Hexen 2 under Win-XP???

I just found my original hexen2 cd and wanna play it after all the time again

but now theres a problem..

win xp

how can i get this game work.

i renamed the opengl32.dll but when i start the game i get an "Hunk_Alloc - Bad Size: -216" Error

does anyone know how i can make this game work ???

Been a long time since i played this on XP but i seem to recall having to remove the glide.dll or something and the game ran fine using opengl.

Xtensioner 23-02-2005 22:20

as is searched the foru, bevore i found a thread with the hint to delete or rename the opengl32.dll

and than just run the game.

Following these instructions let me start the game menu ect. but when i try to start a new single player game i still get these damn error from above...

o and there is no glide.dll in my hexen2 directory so if anybody has some other ideas please let me know

search in google for "JHEXEN" trust me, the result ull get is that you'll find out hexen, doom & heretic have been redone in a 3d engine, shadows, lightning and polygons, and tottallly winxp compatible, enjoy!

Hey guys,

Xtensioner was talking about Hexen _2_. I haven't tried the Doomsday engine on it yet, but I don't think jHexen would run Hexen _2_, as well!

Copy the opengl32.dll from your X:\Windows\System32 Directory and paste it into your HeXen 2 Directory replacing the old opengl32.dll.

Xtensioner 24-02-2005 22:58

hmm ok the one with the opengl.dll from the windows/system32 didnīt work.

i gonna try the newhexen thing from mapomme...

but another mysterious thing happend.

as i was at work this night i tryed to install and play hexen2 on my pc at work.

its an old P3 500 with WIN 98 SE

and there i get the same error message as under Win XP...

is it possible that this is an data error from maybe invalid or coruppted data from the CD. Because i canīt believe that the same error accurs under 2 completely different systems with different operating systems.

Xtensioner 24-02-2005 23:13

ok download is ready and it still doesnīt work because i need this damn addon to bring newhexen to work...

and i donīt have it

This is what I found looking up google, Seems to be related to memory and not video

"Hunk_Alloc: failed on x bytes" or engine runs choppily with flickering disk icon
Try allocating more memory for the engine by adding the command line option Heapsize (Memory Allocation).

Hexen II: normally uses half the physical memory in your system for its heap, but not less than 12 Mb and not more than 22 Mb. You can override this with "-heapsize n", where n is the amount of memory to allocate for the heap, in Kb. For instance, you would type "-heapsize 16000" to use 16 Mb of RAM.

Have you tried the starting Hexen 2 Safe Mode or Very Safe Mode?.

Xtensioner 25-02-2005 10:12

if you can tell me how i will try

Shaw 25-02-2005 16:48

H2 crashes or won't run
If H2 refuses to run or crashes on your system, try running it using "H2 safe" or "H2 verysafe". Or you can use command-line switches:

H2.exe -nodirectdraw -nowindirect -wavonly

This will almost certainly solve your problem; however, it may result in lagged sound (a long delay from action to hearing the sound), may result in fewer or slower high-res video modes, and the mouse may be somewhat less responsive. If this does work, you can try removing each of the command-line switches until you identify the one that fixes the problem, thereby sacrificing as little functionality as possible.

If the above command line does not fix your problems, try:

H2.exe -dibonly -nosound

which forces H2 into silent operation with bare-bones video support and no use of DirectInput for mouse input (the normal Windows mouse APIs are used instead). Again, if this works, try removing switches until you identify the needed one.

nothing of this worked so i think its defenitly an data error from some file.

Thx for helping but it seems that i must organize myself a new cd :(
