DutchDemon 27-10-2004 11:55

bighap 27-10-2004 12:09

No they all do.

TylerDurden 27-10-2004 14:18

Heck even some unmodded ps2s will read DVDRW.

Tu upgrade the Infinity to V1.36 in a new PSTwo is pretty straght forward if you follow the .txt file included with the new V1.36 update. However you will need a modded PS2 and memory card to load the flash update to then use the memory card on the PSTwo after you have installed the Infinity in your PSTwo. Read the attached file, its from the Matrix team and comes with there v1.36 update. This method is only needed if the chip doesnt already have the v1.36 update, which all the currently produced MI's are support to come with now.

Hull_chipper 28-10-2004 22:37

Cheerz for all that speed, I'm aware of that m8 but a post on ps2newz says you cant use this method for versions prior to 1.2.

Tis all hearsay at the mo but I'll obviously find out for myself l8r today lol

TarzanBoy007 30-10-2004 00:39

Did you check the install diagram for the PsTwo? It looks even easier than a v5 or v7!!

There aren't any on-pin solders.... just two capacitors and a bunch of pads.
If not for the lack of hard drive (hd loader is the bomb), i might be tempted to get one.

Maybe i'll start offering my services to install chips on these new models. A relative walk in the park after my v7

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the whole PS2 modding scene so please forgive me if what I'm about to ask sounds dumb...

With the upgrade, can you load the flash update to the memory card with any PS2 thats fitted with any modchip, or does the modded PS2 need to have the Matrix Infinity chip in it.

I have one of the new PStwo's and a mate has an older v7 that I modded for him with a Magic 3 modchip a while ago. Can I use his PS2 to get the flash onto the memory card and then install the Matrix Infinity in my PStwo and update it?

I just want to clarify this before I order a chip. Thanks.

lufcfan 30-10-2004 02:53

No it has to have an Infinity. All flashes are hardware specific, and besides, the Magic 3 isn't flashable...

Hope that helps... :)

Right anything older from the factory with a flash older then v1.2 wont be able to booot from the mem manger, you can look at the code date on the actell its self, a number of 0411 or higher will have the v1.2 firmware. The only way to get a V1.0 to flash to v1.36 is to install it in a V1-V10 console then un-install it and re-install it in a V12. We sold out of all our stock of V1.0 long ago thank goodness.

I'm not sure thats what he is asking, I think he just wants to use a chipped (any chip) V7 to load the flash upgrade to the memory card, then upgrade the Infinity with it in his V12.

I dont see why this wouldnt work, give it a try and let us know.

Tis no major probs actually m8, with the disc in the tray, console upside down & the bottom removed I can flash & swap the chip without assemble/disassembly lol

Exactly! I don't want to flash my mates Magic chip, all I want to do is stick the program onto the memory card.

The reason I'm asking this is because in the txt file that comes with the 1.36 firmware it asks what is needed : "a PS2 V1-V11 with Infinity inside to prepare the Memory Card Upgrade." That sorta got me concerned.

There's a local place that sells the Matrix, but they've advised me it doesn't have the newest flash and I want to make sure I can do it myself otherwise there's AUD$100 down the drain.

Terry Bogard 31-10-2004 21:43

Anybody?

lufcfan 01-11-2004 02:31

The ones compatible with the V12s (preflashed with 1.36) have a blue dot on the Actel chip :)

DutchDemon 01-11-2004 12:27

that's not what he means lufcfan :)
he has a v12 pstwo, and he wants to get a chip in it, but he want the firmware of that chip to 1.36
his shop only sells not-upgraded matrix infinities, so he needs to have the firmware stuff on a memory card.
he was wondering, if he could use his FRIEND's ps2, modded with a magic chip, to put the firmware on the memory card, and then use that memory card to flash his matrix infinity in his own pstwo.

as for the question, i don't know if it's possible, but you could try to put the firmware on the memory card before buying the chip. if it appears on the memory card, then i guess it's working. So, like spedmetal said, give it a try (and tell us if it works or not)

H|LLJD00 01-11-2004 13:14

That works on xbox, my friend chipped his xbox and flash the 'xbox bios' then sold the chip. He put the chips bios on the actual xbox, so he got some money back, lol :)

DutchDemon 01-11-2004 13:24

lol, funny :P it's not really the same as what terry wants though...

btw, i don't think that that's possbile for the ps2, cuz the chip needs some input/output to some other hardware too (joypad, reset button) that i think the ps2 bios cant access directly. the chips for the ps2 aren't just an addon to the bios, like (i guess) the xbox chips

Terry Bogard 01-11-2004 21:10

Thanks Dutch Demon for explaining it again. I actually thought of that afterwards about trying to get the stuff onto the memory card before buying the chip, but I thought somebody might know off hand. I won't be able to get to my friends place until early next week. I was a bit worried about killing his Magic too if something went wrong.

On another note, my supplier has since emailed me saying they are going to be try modding a PStwo today and will let me know how it goes. Hopefully they would've updated the chips already. Saves me having to do it.

Oh and btw Dutch, I'm pretty savvy when it comes to Xbox modding (Noob at PS2 :p) and just for your interest, the Xbox mods are a complete bios replacement. I think the PS2 mods are just an add-on to the existing bios, at least the early mods were. The new ones might be a total replacement too.

DutchDemon 01-11-2004 22:50

as far as i know, the magic3 doesn't have anything flashable, so i dont think it's possible to mess anything up. But, you know, if it turns out to BE flashable, you should be able to flash it back to its original state too. might be a bit harder to find the original flash though :)

No the magic is not flashable, not with out an SX key or a hardware type of flashing device anyway.

Just tell your friend to download the flash himself and burn it to a disc him self and get back to you with the results. I'm pretty sure this will work as it shouldnt matter cuz your just booting a dev app really and any chip can do that, then its just writing the flash to the mem card.

I wish I had an empty mem card or I would be able to tell you if this works myself. I'm going to be picking one up tomorrow just for this reason.

WARNING: Mod chip V12 Laser Issues

Hey guys, this news just came out this week but...

The V12 apparently has an even MORE shoddy laser than v9 and v10
versions of the playstation. There have been a few scattered reports of
the lasers burning out on them.

Its not known whether this is a result of the increased power needed to read backup media or whether its caused by the chip. The articles I read mentioned the Matrix Infinity, but its probably safe to say that it affects other chips as well.

If you are planning to mod your PSTwo, then you might want to hold off till they figure out what is going on.
