Are we allowed to speak of this sort of Mod on the forums i'm unsure so asking first.

The only reason I'd do a softmod, is to flash the tsop.

i wouldnt even do it. Such a pain its quicker just to get a modchip and usially cheaper :)

YES, there is soft modding...

First off, Soft Mod is not modding. Modding is opening your xbox n modifing it. Second off, Soft Modding is cheaper than modding with a Mod-Chip! Using a Mod-Chip is risky. You can get caught by Xbox Live and get you account deleted.
Soft modding is modding your xbox digitaly. You do not open your Xbox or do anything to the insides of your Xbox.

You will need...
Action Replay,
Computer,
Router,
A FTP program,
007: Agent Under Fire, Mech Assault, or Splinter Cell 2
and the exploit that will allow you to soft-mod your Xbox
Those games are the ONLY games as of right now that will get you started on soft modding.


All together this will cast you only about $25 bucks... you rent the gave for about $5 ballors, and the Action Replay is $20 at Target.

softmod is modding....the internal files, boot procedure...
it is not cheaper, you must have AR, or a copy of a game that has been exploited (splinter cell, mechassult, 007). Renting is not too typical, if you want to go online or remove it. Costs more than a standard chip, not to mention it is easier to mess up an xbox in a way that you will have to buy a chip to fix.

Using a chip is not risky. The most popular bios prevents logging onto xbox if you hit it on accident. And there is a disable switch on just about every chip. You can't even use live with a softmod, unless you want to do alot of work to remove it (which if you didn't spen 20 bucks to buy a game, you have to spend 5 more to rent one).

yea one is exploits which require no opening up
the other is flashing tsop.. that requires soldering skills and openin up
but they are faaaaaulty

Soft mod is NOT glitchy! And NOT expensive. I have softmod about 15 xbox's now and they all perform perfectly. + they all have warranty intact.

Yea,my friend and I have did 3 i really have'nt noticed any diffrence compared to my chipped Xbox as far as performance goes.
problem i see is it's a little more work than chipping.

I was going to try the HD Hot swap method someday, just for the hell of it. Doesn’t cost anything but requires the cover removed, of course.

i have a modded xbox.. i am currently awaiting an xbox i just purchased wich may be broken but if i can fix it i wouldn't mind softmodding! I could then do a review of the differences between softmodded and modded xboxs!
my question is that if i have a modded xbox is there an easier way to softmod?

Well....I am an avid Modcip supporter....BUT in the recent weeks, I have experimented with this option....The main reason is because I do not mod the boxes, my friends, friend does......And he has screwed up a bunch of them.....Which is weird....Because I HAVE done a couple and they were easy...I just don't have the time. And he already had everything you need.. Well...I leave the option up to the consumer..."aka guy who wants his box modded"

I love my Xenium ICE, because of the OS on the chip and the funtions it has....
But some people are sketchy about the opening the box thing and soldering to their $300-$200 box...Whatever they paid for it back in the day......And as far as the warranty goes.....If you load the MA,SC, or 007 hack or TSOP flash, or whatever way you decide to SOFTMOD....The warranty HAS been voided....Just not visible to the Wal-MArt or EB Games guy....Or whoever.....Any modding of the hardware or SOFTWARE is the voiding thingy....If you ever sent that box back, after you screwed up the softmod, MS would know.... So, again....you decide what is best for you....Me...I like chips.....But that's why we have options and choices...It makes it interesting... :)

If you mess something up...it is probably because you did NOT read all you could....There is ALOT that can go wrong with the softmod....If you transfer the wrong font, xbe, whatever...and you put it in the wrong place....your DONE....If you use a method that is not compatible with your Kernel or Dashboard...Your DONE!!!!!....And the only way to fix it is either get a chip or put it next to your Commodore 64 and call it a day...hehe......Hope this helps someone out there.....

