How to Copy DVD2 of Myst 4
 

Since I didnt see anyone answer this question I thought I would.

The second dvd of myst 4 is actually a dual layer dvd. This means it is too large to burn to a single layer dvd. This of course makes it difficult to make a safety copy of the game.

The solution is simple. On the dvd is a folder called "common". Inside it is a folder called "data". Inside this folder are folders for all of the six languages. Inside each is a file called "data.m4b".

Since you only need the data.m4b file for the language you will be installing, you can leave the others off of the dvd disk. This will put your dvd disk size below 4.3GB.

Thats it. Before anyone flames me for posting this for whatever reason, I only wrote this because i thought it might help some people. This may not work for other versions of the game.

However this dosen't helps 100% but I can add for the record, that doing a copy of a dual layer dvd must mean that you need a dual-layer dvd burner and a disc to burn the image from the harddriver...

I thought of that too but I don't know how to handle the protection. I made a data disk with nero with everything on it exacly like on the original (except the language packages I don't need) but it does not play. :confused:
Could someone please kinda walk me through how to copy my personal MystIV DVD so I have a backup? (I am obviously not a regular gamer/computer geek, Myst was a x-mas present and I am paranoid about braking it)

Are you referring to the crack installed on the harddrive so I don't need a copy? That would work too. I downloaded the crack. I just don't know what to do with it... :o

Which crack do you have? Have you updated the game or do you have the updates? Where did you download the crack from?

well i dont actually hve the myst game so i presume you will hve to go to the official Myst site to get the update! Which crack do you hve? Barry's or Revelations?

I downloaded all the cracks and I now also have the patch from the official site. What now? (thank you fo ryour patience!)

Sorry, I don't. I don't even have a cell phone. (Smoke signals is not good today either as it is raining ferociously here in the desert). PLus I am actually at "work" and cannot fix my game until tonight (where I have 56K connection :o )

ok, Install the game, Install the v1.2 official update, then go to the directory where the game is installed and backup the files you have in the crack.
The files which need to be backed have the same names as the ones from the crack rar. I presume it is a rar or zip file? Then just copy the cracked files to the same directory as the games original files. Or exrtact the rar files to the directory where the game is installed, overwriting the original files. Is that easy enough to understand?

if you are using 'Revelations' crack then you need to copy the M4_THOR_RD.DLL to the 'Bin' folder which is in the directory of where you installed the game.
If you are using 'Barrys' crack then you will need to replace the Myst.exe and the M4_THOR_RD.DLL files. Both files go into the Bin folder. ;)
You are only backing up the original files in case a future update comes out which needs the original files to install. If you havent backed up the original files and the future patch needs them, then you will more than likely need to reinstall the game again. ;)
And Im also guessing if you use Revelations crack then you will probably need a backup copy of the CD to play!
Whereas if you use Barrys crack then you more than likely wont need a CD to play! But that last bit is after all a guess? :)
EDIT: Ive just noticed from one of your earlier posts that you have the #2 crack. Revelations Crack! Download Barrys as well just in case! ;)

Well i certainly hope that person gave you the original disc for xmas as you earlier stated! And hope he hasnt given you just a copy!
EDIT: I am now concerned as Ive just read your posts from the other thread! Youve contradicted yourself! In this thread you mention you have the game on DVD already! In the other thread you say you have it on 2 CD's! So which is it?

Oh my God! Don't be concerned! I have the original and it is registered with Ubisoft. It comes on 2 DVDs (did I say CD? It's all round and flat to me). The person giving it to me is my better half and he legally purchased it as a Christmas present. This is my first game ever ad I love it and I am paranoid that it will break. That's all. I don't have to steal software, I can afford it.

Thank you for your help yesterday. I managed to get it to work. :cool: The only little problem I had was when I tried to unzip the crack and got an error message. After a little research I found that a *.rar is a compression also... :o (Not everybody has a computer in their krib at age 5 month). But no more worrying about screwing up the originals now! :) You guys are great!
