Scrapland by American McGee

Does anyone know where i can locate a NoCD for American McGee's game 'Scrapland' (English) PC CD-rom? I would be very grateful for any help available. Thank you!

BarryB 12-12-2004 15:31

There is no 'crack' for this game only a mini image, it does work as a NoCD but you need Daemon Tools and Starf*ck installed to use it!

I'll send it to GCW and you can decide whether to try it or not!

sole_fish 12-12-2004 16:00

Thanks!

Thanks! I'll give it a try. BTW , INCREDIBLE game!

BarryB 12-12-2004 18:56

Yeah! Great game, just trying to do the 3rd (or maybe 4th) set of Crazy Bets: Data tubes left on desk acting as messenger 0 / 4, only need this before I get the Super Crazy Bet :)

aliwualk 13-12-2004 12:04

where is the mini.image of scrapland ?

I can find the mini image , any help ?, thx

AmonShire 13-12-2004 14:02

i need mini image

where can i find mini image for scrapland,i have tried everything, please help!!! :(

BarryB 13-12-2004 15:17

The mini image is now on GCW.

Also, I made a mistake! The image came from a 'No Group' release and NOT CXZiSO, sorry guys!

If EMPiRE is reading this better update GCW to remove CXZiSO, don't want to upset them!

judas989 15-12-2004 08:53

is Scrapland even out yet?

sole_fish 15-12-2004 09:21

Yep

It is a little hard to find, bu gogamer.com has the best price I've seen on it. Under 30 bucks. They even ship for $1.99 if you don't mind waiting a week or so to get it. :o

In Detail

I have tried this process before like 10 times i must be doing something wrong maybe putting something in the wrong place or using the wrong image file because as u know i have the one that installed the game and the mini and i have dameon and starf**k on my system if someone could help a lost soul such as myself and explain in detail how to get this game to run.

You must have Daemon Tools 3-47 and StarFock 0-82 installed and properly configured. You must have launched one time the game and rebooted (installation of the drivers). Then :

01/ Launch StarFock
02/ Choose the protection Starforce63
03/ Patch Black List
04/ Unmount your CD Roms
05/ Close StarFock
06/ Mount the mini-image with Daemon Tools
07/ Launch the game - Play the game - Quit the game
08/ Un-Mount the mini-image with Daemon Tools
09/ Launch StarFock
10/ Choose the protection Starforce63
11/ Mount your CD Roms
12/ UnPatch Black List
13/ Close StarFock

If you want to relaunch the game, close your windows session and begin a new session, then repeat the 13 steps.

You don't have to do that :)

Set the Preferences of starf*ck to tell it what channel your CD/DVD drives are located on, the mode to use (aggressive works for me) and the path to Daemon Tools, then save that config and starf*ck will remember it.

Next use the Link Generator in starf*ck to make a 1 click link that mounts the image, disables the CD/DVD drives, runs the game (you have to tell it it to use BIN\Scrap.exe ), then when you exit the game it will unmount the image and re-enable your CD/DVD drives. Save the link to your desktop so it's easily run! I leave it set to the default protections mode: 'Starforce 3.4.63.002'

Once you've done that, you only have to keep creating a link for each game you have, then you lauch the game via the link everytime, no messing about patching/disabling/mounting/running/unmounting/enabling :)

The only other thing to remember is that Daemon Tools has at least 1 drive enabled so Starf*ck can mount the image!

In theory, you are right  ... except it doesn't work for me with Scrapland (it works for the other Starfarce protected games).
It's curious : if I do that manually step by step, it works. If I do the same thing with a command line, it doesn't work. I think there are some delays problems, and StarFock is a beta...

understood

dude i missed the part in ur list thing and it sayd lauch the game etc well the game doesnt lauch it gives me and error "Please Insert Scrapland into a different drive" i just wanna play the game i have been fckin round w/ this **** for weeks now and since suprnova.org is gone i cant get a better version or some ****

BarryB 20-12-2004 15:51

I used the mini image I sent to GCW.

