Error 07 HDD problem

Hi Guys,
Have had Xbox modded for about a week with a xecuter 2.3b lite plus modchip running Evolutionx v3935. Last game played was gta3. Now when i turn on the xbox with the modchip off the led flashes red. Comes with error 07. When modchip on comes up with Harddrive error. I am unable to boot ms dash or evox dash. Is there anyway to fix this.
Thanks for any help in advance.

David88 06-08-2004 20:59

No, I have no lights in my xbox.
Is there any way to fix this problem?

Is your hard drive the original one that came with your xbox or did you put a larger one in?

Well, infedelity and I both had this problem. Mine was pretty rescent though. Anyways, I turned on my xbox with the cathode flicked on, and my hdd wasn't booting. I then clicked the cathode off and rebooted, but for some reason the HDD still wasn't booting properly. I ended up removing the cathode and it worked just fine after that. I put it back in, but never have it on ever anymore...unless Im showing off.

David, do you hear the HDD spinning at all? Or feal it vibrating (very lightly).

David88 07-08-2004 23:11

Hard drive is dead. It is not vibrating or making any noises. It is the original Xbox Hard drive. I wish to upgrade now that it has died. I forgot to backup my xbox hard drive however my friend backed up his. Will I be able to use the data from that on my new Xbox Hard drive. Any help is most apppreciated.

Well, I would first suggest to unplug the HDD, then plug it back in again and try it.

If you are going to do an HDD upgrade, and cannot get a hold of the dashboard files, look for something called "slayers auto installer 2.5". It will partition your drive, and install the evox/MS dashboards for you.

Interesting, but Ive never had a prob. I have a cathode runnin and never had a prob with my hdd. But mainly the reason I asked is because I was concerned for my own system. I will be keepin an eye on it.

Yah, I first thought that infedelity had a defective cathode until it happened to me. I guess some might steal too much power when booting.

When cathodes are turned on, a large spike of voltage is needed to get that gas started. The xbox booted with that error, but the HDD seemed to be running. My guess is that when the cathode first booted, it took too much power, which caused the HDD to boot less than a second too late, at least late enouph for the bios to read no HDD. Was bad timing, that's all.

TylerDurden 08-08-2004 17:31

Thats a very interesting theory. In my case, I actually have my cathode dialed down a bit. I didnt like it when it was maxed out. Maybe thats a better idea when using cathodes.

Thanks Quall,
So I simply plug in the new Harddrive, andwith the modchip on run slayers auto install off a CD and it will set everything up for me? Is there anything I have to look out for when buying a new Harddrive?
All help is greatly appreciated.

Quall999 09-08-2004 12:12

basically, yah. Slayers auto install is just evox, with selections for you to choose from. One might be install MS dashboard, another is format drives. I personally have never used it, but it seems to get alot of praise.

As for HDD's, first, you must choose the bios for your chip. I would suggest X2_4981, but there are 2 versions.

x2_4981_06 = Partition F holds all you availanle space, up to 250gb, all extra space is disguarded
x2_4981_67 = Partition F only holds 137gb of space, but anoteher partition G is added for the remaining ammount.

If you get anything smaller than 250gb, then get the 06 bios. Then choose your HDD. The only things you have to watch out for is if it is lockable, most 20-200gb ones are. It can be 7200 or 5400 rpm's, but it doesn'tt matter much. 7200 rpms are faster (when in a pc, not xbox), but will generate more heat. Vise versa for 5400's. That's really all you have to watch out for. I'd go to tigerdirect.com and check out their sales on hard-drives. They have them quite often.

David88 10-08-2004 02:42

I never plan to us Xbox live so does it matter if it is lockable or not?

Quall999 10-08-2004 15:49

nope, locking is only needed to play on xbox live, or with the modchip turned off (which is usually because of xbox live.

David88 11-08-2004 03:26

Will the link to the MSdash from evox still work with a non-lockable Hardrive?

Quall999 11-08-2004 06:46

Everything will work just the same as long as your chip is on.
