ok i read a post earlyer about a slow burner 107d,i have the same burner,now u said to get a hacked firmware for it,i was just wondering is there any risk using this,
also i use verbatim media can i get go4 media in australia and is it cheaper than verbatim.
verbatim 4x 1 disc $2.95 aud
verbatim 8x 1 disc $3.95 aud
sorry one more question,i just tried some 8x and it didnt make it any quicker is that because the burner is locked at 2x.

Ok, the firmware hack is pretty much as safe as the official releases that Pioneer posts.

The burns are pretty darn good anyways. Ive been using the hacked firmware a week after I bought this drive and have had plenty of sucess and savings $$-wise.

Now if your using 8x media already and cant reach the speeds of an 8min burn then your current firmware may need changing anyways. This hacked version is basically the latest version of the Pioneer firmware with the speed settings taken off. So more than likely your 8x media will burn better as well. Plus youll be able to burn GO4 at 8x so you can save the next time you buy blanks.

one last question my father has just starting out backing up,he got a new burner of ebay i think its called new,it takes him 4 to 5 hours to back up.
i used to own the computer hes using its old but when i had it, i used the first pioneer burner and it only took me 1 hour 40 mins max.
any advice on how to make this faster for him.

Well first off Id need to know more about the drive, like model and make. Then we gotta check for hacked firmware for it. Not all drives have speed firmware hacks. Most just have region free.

ok ill talk to him tonight and try and get that info for you.
i downloaded the cracked firmware from the link you had,i extracted the files
they are a read me text file,and two R7100007.116 files do i just double click both of them and thats it,cause in the read me file it says something about flashing do i have to do that.

i got dvrflash read alot at that site and read more read me files from dvrflash.i dont think i should try this i dont know half the stuff i read so i think i should give it a miss

Everything Tyler is telling you is 100% correct! You can however purchase the 4x Princo discs in Australia. (I'm presume you can buy them also in Tassie, I'm in Aus but not Tas)They are cheaper than the Riteks but work just as well. I too have the same Pioneer 107D and the same 1.16 FW hack and have never had a problem and have been using them for a few months now.
Go on give it a go its not as hard as it sounds. Not that you will need to but it is fully reversable! You will definately be happy with the results as you wont need to pay for the 8x blanks! You will be able to burn 4x disc at 8x!
And 'nfo' is just the fancy way of saying 'info'. :) Just open the 'nfo' files with Notepad.

ok i tried again today no luck,this is what i did.
first downloaded the dvd-107 v1.16 - rpc-1 +12xrip + nx4all
next downloaded dvrflash v1.2
next extracted the win32 to the same folder as the patches
last went to start,programs,accessories,command prompt and typed DVRFlash -vf E: R7100007.116 R7100107.116 and pressed enter.
DVRFlash' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
thats it no go
also checked my burner prop
prolific pl3507 combo device (1394 atapi_rev 1.00) ieee 1394 sbp2 device
also did a search for aspi32 came up with 3 search results
does that mean i have been doing the wrong thing

Try putting DVR Flash in a folder in your C: directory. Call it Flash Folder or something. Then direct to it in Dos.

Also make sure DVR Flash is looking for the correct Drive letter.

ok i put DVRFlash in C:/Flash Folder,then i went to command prompt and tried again no luck
what command should i be typing in, and should i put the R7100007 and R7100107 files in the same place i put DVRFlash

hmm doesn't sound like it :p

Follow this:

cd\ *This will make you go to C:\ automatically.*
cd Flash Folder * This will open the following folder*

Now you type in the filename :)
Im not 100% sure about the filename, as I do not have a dvd burner on my pc atm, but I do on my dads.. Maybe I will get the info for that and get a better firmware. But its been fine so far. But only 2x :|

is there some where to check the firmware version

The easiest way is to just open any burning program that you have. Most will list the firmware being used by the burner next to it.
