Help with booting matrix Infinity

I finally installed the chip after 9 hours. The ps2 boots up and i get the Matrix Infinity 1.2 logo under the Playstation logo and original games play fine but my backups don't work. I get the red screen of death. I know my backups work because I've used them before with my swap disk. What could be the problem? The only problem I encountered was connecting the SCEX wire. When I connected it, it accidently came off and took the soldering off the leg of the square thing (I have no Idea what it is :D ). So I soldered the wire back on as good as I could. Another hard part was soldering the wires on the alternate points but I think they are ok. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check them closely with a magnifier and test with a multimeter. You probably have a dry joint somewhere (Dull solder point, they should be a nice shiny silver). Best thing to do is test the point with a multimeter before you solder, then after to check you have a good connection and everything is fine. Chances are, you'll then find any dodgy points before powering up :)

My install looks pretty neat. I will take a picture on the weekend. My digital camera is in my moms house so I got to go get it. But Now I have a bigger problem  . I found the cable that was not soldered correctly. It was one of the alternate points. I think it was H or I. When I turn it on now I get a black screen. The trays and the lights turn on fine but it just stays black. I also have the controller on joy 1. I tried with a original and a backup and no luck. Any Ideas?

Have you soldered the alt. back correctly?

JPunisher 24-09-2004 11:26

I checked with the multimeter before I put it back together and it seemed alright. Should the problem be there?

JPunisher 24-09-2004 11:43

Spedmetal says it should be one of the alt points shorting out with another. I'll resolder all of them again to be sure.

As process of elimination, it could well be there if it worked before this wire was loose. If not, check the BIOS pins (Known for Black Screens), and if it still won't work, uninstall the chip and then try it. Hopefully it'll power on alright then ;)

Can you tell me which letters are the bio pins?

lufcfan 25-09-2004 02:17

M,N,O,P

You might also want to check Q,T,U,V,R&W

If that doesn't work and the alts are OK, I'd uninstall, check the console is working fine and then redo...

lol well now i think i have the same problem as you....when i turn on my system i have to actually press reset for it to start loading everything. ps2 original works fine. but nothing else... i tried ps1backup.nothing. only ps2 originals ;\

I already got this fixed. Thanks everyone. Do you get the matrix infinity logo under the playstation logo? If you do, then check your alternate points.