If you run Scrapland.exe, be aware that it runs another EXE BIN\Scrap.exe, so if you setup a link to run the game and you use Scrapland.exe, it won't work! You have to use BIN\Scrap.exe in the Links Generator screen!

As to why it won't work, first try running Starf*ck, click Preferences and set the channel your CD/DVD drives are on and the mode to Aggressive, then save that setting. Run starf*ck again, click on StarForce 3.4.63.002 and click the 'Disable CDROMS' button then check your cdroms are actually disabled in your 'My Computer' screen!

If not, try using the 'Super Aggressive' mode and try again, if you still can't get it to disable your drives try 'Normal' mode, but this locked up my PC when I tried it! Also try to put your CD/DVD drives are on the secondary IDE channel if possible.

If you still have trouble, use your original disc!

Indeed, that was the tip ! Now it works in theory and in practice. :)

Thank you !

Hi

I've done everything according to what you have said here, but the game still isn't working. It starts checking the mini image, but I get the following error message at the end of the check:
Failed to identify the disc in the drive. Insert a licensed disc.
I haven't installed any Scrapland patches. Is is possible, that it's not working because I'm using the Hungarian version of Windows XP Professional?

MaPomme 27-12-2004 14:26

Try to make a file with notepad containing the following :

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MercurySteam Entertainment\Scrapland]
"LANGUAGE"="English"
"COUNTRY"="US"

Close the file with 2 carriage returns, save it under the name "Scrap.reg". Now double-click on the file, and say yes to regedit, which put it in the registry.

Then launch the game and tell us.

Bonjour chez vous,

Ma Pomme

CH4R1ie 28-12-2004 06:56

I didn't need to edit the registry, because that was the default setting. I found the solution however. I had to use StarForce 3.4.49.xxxx instead. Now it works like a charm. Unfortunatelly the Link Generated doesn't work on every occasion, so I have to press the buttons manually, but I don't mind, since this is a very cool game ;) BTW, does is work for you in StarForce 3.4.49.xxxx mode?

Cheers :)

MaPomme 28-12-2004 07:19

It works, and that's enough...

Curious. I use Starfock 0.82 with Starfarce 3.4.63 and it works !

But : who cares ? :)

Minor correction

I'd also like to add a minor correction. You have to use patch StarForce63 and StarForce49 afterwards as well. So here are the steps I do to run the game (at least what I did, because I already completed the game ;) ) :

01/ Launch StarFock
02/ Choose the protection Starforce63
03/ Patch Black List
04/ Choose the protection Starforce49
05/ Patch Black List
06/ Disable your CD Roms
07/ Mount the mini-image with Daemon Tools
08/ Launch the game - Play the game - Quit the game
09/ Choose the protection Starforce49
10/ Enable your CD Roms
11/ UnPatch Black List
12/ Close StarFock

So this means, that you should try two methods to run the game in case the first method fails. Have fun.

BTW, does the game ever play HumanGD.ogg? That was the soundtrack for the Gambler's Joint in the demo verison. Do you like this soundtrack :)?

bruuno117 04-01-2005 15:38

I Just dont get it to work :/

I need a totally bulletproff dummy-howto to get this thing to run, non of you guys advices had made it possible for me to get the game to run.

I have tried burning the images to cds (like i prefer it) and install from there, i have mounted them with clonecd and D-tools and installede from there, i have mounted and dismountede the miniimage 100 of times, run star**** and over and over again, and it just wont run, I must be freaking stupid.

Im using a danish version of win2000 if that has anything to say, and my dvd drive is slave on the primary channel, and my cd writer is master on my secondary channel, if that has anything to do with it.

Would somebody carve it out in HUGE letters for me what to do, from start to end

YES your with stupid ----->

MaPomme 05-01-2005 07:12

That's Starfarce...

