hi i would like to know what protecion does COH have and is there a way so i don't have to use the cd/dvd thank you

Well, that's an interesting question, I heard the US release is tomorrow, rest of the world late september, so ATM nobody should be able to tell you...

From what I've heard (and seen from releases) the game is actually unprotected so far. Haven't heard of any protection.

Its unprotected, but I dunno about CD check. Prolly none of that too :)

actually the game was released on 9-12 in the US. I have scanned it with ProtectionID but it just tells me that there is a possible cd check. Trying to get Alcohol to clone the disk

Currently I can not find a protection for Company of Heroes other than the included cd key that it comes with. This definitely suprises my.

Anyone that has it (I'm still waiting for euro release) should try to install it, remove cd and try to play... :)

i just got the game and i am kind of in shock cuase u can play it without the dvd and i guess it does not have any protection which is very wird and kind a cool i have no idea if its a bug in the dvd or what is going on but i hope all the games from now on could be like this just install take out the dvd and play thats great

I can verify the above.just bought the game,install it and plays without the dvd on!Great Relic!It's incredible for such a hyped game that even exceeds expectations.CoH already has an average of 96% critic reviews over the net..

cd not needed once installed, also can be patched and played without cd, no checks except serial key

WOW!!! This is a tough one to believe! A BIG game like this comes out WITHOUT all that fancy/crappy copy-protection!

I bought this game last week and have been playing it with the DVD in the drive, checking back every day on GCW for the No-CD or No-DVD patch and wondering when it would be released. After just reading the posts here I pulled the DVD and placed it back in its case, and fired up the game. It WORKED!!!

Congrats Relic for doing something your customers WANT!!! I know that I for one will be seeking out OTHER titles from you before anything else if this trend continues! Who knows?... Maybe some of the OTHER big companies will take note of this and follow suit!

I have long said that anyone who is going to pirate a copy of a game will NOT be stopped by copy protection (especially the EXTREME copy protections employed by a lot of companies) and that the only people REALLY being hurt are the HONEST gamers. FINALLY we have someone looking out for the honest gamer!

Just a side note to everyone out there! Be EXCEPTIONALLY vigilant on this one, and REPORT anyone you know to be pirating this game!!! I certainly will!!! :cool:

You will find the CD Key in either one of three places:

1) On the Back of the original CD/DVD Case!
2) On the Back of the game manual!
3) On the inside cover of the game manual!

Ive never known it to be anywhere else! Do NOT ask about CD Keys here!

I did too. I couldn't believe it and thought that it had to be a mistake, so I called one of the salesmen over to check it, then snatched it up.

Hey, he could have been using a completely legitemate download method such as Direct2Drive.
Way to jump to conclusions.

This was a year ago, not that amazing to make your first post about an old poster.

There was no D2D for CoH at that time.

I just installed the very latest patch for this game and, lo and behold, you now have to insert your DVD when you want to play. It's obviously because of the new add-on, but why make it a retrograde copy protection back to the original. Took me a dogs age to find the DVD :).

same issue here, and since I lost my original Key and my DVD I am messed up... :p
could pass the CD-Check since it seems you have to be online and connect to relic servers to validate your account >_<
Oh well at least the achieved to make me buy the game. Ordered it few mins ago for 15€

Why do they have a DVD fix over on GCW for V2.102 patch if it will play with out the dvd installed....CHEERS

because... after the release of Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts, Relic (the developer) decide to upgrade the original Company of Heroes to allow their owners to play on-line with those having the newest one.
So, there's a patch for Company of Heroes (1.71 to 2.101) to match Opposing Front version and this patch comes with Securom and CD Check.
That's the reason behind the crack on GCW.

The game is not boring, you may not have the same time and patience to play this updated CoH as you may have it when it was release.
Don't forget the games are made for updated machines with new cores and new graphic cards engines which gives you new graphical experiences and can lead you to fully enjoy the game.
That's why today I update my PC often, when CoH was released I own a Athlon 800 now with the release of OF I own Athlon 64 3500+ (big difference) and I will update my PC next month to enjoy Pro Street and other new games.
If you have a minimum requirement machine is normal you feel frustrated with the game being slow and complain about it in the forums. Update often and you'll play better.

CoH:OF is cool, just need 10 more patch to behave just like the original COH :P

i install the 2.201 update and i aply the crack .. but the game needs the original dvd to validate ... when i put the dvd all ok...

so the crack is bad .... (the 2.101 work with the no cd from flt)

Have you applied both halves of the crack? There are two packages to download.

Same here! After installing v2.201 I replaced the original .exe (Achiv: 3.2 mb) and the original rs.dll (RS.DLL v2.101 - FairLight).

After the intro you get two options: continue or back to windows. While continue should validate the media and bring you to the main menu it gives an error and asks where you get coh from. There are three options. Retailstore, steam and d2d. For the first option you must insert dvd / second and third option will establish a i-connection.

No clue. I dont want to use my dvd.... in / out / in / out.....

Suggestions?

for me the crack works, just hit continue when it asks for cd.

As I said, after clicking continue, the media validation fails and i have to choose where I got coh from.

Do you have coh or opf?

I tried everything. Even if I delete the rs folder and start the game...same behavior. That makes no sense for me?

Dumb question (I guess):

I was going to order CoH as my new GFX card will have Opposing Fronts shipped so I thought why play an addon (even if it's standalone) and not the main game :?
Always wanted to play it anyway, just not with my crappy 9800 :)

Anyway...I found patches for both the main game and the addon that patch them to version 2.101 (1.7 GB wtf). Then there seem to be patches that work for both versions ?
How does that work, is it really standalone ? The cracks on GCW are identical, too ??

yes, files should be the same after patching coh and coh:of to the latest version.

The different campaigns are protected by the different serials.

Meh, just wanted to confirm the crack is still asking for a dvd...
I applied the patch but didnt notice I still had the DVD inside, so it worked at first...
The next day, I started it without any DVD inside the drive and it kept asking me where I got my copy from, not allowing me to get past that dialog.
The game used to ask for the DVD all the time even with a disk inside, but at least it continued behaving as normal, without a DVD it just doesnt work at all.

So either it is a Backup-CD (or whatever the exact terminology is) or plainly a bad crack... :(

Well Muji, if you're really desperate to try out CoH without the DVD you can get the CoH OF Beta (see relic website for details). For CD keys type in all 0's and then it will let you play fine online. :)

I just bought my new COH dx10 game this March 2008, its always asking me to put the dvd on the optical drive every time I play it. I tried all the cracks but nothing is successful not to ask for the drive. I tried to patch it just to know what the version of it, but nothing works. It just say that I have the latest version. If I'm going to hit the continue when I am ask to put the DVD, it keeps on coming back. Unlike my old COH, I don't have a problem with it. I have the COH game of the year DVD, it sucks. I don't want to use my disc everytime I play this game. :(:(:(

Is it possible that this happens because of Vista, I just build my new computer and I am now on Vista Ultimate 32. I don't have a problem with the performance since I got the new hardwares. Its just that I don't want to use my orig disc everytime I play.:(
