C&C First Decade DVD backup

Anyone got any ideas how I can split the dual layer dvd of Command & Conquer so I may back it up to 2 single layer dvds?

BarryB 23-02-2006 06:42

I think it can!

I used ReWritable DVD's to test though, and this was doing a COMPLETE 9.8GB install

1. Copy everything except the DATA8.CAB to DATA14.CAB files to one DVD. You don't need a volume label for either DVD.

2. Copy the DATA8.CAB to DATA14.CAB files, launcher.dat and the 'support' folder to the second DVD.

3. Install from the first DVD and when asked 'Please insert disk 7 that contains the file data8.cab' insert the second DVD and continue installing :)

Better still, you can copy it to 13 CD's if you want :D

You are a bloody legend barry. cheers. works great.

BarryB 10-03-2006 08:07

Wow! A legend in my own lifetime, lol!!

Nice to know it works for you too ;)

Aldarion666 19-03-2006 13:47

So, its 100% confirmed that the game will work backed up this way??

Also, will I able to install just 1 game, or I need to install the whole package??

Thanks! :)

Aldarion666 20-03-2006 06:50

Also, (sorry for the double post) can I put a folder with all the nocd fixes on one of the dvds??

Grumpy 20-03-2006 07:21

Yes.
Providing it will fit of course! I dont have the games myself so I dont know how big it all is but I really doubt it would be to big to fit another folder containing the cracks etc.
It works for all the CD2DVD conversion I do. ;)

rlsuth 20-03-2006 07:48

Why did they produce a dual-layer version when the entire thing already came out on a single layer DVD?

Aldarion666 20-03-2006 10:04

@Grumpy, thanks, your conversion are awesome!

As far as I know, there's only 1 version, a double-layer one...

So, do I get the "CONFIRMED" working on this conversion?
Ive no Rewritable discs, and Ive just FEW DVD left....long time before I will have the time to buy new ones...

And meanwhile Im forced to use my precious original disk, which insted should be happily sitting on my library, so that one day I will be able to tell to my sons, "HA your games sucks...these were good games!"

BarryB 20-03-2006 13:59

Yes, it will install any game you select and ask for the 2nd disc if it needs to.

There is also plenty of space to put the NoCD cracks too, and you may also want to put on the newly released 1.1 patch that fixed missing movies from Covert Operations, Red Alert, and the Red Alert Expansion packs:

You don't need any new cracks for the 1.1 patch either as it only modifies the games data files!

I have the DVD version and I assure you that the version I have has all the content on one side of one DVD. I guess the foreign version must have used dual-layer DVD's for some reason.

ehm, you know that a dual layer DVD actually IS an one sided DVD?
one side, two layers.
just check how much data is on the disc.. if it's more than 4,36 GiB, it's a dual layer DVD.

Thansk for the info!!;)

Muyfa666 21-03-2006 06:46

Barry, this works perfect. With the cracks & the update. Excellent info man!

Muyfa666 22-03-2006 03:10

I just have a question about all these cracks. I run Px777DOX's cracks + the one for Yuri's Revenge from the old archive. All seem to work fine, but my question is, how does a non-working crack show in these games? Burning houses are some stuff I heard, but could anyone go into more detail?

Aldarion666 22-03-2006 09:37

I think that if the crack is wrong it will simply ask you for the original dvd...

BTW, When I will have the game, do I need to install some kind of "package" or can straight install the games that interest me??

Muyfa666 22-03-2006 11:29

You can chose to install only the games u want to play. Excellent collection if you ask me. All games seem to work fine here. :-)

Aldarion666 22-03-2006 13:07

A friend of mine told me that you HAVE to install Generals and RA" (two games that I dislike)...is this true??

All I want is to play C&C 1 in glorious 640x480 resolution!!!

Muyfa666 22-03-2006 13:14

Not true. On my first test run, I only installed C&C original and RA1.

No, you have to install these games, if you want to install their addons.
If you disable the installation of the generals addon and RA2 addon, you will be able to disable these 2 main games.

P.S @all: I think this is also a right place for the info:

If you use the DEViANCE cracks, you won't see the intros of C&C3!
Use the other cracks.

Greets

Joe Forster/STA 29-05-2006 04:22

Haha, I'm truly relieved when - during the few times when I do have some time for playing - I don't have to watch the intros again and again... ;)

Zippo Montefiore 12-07-2006 07:23

I've got one question: are dvd1 and dvd2 to be recorded as a game image or as data dvds?

Grumpy 12-07-2006 07:42

@Zippo Montefiore
Burn them as 'Data' discs. ;)

Zippo Montefiore 13-07-2006 03:52

Thanks for the reply, Grumpy. :)

But I'm just thinkin' about this: those datacab inside the dvd are probably the games, right? So, if you know which game is which datacab, you might be able to shrink the size of the dvd. I say this because I have Generals and Zero Hour, and they have 2cds each.