Put your DVD drive on the secondary channel. :)

Bonjour chez vous,

Ma Pomme

CH4R1ie 06-01-2005 02:07

Yeah, you also need to configure Star**** once and only once. Having a HDD and a CD or DVD drive on the same cable also slows down your HDD and Star**** doesn't work properly then. When both your cd writer and your dvd drive is on the same cable (I suggest secondary), you can configure Star**** to disable the drives on secondary channel. You might also need to use Agressive or SuperAgressive patching.

bruuno117 07-01-2005 05:23

w00t

Well i did that but in adition i tried to disconnect the drives completly, I then mounted the minimage with deamon tools, and started scrapland up, it looked promesing for a while, it actually started checking the disk, but then after it finished doing that, BAM it shut down the computer, no freezing just a regular shutdown. What the HECK happened there, has anybody encountered that before !?!?

I have just bought a new cpu, and it gets plenty hot, it runs at around 70 celcius right now i think, and it shut down at 85, can the cpu have gotten that hot in those few sec it tried to start up scrapland !?

bruuno117 07-01-2005 09:21

one more thing

Should i still run star***** even when i have manually disconnected my optic drives, and should i enable emulation in d-tools, and which one ?

CH4R1ie 07-01-2005 09:46

I think patching your virtual drives are still required. I myself tried unplugging my drives, but it was no use. You can only use the mini image to start the game (or the original cd, but I suppose you want to play without the cd). Try using different combinations of StarForce to start the game. When the checking starts and it takes too long then you shouldn't bother waiting for it to finish because when it detects the correct disk, it will start almost instantly (so you'll save plenty of time while you're testing). You might also try getting the latest StarFock. The latest version is 0.83, and they are going to release 0.9 soon. It might be possible, that StarFock isn't fully compatible with your hardware configuration, so might need to wait. Just make sure you're using the lastest D-Tools (3.47) or Alcohol 120% (1.9.2.1705) and StarFock (0.83). Don't use any of the emulations, it works fine without them.
About your computer crashing, well try running other games and if they don't crash, the source of the problem might be, that you are using one of the agressive patching methods.

Good Luck :)

bruuno117 07-01-2005 10:40

mkay

well i didnt use any patching when i disconnected the drives. Besided i tried to run another game and nothing happened, so i dint know if it was the protection that stepped in and shut it down, that would be a little to agressive for my taste. Ill try the latest version of star**** if im able to finde it. Lets see how it goes.

bruuno117 07-01-2005 13:47

got it

I finally got this thing to work, it kinda helped when i got both my optical drives on the secondary channel, after i mounted the image with d-tools and ran star******, it just ran like it was supposed to. So thanks for all the advice, without it i would never have figured it out ;)

but now im having a problem with buffer underrun when i burn cds :/ well not really, smartburn takes care of them, but it didnt happen before for some reason .

CH4R1ie 07-01-2005 14:18

Success

You're welcome ;)

About buffer underruns, try to press unpatch blacklist on all starforce versions several times to make sure it reverts the settings. You may also press enable drives several times as well. Let's hope it solves it.

MaPomme 07-01-2005 21:29

Reboot

Starfock is a hard hack, the OS isn't intended for temporary IDE drives. Then, after Scrapland and before burning, i reboot.

Nothing works for me

Hi all

Thanx for explains, but I don't succeed in launching scrapland. Nothing works, and I've done everything several time.
It drives me crazy !
Shall I use alcohol 120% instead of daemon tool 3.47 ?

Thx

whoeverxxx 19-01-2005 22:01

After reading through all this, I think I'll use the original disc or more than likely live without the game.. Disconnecting drives to get a game to work without the original disc sounds like more work than tring to keep the original discs from getting all scratched up.

oJoJo 24-01-2005 12:32

1. Go to your Control Panel
2. Doubleclick on System
3. Now click on the tab labeled Hardware
4. Then click on Device Manager

5. Under System devices you will find many names listed, but the only 2 you need to write down are "PnP BIOS Extension" and "Plug and Play BIOS Extension". "PnP BIOS Extension" belongs to Daemontools virtual drive and "Plug and Play BIOS Extension" belongs to Alcohol 120% virtual drive. Now you can close the Device Manager.

