X BOX backup
hey guys,
i want to back up one of my xbox games and everytime i try and copy it (using clonedvd) it only copies the short xbox video clip. i have gone through some of the other threads and they say xbox data does not show up on PC. i was told i have to FTP the game first. what does that mean? is there a way to backup my game without hooking up my xbox to my computer? thanks guys |
hi Hurley
sory to tell you but the only way to do what you are trying to, is by connecting your xbox to your pc and extracting the game from the xbox to the pc , thats the only way I know it can be done, once you have managed to hook them up together you can extract the game files you want to your pc, make it into a Xiso file and then burn it on a dvd as a back up. all you need to do to connect the Xbox is a FTP cabel ( the same cable used in a LAN ) and the right programs, and thats all to it good luck |
Connecting your Xbox and PC via network is is the only way I know of too. If you want to connect it directly to your PC then you need a crossover cable. If you connect via a router or hub then a standard patch cable will work. A crossover cable will also work as a patch cable but a patch cable will NOT work as a crossover cable.

software
Does anyone know the software that I need to extract the games and burn them. Surely there is a tutorial somewhere on the internet with step by step instructions?
Thanx again |
xbox to pc?
or just on xbox? |
Xbox
I can copy the data over a network from xbox to pc but I tried to burn it in nero and the xbox will not recognise the disc. it just comes up as unknown. I have an evolutionX chip.
What do I do?? |
First you get the files from the xbox using a ftp program or any specialized xbox ripping software (running on PC).
When you have the files on your pc you will have to make an iso file using the xbox filesystem. Do that with Qwix or Craxtion whatever you would prefer they will both do the job fine. When that is done burn the .iso file with Nero or even better DVDdecrypter. What I think you've done is correct all the way until the burning. If you drag and drop the files into a nero compilation that will make it use the standard ISO or UDF system and that is not compatible with the custom filesystem the xbox uses. |

Use FlashFXP to get files from XBOX to PC. Use Craxtion 4.0 to turn files into and ISO image. Use DVD Decrypter to burn ISO to disc.
Happy modding! |

Nero for xbox burning
There is a dvd iso/udf selection in Nero. Once there under the udf tab there is an Xbox tick box to check. Then you can burn the iso.
|
Click [File]-->burn image.
I don't have nero on this machine, but I am pretty sure that is where the global image option is. If not, it might be under a "drive" or "recording" menu. |
apparently 321 studios has a program called game x copy. Which lets you backup xbox games right from your originals. I am looking for some owners to see if it works.
|
game x copy is ancient and was intended to by pass pc game's encryption not xbox and as far as i'm aware it does not copy xbox games. there is only 1 way to back up a xbox game and that is by ftp'ing the game from the xbox to the pc first then doing it you'r own way.
it's time some one put up another stickie up showing people how to backup their games. i mean come on guys this is the main reason why i don't come here very ofen any more i got sick of newbies always asking the same question. HOW DO I COPY MY XBOX GAME. AARRHHHHHH read the damn forum, 3 years on and people are still asking how to do it. sorry for the rant quall - ax - rms, but these people get rite on my nerves. any way how you guys keeping long time no talk lol |

Gotta agree though that there really should be a stickie named "How to backup games" so that we won't have 5 of these threads created everyday... Some people just won't read the forums as there are like 3-4 threads about the same subject on the first page ATM. Forum doing fine (even though I can't really remember talking much to you :p )... Newbs coming now and then and so on as usual... :D |

I'm a newbie and have spent 2 weeks trying to burn a Xbox iso and acting on a lot of wrong information I had found on the net, I happened upon this site, and Bingo all relevant correct info here. And yes I did type in search and yes I did find what i was looking for. Special thanks to 'zellar' and 'kosmiq' for answering and putting me on the correct road. Great site :)

And that you like the site... :D |
I must admit one thing guys......When someone says ......READ THE DAMN STICKIES.... and ......THIS IS A WASTE OF MY TIME ... it makes me laugh a little.......I know a lot of questions are asked and there are many answers here already.....but if it bothers you so much....Then don't waste our time by posting negative stuff.....I remember back in the day when I was trying to get on here or other places and if it weren't for a lot of people answering questions it would have taken me a while...The stickies are sometimes vague and some of the stuff, you can not post...Where to get this....where to get that...etc.....a couple of PM's will do the trick....If you have the time to write.....READ THE TUTORIALS....then you have the time to point out some key things that helped YOU along the way.....Shewww....Ok....off the soapbox now.....Sorry.....I just joined another forum about some other stuff and the morons there are worthless.....Some people just lile to spend their time pissing other people off in between staying home on Friday nights and watching Cinemax late nights.....lol

Getting back to the topic of the thread, you could try using a program called Qwix.
http://www.teamavalaunch.com/qwix/ That's the best program I know of to back up your xbox stuff. It kind of combines ftp and creation of an xiso in one program. |
sorry to thread hijack...your all doing this with a modchip in place??and if yea whats the best or better modchip to use...id like to back my games up...
or does it depend on my xbox model |
You could either soft mod or hard mod. I don't have the time to go into detail now, but, soft mod=no mod chip hard mod=modchip. Personally, i think that a mod chip is better then softmodding. I think that it is better when you are going to play on xbox live.
dragonx  |