Oh........If you have a modded box......then all you need is a memory card and the files in question......AR is for if you do not have a method to get the files onto the card.....With a modded box, you can ftp to the box and transfer files to the memory card and then put that card in the unmodded box. Loke for UDE or Ltools...that should get you somewhere....But again.....Keep your options open and learn to solder....Support the Modchips...If it wasn't for those companies...Where would we be? :o

i read that if i do this:
1-Get myself a copy of slayers(2.5 or 2.6 get from usual places i think)burn onto dvd-r
2-Open both xboxes
3-Make sure they both have power connected and connected to tv
4-Place the boxes close together
5-Power on my modded box until evox is on screen(harddrive is unlocked)
6-Power on problem box
7-Get ready as when 'X' logo appears with ms underneath(harddrive is unlocked)
8-Quickly whip out ide cable in prob box and swap with ide cable from modded box
9-Place slayers disc into dvd tray on modded box
10-Select install evox and apps on retail c drive
11-Slayers then copies files to c drive on unmodded box
12-When complete replace ide cables without turning off boxes
13-Reboot newley modded box and hey presto.

it should work! but what i wanna know is if i do this can i do it with any evoX dvd-r then would it be possible to ftp my C: & E: drives over to the other xbox so they are the same?

i didn't think the hdd was in use after evoX was loaded! :confused:

so if i try to do that softmod part i just described, then i should be able to boot evoX. then i wanna know if i can copy my C:, E:, D:, and F: to the softmodded xbox (from my modded xbox) and then it should work just like my modded xbox right?

alright guys.. nevermind the hotswap method.. i am prolly gonna use the mem card one.. so all i have to do is FTP my xbox with the saves i need on the PC.. transfer them to the mem card and then boot the xbox with the mem card hack? then i should transfer over my C: and E: drives and it should boot the evoX dash each time?

Final Questions
 

i have completly decided on doing a mem card way.

1.How do i transfer the whole folder (one flie plus folder??) i need to the mem card?
2.after i load the save, it loads into evoX correct? then can i just copy all my drives from my modded xbox over to the softmodded xbox?
3. If i do this, will it load the evoX dash automatically..if not how can i make it automaticaly load evoX with a softmodded xbox?

Eakinsme, it is a bit more than just loading up a save. You have to install a dashboard exploit if you do not want to load the evox save everytime. Also, you need "Pheonix Bios loader" (pbl) to load the bios, otherwise you won't be able to open the disk tray or load backups, emulators, etc..(without signing).

As for the save, you copy it onto the xbox HDD from the memory menu in the original dash, so the save loads from the HDD and not the memcard.

I think I saw an easy type tool on XB Scene for softmodding. It was made by the same guys who made Slayers. I think it was called 007SIN or somethin. Look it up.

i did see the SIN thing.. it didn't help too much..I have the save on my xbox and am gonna wait till i get my other xbox to try it out!
The thing i need answered is that after i load up evoX (after the savegame) then can i ftp over my C: and E: from my modded xbox and have it boot evoX each time?

You still need a certain original game with that method??

I tried to hot swap, using some POS app caled HDD Driver for win 2000 or XP. It searched high and low and never found the xbox drive on my PC even tho XP detected the HD. Also it said the Xbox that you're trying to softmod will spiddown the drive after 10 minutes or so, I left it for 20 min and it was still clicking away. Does MSDash really unlock the drive while it's on or what?

Also since Hot swapping to my PC didn't work I got the bright idea that I should be able to hot swap to a modded xbox, that didn't work either, error 06 I believe (HD Locked!!! :O ).

So the only way I that I've been able to softmod an xbox so far is to actually put a chip in the mobo, boot up evox on CD and FTP the softmod files then remove the chip! It only takes like 10 min to install a chip but ... got to be an easier way than all this!!!

Softmod I used was Audio exploit.

there is a ude installer that will install all that to your hdd from xbox hdd (but requires a modded xbox to put in hack. ftp to modded xbox then to mem card then copy that file on mem card to the unmodded xbox)
off subject a little anyone heard of microsoft adding protection from softmods?
using the ude installer that my friend has used on multiple xboxes with success refused to work on my refurb xbox no error codes when booting it just says call microsoft for repair.
also another strange thing is it boots all originals fine but will not boot platinum titles no ddr mesage just says this is not signed mircosoft content or some thing like that same messge ya get when popping a backup in an unmodified xbox.
anyone hear of this before?

re edit for a little more clarity it is a ver 1.0 had the original dash then upped the dash to most current still will not allow platinum games to boot or accept any soft mods at all.(refurb was inspected and repaired 12/10/04 and purchased by me on 12/17
