than you can judge the game at his true value. But don't expect a low end rig to do what a high end rig does.

A7xtitan 24-02-2007 09:03

i have a amd athlon 3800 x2 dual core, a radeon x1600 pro and 2gb of ram, my pc i feel is a little on the high end, not uber but still great, but maelstrom runs crappy, game is not optimized period.

EDIT: i do have Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Warfront, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and the Supreme Commander Demo and they all run great

Joe Forster/STA 24-02-2007 10:25

(Nothing new, e.g. Boiling Point is also an unoptimized piece of junk...)

Sgat8516 01-03-2007 03:11

Well, apparently, Quartex has the same Bob_Geldaf there.
The 'cracked exe', causes the game to crash, and reboot the system...
It does it on the opening menu, if left open for more than about 5 seconds, and it also does it at random intervals during the game... This does not occur with the original disc, remove?

Sgat8516 01-03-2007 03:14

And yea, the game is total garbage... I tried to grind my teeth through it, without success... Gave up on the frustrating AI control....
Command a large squad while moving, click on an enemy, all of squad stops, and waits for enemy to walk into range, while they are slaughtering the guys closest to them.... :p (kinda the way you kill enemies... no intelligent combat AI present at all.... lol)

wolfsrain 01-03-2007 23:22

Actually the game is the same style as Supreme Commander: classic RTS. You build tons of units, no strategy required, no skill required. You can make a rush or you can overwhelm the enemy with your units. I'd say it's insulting after the Warhammer40k: Dark Crusade and Company of Heroes to see games like this released(they are just eye candies). After playing more missions, I must reckon I have to agree with the other posters here. Maelstrom has a vrey idiotic first campaign. The next two campaigns are okay, but they don't compensate the overall game. The story it's wasted, though it's pretty good. Same goes for Supreme Commander. Beautiful graphics, good story, but where is the RTS??
