Earth 2160 -- Is it possible to convert into English?

One of my friend bought this game for me from T-Online. At first, i think that i can manage the game in german with no problem, but when i get into game, i realised that i won't enjoy until i get this game in english.

I know there will be problems for sounds, so they can stay German, but at least texts should be english.

Is it possible and if it is, how?

(problems for sounds: any kind of piracy, i don't want to do illegal things. but in the other hand, if i have a licence to run the copy, there shouldn't be any language specific limitation, am i wrong at that?)

it is illegal because you are modify the game content.

I dont think so! Its more like a patch. There are many language changer for different games on fan sites and official sites (you get a english to german converter for galactiv civ at the homepage). And do not forget: There ist also a patch for AOE 3 at GCW! And if you think, every changing from game files is illegal, you have also no right to use a no CD Crack!

To the main post. You should look at fansites for such mods.

And as we know, using NOCDs isn't allowed in Germany. ;)

I don't think so. If there is no english version of a game, fans often create translation mods. And that's okay. But concerning Earth 2160, there is an english version available. The real problem is taking original content from the english version for use in a mod. And that's where you offend copyright laws.

Sounds hard but I really do not care about that. I have more than 150 games, all purchased, and I think, I have the right to use them for playing. And nobody has the right to tell me how or to tell me I have to deinstall tools to play a game, I have paid for. I have only a HighEnd Notebook and I am playing at several places. I am not willing to carry all CDs / DVDs with me. And: Some games would not run because they do not like my DL DVD Burner. So I really dont care . . . :D

Maybe here you are right. But think here also about the AoE 3 patch on CGW . . .

But in reply to your post. It is possible. But Earth 2160 uses an own packing format for big files. You have to compre them and use the un/repacker for these files.

DABhand 30-10-2005 08:24

And yeah its illegal to change any data without the developers consent.

So what we are doing here? If I take you word by word, you have no right to use a noCD Crack, so all this forum here is then illegal . . . :o

DABhand 30-10-2005 14:36

Technically yes, but not really..

Removing a cd-check isnt as bad as rewriting game code to change it..

If you think what your thinking, then you may aswell put trainers into the same category as cracks.

blackozan 30-10-2005 15:11

I think some of you are missing something: I have a license for Earth 2160. So, if there is an english conversion available (either it has the developers content, or not), i should have the right to use it with same reason.

Let the game company protect its data, and let the customer play the game, in the language that he wants to play.

I must give an example. You know that notebooks come with operating systems like Windows XP HE. In Turkey, companies like HP offers Windows XP Home Edition English by default, bu if you ask them that you want the Turkish one, they simply accept it and make the cd changement. One of my friend asked Microsoft Turkey about this and they have approved it..

DABhand 30-10-2005 16:50

Your wrong, you bought the right to play the game.. Not own it to change it..

Again people will really need to read their EULA..

Also, if you wanted english why didnt you buy the english one?

Thanks for the notification. But in fact, i don't want to change the game. The game is out there with different versions, and i have the right to play with any - one of them.

And i think you're still missing something there. The game is bought from T-Online's Gamesload -- because Earth 2160 hasn't come to Turkey yet, and we don't want to wait for weeks to ship them from out of the country.
I've paid for it, and paid for good. Please don't tell me about EULA.

And the thing is that...
I've searched the net a little, and saw that dialogs and language .wad files are the keys for conversion. Dialogs.wad is for the speech and takes about 200mb and language.wad is about texts, and i don't know the size.

I can't want from anybody to send me that 200megs file (assuming that there isn't any "chauvinist helper" there :)) but i think that i can request that little text-including file.

Please PM me if you can help me with that. In the way you want, lets do it!

woah chill lol,do you think the dev's are stupid enough to pay another entire team to recode a entire game in another language? hell no,just look in your installation folder and no doubt there will be like a Deutsch.Dat or German.dat

you just gotta find a english version to replace it,simple as that.

but finding it could be a problem.

ps.
if it isent in the installation folder, grab a tool like dkz studio or afs explorer and extract the necesarry folder, there wont be any ripping involved.

i modded winning eleven 9 demo with pes5 demo's englang.dat a few months back, just out of curiosity, and it worked perfect.

No you don't, stop making claims and actually read the EULA, you bought the right to play the german version of the game, you DONT own the game in the extent that you can play any version of any language of the game.

serb 07-01-2006 02:35

Wth R U Talking About

What a bunch of F-ing retard - No he got the game which means if he wants to change it ( like you change the game by adding a new map) that he has a full right to do so, in other words if you dont have a right to change the game there wouldnt be any unofficial mods and patches u retards. And he isnt doing anything illegal he is just asking for an english patch ( which I dont believe exists) and other this is that most of you responding here didnt buy half of your games ( so dont give me bullshit about Eula).

Luciel 07-01-2006 18:27

Before swearing and being a smartass, actually read the eula and be ashamed of your stupidity, you don't like it then read the rules, banned for a month, should be enough for even the likes of you to realise you cant register on any forum just to make 1 flaming post.