6. Go to your Windows directory and open regedit.exe (Registry Editor)

7. Now find this entry in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\SYSTEM

8. Under SYSTEM you will find numbers like "0000" "0001" "0002" "0003" etc etc. Now click on any of this numbers and look for "DeviceDesc". "DeviceDesc" contains a description for the device. If you just have Alcohol 120% virtual drive installed you have to find the number that contains the "DeviceDesc" with the text "Plug and Play BIOS
Extension" next to it. And if you just have Daemontools virtual drive installed you have to find the number that contains the "DeviceDesc" with the text "PnP BIOS Extension" next to it. If you have both programs installed it speaks for it itself that you have to find both numbers.

9. Now to the important part. If for example the number "0002" contains the "DeviceDesc" with the the text "PnP BIOS Extension" next to it, you rightclick on the number 0002. Next you click on "Permission...". A window should appear. Under the header "Security" you first have to click on "SYSTEM". Then a menu with the name "Permissions for SYSTEM" appears below. In this menu you will see the the text "Read" with two choices next to it (Allow or Deny). Click on "Deny" then on OK and then on Yes. Do the same for the number that contains the "DeviceDesc" with the text "Plug and Play BIOS Extension" next to it. If you have done everything correctly "PnP BIOS Extension" and "Plug and Play BIOS Extension" should not not appear any more in the Device Manager under System devices.

10. After you have done this you can play all new starforce games by mounting the mini image. By the way dont forget to disconnect your CD or DVD-drives or to disable them(star**** 0.83). And if you have any other virtual drives other than Alcohol or Daemontools installed, just uninstall them!

11. Enjoy another bunch of Starforce protected games!:))

bobon 04-02-2005 17:00

Still no go...

This is where I stand...

1. I changed system permissions on the daemontools and alcohol registry keys, and now they don't appear on device manager

2. I'm using starduck 0.83 and I tried to patch blacklist on .49 and .63, and also generate a link - to no avail. starduck definately disables my cdrom (it disappears from my computer)

What am I doing wrong? I hope some forum guru can help...

TIA

CH4R1ie 05-02-2005 00:52

You might not need to listen to Mr. Cut & Paste (oJoJo) and skip all of his steps. It is possible, that you are doing everything fine, because Star**** is still in beta status and the project is currently frozen. You might try patching only one of the StarForce versions. If it still doesn't work, you might try using StarForce Nightmare from http://www.project-star****.tk/. I haven't tested it, so I don't know, if it works.

BarryB 05-02-2005 12:01

StarForce NIGHTMARE 1.01 - Only works on WinXP - Win 2003 Server!!

One warning, DO NOT CLICK the Disable ATA button unless you like Blue Screens :)

This new Anti-Starforce tool seems to deal with problems inherent in StarF*ck, namely optical devices on mulitple IDE channels!

It allows disabling not only 1 or both IDE channels, but all CD/DVD drives or an individual Master/Slave drive on Primary/Secondary IDE or a combination of any Master/Slave drive on Primary/Secondary IDE!! So you should be able to disable your drives no matter where they are located on your IDE channel!

Just make sure you know what IDE channel your CD/DVD drives are on and if they are Master or Slave and don't disable your Hard Drives by mistake, you could crash your system

On the downside, this tool has no command line options and no automatic link generator, meaning you have to manually mount you mini images, run SFN and click the appropriate button to disable you drives depending where your optical devices are located, wait for them to be disabled and then run your game! Hopefully, given time, I would think an automatic link generator will be included.

I tested this with Scrapland:

1. Mounted the mini image in Daemon Tools.
2. As I have both DVD-ROM/DVD-Writer on Secondary IDE I clicked Disable ch2 in SFN. This seemed much faster at disabling my drives than the Disable CD or Sc.Mas-Sl Off options!
3. Ran the normal game link to run Scrapland.

It worked!

Seeing as StarF*ck works perfectly well for me (and has the benefit of the link generator) SFN is really only for those who can't get StarF*ck working!

So I'll be sticking to StarF*ck for now :D

bobon 05-02-2005 22:45

I don't think starduck is my problem - I can see my cdrom drive disappear from my computer, and its a standalone on its ide channel anyway (I have 1 sata drive and 1 cdrom on ide). No combination of patching got this to work...

Is there a specific order I need to follow with patching/disabling/installing the game? I'm starting to think this will never work...

Thanks in advance
