Riteks from Meritline suck now, recomend something else

I just bought 100 pack of Riteks from Meritline for $38. ( good price I thought)

I have been having all sorts of problems with them. Movies stop playing in the middle of them, my PS2 and Xbox are both having trouble reading them. I think I bought a bunk batch. They are lighter than the ones I had got from them previously. Instead of the deep purple bottoms, it is a lighter, almost pink color. I never, ever, ever, had a problem with the deep purple bottoms.

Do you think I will have any problem sending them back to Meritline for a refund? I have about 90 left of the 100.

What brand should I go with now?

Meritline has a 60 day money back guarantee. "If you are not satisfied with any Ritek DVD blank media you bought from Meritline.com, simply return it in 60 days and you will get your money back!
No restocking fee!"

Cool thanks. I will send these back. Got any suggestions for a different brand?

I recently got a batch of G04's from the supermediastore and they are the ones with the dark purple dye. Guess I got lucky this time. I am going to have to check out some of these TY's as well. Ritek must have sacraficed quality for quanity. I hate it when that happens! :(

did ritek change there dye ? and wonder if ridata still has the drak pruple dye cause thats why i always use.

It happened to me too from Meritline. I bought 50 pack Ritek G04 from them and noticed that the dye was a lighter color and some of the disks had dye coating problems (i.e. pits and uneven layers of dye). I used DVD identifier to see what the disks were and they said that they were Ritek G05. Well after a few burns and no luck on a Messiah V7 machine, I returned them. They sent me real G04 back. When you do send them back make sure you specify you want the real G04 with the darker dye. Be careful with getting Taiyo Yuden from Meritline cause I read on a whole bunch of forums that they were selling fake Yuden. I hope this helps.

Yeah I got a 25 pack of that crap version GO4/GO5 light purple dyed discs that Meritline is selling. Those discs are nothing but crap. 8 coasters out of my 25 pack.

I may put a warning sticky up on this.

I think it's Meritline buying fake media???

A03 22-10-2004 23:49

Ouch...Was about to order 200 Spindle of G04 off Meritline..
Thanks for the warning..

TylerDurden 23-10-2004 08:48

Thats why I was considering making a warning sticky. Not to diss just to warn.

I was that problem. So now I use my Riteks for media backups and they work fine b/c I ain't puttin them in a ps2. for my ps2, Sony DVD-R. Work like a charm, better than any Riteks. They burn perfectly and smooth playing on the ps2. Hardly any noise, actually none compared to Riteks.

Ritek G04 Changes

I just purchased my 2nd pack of 50 of the Ritek G04. I have not tested any yet, but although the packaging is exactly the same as the first pack, Meritline did assign them a new part number. I also notice the top of the DVD no longer has Ridata name with some lines for you to write your text. These new DVDs are completely blank on the top.

The outside purple label has exactly the same UPC code and p/n though as the first order. Strange that the Ritek UPC code is the same, but Meritline assigns them a different p/n (I suppose due to the fact there is a slight difference than before).

TylerDurden 25-10-2004 21:00

Could you check them with DVDInfo?

DVD Info

I went to the DVD Info web site, but the link to download the freeware version does not seem to be working. The only link working is to get the registered version.

Do you have another suggestion for a program I can use? Or another link to download the freeware version?
