Three ways to play currently exist:

1. The (almost) always working solution of the original DVD.
2. The make-image-then-download-mds-from-gcw-then-burn-and-use-external-dvd-drive...
3. The not yet fully confirmed (without external usb drive) method.

robbdn 20-04-2005 04:53

Well, some may say that the "not yet fully confirmed" method works for them, it definitely does not work in all cases.

I tried with karlmuller's EU mds in addition to LeatherFace's (as was previously confirmed) without success. Also using LG drive with latest firmware, and latest A %120 so I'm afraid I'll have to add to the confusion as to why this seems to be working for some. Only difference was I did not use a DVD+RW, but a DVD+R, have no idea if that could possibly make some difference, but I doubt it.

LoedD 20-04-2005 06:42

there's no difference.
I tried with RW and it does not work

2 JJ I'm sorry I forgot. Here is the link.

NeoXed 20-04-2005 08:45

Well its really Hardware based i think... Some like me have luck and some not... Maybe an new SCCT Patch will fix it (i hope not) but atm it works.

!HaGaR! 20-04-2005 11:56

Doh!

Yet another SCCT-Thread.
Please mods... Paste ´em all together and stick the thread.
It´s a pain in the ass to have dozens of threads - and users asking permanently the same questions.

I play!

Hi guys, I followed your hints and I created a backup dvd of SCCT. I used the mds file from copybase.ch (Panoramix) and I burned DVD with the lastest version of Alcohol 120% with RMPS ON. I've got a NEC ND-3500 AG external USB with the lastest firmware and I used a DVD+RW. After I created my copy, I used starf*** to disable my IDE drive and I disabled all my virtual device. I actived all emulation option of Daemon Tools and put my backup copy in my USB DVD and the game started.

I hope that this post could help some gamers. :p

Now Let's PLAY! :D

What CD key did you use? The European one that have been circulating on the Web?

Actually, this thread was made to discuss on how to play WITHOUT the external USB drive. The method you used is already all-too-well-known.

LoedD 23-04-2005 05:37

So now this is for the elite pro's of you.
Mushukyou asked if there is any possibilty to make your PC believe that an USB-stick is a real device. So if that is possible we just need a new fake-image that includes the autorun features of the original. This should be possible for a size of a few Mb's. Then either run the image from USB-stick or put the data to it. But how to put dpm to it? It's up 2u2 find out. ;)

TekXoID 23-04-2005 07:29

Well this is pretty messed up.

I buy the game the day it's out, come home, install, patch to v1.02, and attempt to play the game only to get one of these two errors.

"Incorrect DVD in drive please retry"
"The Key given does not match the dvd's key"

Or something to that extent.

I have alcohol and daemon tools installed now and have been trying everything to no avail. My specs are:

A64 3500+ Venice core @ 3.22GHz on my custom VapoChill
2x512MB Corsair PC4400 @ 345MHz CAS 3-4-4-8 1T
Sapphire ATi Radeon X850XT-PE @ 618 Core / 664 Memory
2x36GB Raptor for C: drive and 2x80GB WD SATA's for D: drive (Both RAID-0)
DFI NF4 Ultra, NEC 3520A DVDRW, OCZ PowerStream 520w

I didn't exactly buy this whole system only to run into ****ty problems
like this. I PAID THEM $55 for the game and it DOES NOT WORK?!?!?

What can I do, someone help me.

LoedD 23-04-2005 11:19

If u read the other threads you'll see that the currently only way 2 make a backup work is to burn an image of your original 2 DVD ond mount into an USB-device while using Starforce nightmare. If nothin' workz u should contact tho store where u bought the game.

TekXoID 23-04-2005 11:33

Retail DVD. Not working.

DABhand 23-04-2005 11:37

Its a bit OT

But I have to know...

Why should we call you god LoedD?

@tekxoid
That is very strange, seems the update has kinda now hates your drive. I would get in contact with the publisher (they are the ones that place the protections on the games) and if no joy there, get a refund from them as it is their fault that your game isnt working. And dont take the "You can always play by the retail version and not install the patch" cause thats not what you bought the game for, your expected to have good support and you should get it.

TekXoID 23-04-2005 16:13

The demo was so cool...I'm dying to play this game, but not only can you warez people not play it, I paid and I still can't play it. I'll just hold on to it until either Ubi releases a patch that makes the irritating protection back the **** off of people who actually buy the game or use a NoCD, whatever century it gets released...:(

If I were you, I would take a more pro-active approach and file a complaint with Ubisoft. Only then would they heed any attention to consider discontinuing Starforce.

May I point out, that we are not warez people.

You may annoy people with that statement.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was warezing. I do own the retail copy of the game. BTW, I didn't ask him for his key or anything. :)

The game runs beautifully at 12x10 with all in-game settings maxed out. Now, all I need is a no-cd.

I have to say that I've tried my Chaos Theory backup DVD and USB Drive on more than 15 computers at work. Before I formatted and Re-Installed Windows on these machine (I'm an Administrator, and a nasty Virus was playing havoc with the machines), I installed Chaos Theory on all of them. This is not to play on you understand, but to test the functionality of the USB trick. All these computers have different hardware, but are quite powerful. Using my backup and USB housing, I was able to install and play on 13 machines. The two it wouldn't run on were due to incompatible hardware, however the DVD check screen was passed, and these would have played also had they had better VGA cards installed. Also, the backups were created on 3 different DVD Re-Writers.

I'll go further and say I've yet to find a machine the backup won't work properly on. Going on these findings, I would say that problems playing from a backup must be due to one of these reasons.

1.A bad DVD image, or to be more specific, a bad MDS image, possibly due to a poor Re-Writer. However my images were created on Pioneer 109D, and other cheaper drives.
2.An illegal copy of the game. Of course I'm not pointing any fingers, but I've had several E-Mails requesting a DVD-KEY. It goes without saying that my image (MDF and MDS) was created from an original DVD.
3.Out of date Alcohol120 or Daemon tools (obvious, but you never know)
4.Possible conflict with IDE channel, even though STARF***ER or SF_NIGHTMARE are installed. Always disconnect your IDE drives physically if your backup won't work, to be sure it's not this.
5.Finally, it's possible that the USB adaptor itself could be the problem. I'm not rolling in money, so I'm not going to go and buy several housings just to try this, but for your information, my working housing is a Venus DS Model No.2512B2, costing £20 (UK)

I got the EU version of the game(patched to 1.02) and it works perfectly with the usb dvdrom.I use SFN to disable all the ide dvdroms, use the ide2usb dongle for my external dvdrom and enable the RMPS emulation in Alcohol. They are only 2 serials for these game(EU and US version) that currently on the net and both works with each respective version. The only way to play the game with backup for now is definately by using usb external dvdrom and SFN.

just for my own understanding:

WHY THE HECK do u have to enable emulation in D-Tools, if playing the game form an external DVD-Drive?

that sounds a bit crazy to me though d-tools doesn't have anything to do with my external drive does it?

thx

Muji-FightR 21-07-2005 09:59

Daemon Tools emulation also works for external/internal (real drives, not virtual) drives... ;)

RiCE41 28-07-2005 00:47

ive never tried but maybe this is another method how to make thingz workin:

If you got 2 PC (or a laptop or something), then you need a link cable (its an active cable, that makes possible to connect 2 PC via USB, with it). So maybe its possible to do the same like in the USB2.0 DVD case, but this time with a network drive via usb2.0. As i said ive never tried this method, but im intrested if its workin, cuz a cable like this is not so expensive like an USB2 device.

btw. im also intrested if anybody tried to make the game workin with a normal lan drive.
