Overclocking?

Hello....

First off here are my specs:
ASUS K8N E Deluxe Mobo
AMD 64 3000+ (754)
2 Gig PC 3200 Ram (generic)
BFG Asylum GeForce 5200 256 MB AGP card
250 gb hd....LiteOn Dual Layer DVD burner....

Well, the clock speed on my Processor is like 2.0ghz and I can overclock with full stablity up to 2.35ghz....I was curious on what I could do to crank it up higher....the system goes non responsive at 2.36ghz.....

Second is there anyway to overclock the graphics card, or flash the bios on it...thanks in advance

stop risking your pc and certainly cutting it's life span, what you need to do its get a decent graphics card, with the one you have you are just bottlenecking your pc.

LOL....neverheard the term bottlenecking before, but you are right...I really need a new graphics card....but currently that isn't an option....I am currently spending most of my time and money trying to get through college. I actually plan on pickin up another graphics card when I get the change though....I was thinkin something like a GeForce 6800

Luciel 28-10-2005 07:59

Yeah i mean, it's a shame you have a amd 64 and 2 gig of ram... you'll be fine with a 5900 or even (although pushing it) a 5600 and they go as cheap as chips on ebay :)

DABhand 28-10-2005 10:05

Gigabyte Gforce 6200's are very cheap just now for a 256mb.. I would go for that..

Or if you have the cash 6600 and upwards. Or an Ati equivalent.

EDIT: Dont push the 754 AMD 64, it becomes very unstable and damages the chip with overclocking, you can overclock the 939 chip (need a different motherboard offcourse) somewhat with safety.

Actually it is the integrated memory controller that gets bad when overclocking the s754 CPU's... :P
On the other (DAB)hand it is in the "chip"... :D

Paying any money for a 6200 is no idea, it is a waste of money. Save the money until you have enough for a 6600GT atleast.

DABhand 28-10-2005 14:47

The Gigabyte 6200 is a GT card, and is quite cheap for someone who doesnt have a lot of it.

In the case of our original poster, he may be skint after paying his money for the machine he has :)

kosmiq 28-10-2005 16:13

Even if the 6200 is a GT is s*cks so bad I would never consider it. It has 64bit memory bandwith, lacks a lot of features and is generally kinda bad.
Its the same thing as the 5200 were back then. Atleast a 6600GT will last a little longer.

That is what I think atleast.

jlg6184 28-10-2005 18:18

I might go ahead and get a 6800...Just kinda hard about with college and all, but when i built the system, I had already had the 5200 when I built everything else, and didn't want to waste it...

DABhand 28-10-2005 19:10

Ill agree the 6600 and upwards are better. But the 6200 will work. And its a good cheap option.

And not all 6200's are 64bit memory bus.

http://www.giga-byte.com/VGA/Product...V-N62128DP.htm

Its not GT, but its a 128bit bus and quite affordable. (only 128mb DDR on it) but im sure there is a 256mb one.

You gotta realise that the original poster is in a BUDGET and just wants to upgrade from he's old 5200. So as Dabhand said, the 6200 would be fine, i recon a 5900 would be fine too.

kosmiq 29-10-2005 07:57

Yes Luciel and I consider the 6600GT to be budget. For me that is as budget as I would ever go. The 6200 I consider being waste of money and therefore thinks he can keep his 5200 until he can afford 6600GT and up.

Luciel 29-10-2005 09:15

hmm, well what prices are we talking about? as far as i know you can get a 5950 on ebay for less than 50 dollars

kosmiq 29-10-2005 11:14

well it is sure not as cheap as any 6200 or 59x0 card, it will cost about 150-170$ brand new. Used ones is far cheaper of course.

jlg6184 29-10-2005 12:51

Just got done doing some research....found a 6200 for about $75 and a 6600 for like $125

Luciel 29-10-2005 17:23

I think you'd get more perfomance out of a 5950 than a 6200 since the 5950 was top of the range and the 6200 is the crappies of the new range.

For some reason 5900's always seem to be out of stock, when im trying to get them into my shop..

Tried a Gigabyte 6200 I had in the shop with a few games, works very well.
