Valve removed the CD-Check, so my NOCD is no longer needed.

anonym001 21-11-2004 08:09

The Link is dead. :(

EDIT:
Ok now it works. It think my Inet connect had problems..

EDIT #2:

When I start the hijack_hl2.exe then steam starts. there i choose play HL2.
Then steam gives me the error:

Steam - Error

The Game is currently unavaliable.
Please try again at an other time.

What can i do?

--Ano

hijack 21-11-2004 09:06

Check the hl2.exe you installed, it should be 86 088 bytes and sit where steam.exe is installed. Then check that it has properly overwritten the file steamapps/<your account>/half life 2/hl2.exe (it should be the exact same file after you started hl2 via hijacked steam).

Try to run hl2.exe without steam. It should complain about a missing dll. If it says anything else, you probably have a corrupted file.

Here's the md5sum of hl2.exe: b00737498dbb7d4ab17c44aec27d50bd

Edit: Try with torrent link above, it's an updated version

ttfb05 21-11-2004 10:37

No CD file for this game yet>?

mnemonick 21-11-2004 21:25

Link is dead!

Hijack your our only hope! I think a nocd/dvd crack is what most people want, i ahte carrying my dvd everywhere i go. I have bought the game id just like to play it wehrever im at.

sabbey 21-11-2004 22:35

Yeah, I feel the same way. I can't make a backup, so I refuse to have to use the DVD as a result. I love GCW because of this. Problem is, it doesn't really matter now since the whole stutter issue is making me not able to even play... ;)

Oh well, looking forward to doing so once the upcoming patch is released!

mr yellow 21-11-2004 23:29

How do u use hijack HL2?

sabbey 22-11-2004 00:14

I haven't tried it yet, but here's what hijack wrote before...

http://www.fileforums.com/showpost.p...&postcount=173

fraenzer 22-11-2004 02:18

@Hijack: Isnīt there the chance to put your files on yahoo breifcase or something like that?

HiJacks link is down

Any other mirrors???

hijack 22-11-2004 02:36

Try again, the torrent should now work

fraenzer 22-11-2004 02:42

BIG THX to you.

You did a great job on this.

fraenzer 22-11-2004 03:02

One more question:
you wrote in readme.txt that your files work on the steam version.
Well I got the retail one, so does anyone know what about hijackīs files working with this one?

THX so long

hijack 22-11-2004 03:18

It only works with the retail version. It allows you to run the steam version when you bought the retail one. The steam version doesn't contain any cd check.

sabbey 22-11-2004 03:22

Here's a question I don't recall seeing so far:

How does it work with the updating portion of Steam? Will you need the disc then, or will it think you are using the Steam version even in that circumstance? I am assuming they don't have records of who actually bought it over Steam, right? ;)

hijack 22-11-2004 03:33

Updating should work, and the nocd will work until they add specific code in steam to forbid it.
Steam still thinks you use the retail version.

fraenzer 22-11-2004 03:40

Well, if there is an update for the game, try it, i duno think that they have a list of steam and retail users.

But other question:
To activate the offline modus, you need to save your account settings.
If I do so, iīm able to play without being online and without the dvd in the drive, right?

THX for help

Thanks! I will give your NOCD/DVD patch a try once I can get the upcoming stutter patch from Valve. Would do so now, but the game is unplayable for me currently!

BTW, I hope they don't add any such code, since it'd probably just screw everyone over more so than we are already. In any case, the cynic in me wouldn't be surprised if it ended up giving those with the actual Steam copy problems as well...

hijack 22-11-2004 04:25

sabbey: Even if they add such a code, it should'nt be too hard to update the nocd (for me or someone else, since the code is availiable). Also, the CD protection comes from Vivendi, so I don't think they'll care much about it. They can't release a nocd patch because Vivendi won't allow that. But I think they appreciate that their customers are happier because they can use a nocd.

Grumpy 22-11-2004 05:04

@ Hijack
Geez! your gonna be kept busy aren't you ;) Thanks again it works brilliantly for me. I havent had any problems with it. :)

hijack 22-11-2004 06:32

These packages are older than the torrent one. The readme is bad copy of the old website and is almost unreadable. Please use the torrent link instead.

Edit: And you don't have to register anything to download it. Simply use a BitTorrent downloader like Azureus (free software)

anonym001 22-11-2004 08:33

all hl2.exe's have a size of 86.088 Bytes.

I tryed the torrent version, but there is still the same Error.
When I start hl2.exe it wants filesystem_stdio.dll

Any Ideas?

You have to start "hijack_hl2.exe" !!!

hijack 22-11-2004 10:29

anonym001: What version of Windows do you use? Is there any other error displayed?

GLH: I asked him to run it to ensure it was not corrupted

Dimensio 22-11-2004 10:49

hijack, what has changed since the original release and the torrent link release?

I'm attempting to grab the torrent now.

Fnatse 22-11-2004 11:17

I have exactly the same problem as anonym001. I'm using Windows 2000 SP3 if that's any help to you.

anonym001 22-11-2004 11:50

I use Windows 2000 SP3, too.
There are no other errors.

I compiled the code myself and used the 2 compiled files in a second try, but there was no different;

Sorry for my bad English (original language is german)

afnz 22-11-2004 12:18

I have the same problem as the previous two posters. Win2k SP3 here also, so it probably is an OS related issue?

Timber78 22-11-2004 12:38

thx-a-lot hijack

It has to be an OS issue as I have Win2K SP3 and I get the 'Steam - Error, The Game is currently unavaliable. Please try again at an other time' message too. Poo, I have a damaged drive so I cannot play at ALL without a nocd, ah well here's hoping for a fix.

EDIT: Doh! What an ejit, I have SP4! :D

pericolum 22-11-2004 13:53

same error here

i have win2k also, sp4

i have an error log ... maybe that will help:

hijack 22-11-2004 14:46

Dimensio: I only added a few more checks in the path names

Edit: Win2k users, try the DLL attached to this post
Edit2: DLL removed. See below.

dhcpp 22-11-2004 16:03

Ive tried the new dll.
Same Error as before.

Oops, I made a mistake. Try this one instead.

Edit: DLL removed

dracflamloc 22-11-2004 16:25

Hey hijack. No luck on Win2k SP4 here: I don't get the errorlog files anymore with the new dll but steam still crashes. Theres no error msgbox or anything it just disappears as if it was going to launch the game but doesn't. I checked the running processes after and neither steam.exe or hl2.exe is there.

Kdjn 22-11-2004 16:29

ditto...

Same for me.....Exactly what the last guy said.....

WhiteWidow 22-11-2004 16:31

I have the same Problem with Win2k Sp4 no msg still crash.

WiKiD 22-11-2004 16:33

great work on the patch... works fine for me ( i actually bought the game, thats probably why ppl are getting errors)

you should also put on your desc on gcw that it works for cs source and hl1 source aswell

just to help you out, im running on xp sp2 :P
