What we want in the PS3

Thought it might be fun to get everyones ideas as to what the PS3 should have and be able to do. What can I say (shrug) its a boring day at work!

To get the ball rolling:

It should have built in harddrive and ethernet adapter.

All ps3 games should be harddrive installable.

The browser screen should include the harddrive with some sort of front end similar to HDLoader.

PS3 memory cards shouldn't be needed as all save files could go on the harddrive

Should be backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games ( could have a "virtual ps1/ps2 memory card" on the harddrive)

Should be able to play dvd movies/VCD/SVCD/DivX/Xvid/MP3/JPG discs.

Any more suggestions?

2.4GHz Tranceiver cordless controllers :)

ottoman 30-06-2004 05:05

Now we is talkin!!! ;)

ottoman 30-06-2004 05:39

Maybe taking technology from the PSX unit to enable the unit to record tv progs onto the harddrive and pause live tv etc. I know that sony are plannin to make the ps3 a bit more multimedia but there ideas sound way ott. At the end of the day its a games machine but it doesn't hurt to have a few extras thrown in !

iamamp3pimp 30-06-2004 05:41

chippable faster than the ps2 was>???????

puppeteer666 30-06-2004 08:48

$299 price point.

FreeFighter 30-06-2004 12:51

Should be Blu-ray Disc, DVD and CD compatible.

Hopefully they will spend a few more bucks on the lasers.

lufcfan 30-06-2004 19:02

I'll say :)

This would be my biggest hope as well!

Oh also the wireless remote lufc spoke of should support 4 players.

Able to surf the web from it.

I have 2 of the Logitech 2.4 GHz cordless PS2 controllers. They work flawless. Not a single problem. There more money then the other junk ones out there but are worth the extra.

I wouldnt do with out them..

TylerDurden 30-06-2004 22:11

The only thing I hate about cordless controllers is having to buy batteries. Now if those controllers had a rechargeable port on the ps3 then that would be nice.

I not havin a pop at u but does it really need to be able to surf the net? When theres a pc that can surf it in practically every house anyway. I admit on line gaming is a must but being able to surf the net too might be a bit unnecessary.

Have just recieved a bad reputation point for being a "Hater"??!! If the above comment came over as a bit brash I appologise Sped. Was not intention to offend. Was just thinking from a view of keeping ps3 unit price down. Appols to whoever it is who thinks I'm a hater!

spedmetal 01-07-2004 00:28

Yeah you’re right it would just be cool if it did. You see I'm a lazy ass and if I’m sitting on the couch and see a add with a .com info it would be cool to just flip on the console and there it is with out having to get off my ass and go in the other room....not needed though your totally right.

skub 01-07-2004 00:50

HD-DVD capable (not just blu-ray) and the ability to play PSP games/UMD disks.

Fair one. c where yr coming from. perhaps a coffee maker/vodka and iron brew dispenser on the side too. That way I'd never get off the sofa again! :D

lufcfan 01-07-2004 06:07

I agree - 4 players would be great, I never thought of that - Great suggestion Sped :) . My suggestion came from the Logitech Cordless Controller I have at the moment. Everyone should have one - In one word - Stunning! :)

ottoman 16-07-2004 12:15

Another thought. All the firmware should be flash upgradable. That way if we get another ps2 v.9 sudden death syndrome problem it could be cured by as simple flash update rather than having to lift a chip leg and solder on an extra wire!

Also handy for dvd player firmware updates etc..... :)

eakinsme 16-07-2004 13:10

like the v9/10 ps2s it should have a remote with on/off switch, not a nessicity but possible neons already installed (with your choise of colour), and possible wireless keyboard and headset for the on-line gamers??

This would take the fun out of modifying your own console. I mean it would be like a custom car builder buying one of those so called "Factory Hot Rods" like the Prowler. I would look at it like, "Big deal I can change the little blinking light that came from the factory to a new color with the push of a button…wooo hooo!!." Unless I did it myself it would just be another useless feature that no one really gave a crap about. Just my 2 cents.

Although the keyboard and head set is a very good idea.

puppeteer666 16-07-2004 16:14

i take back the price point wish, charge more for insanely excellent lasers that do not die quickly!!!!the end of the dreadded DRE and rsod(cry, cry)
maybe throw in a nice slot for a plug and play mod-chip;)
plus maybe a really hot chick to dance for me naked when i purchase it.(throw in a lapdance i would buy 2 of them)

100% Agreed!!!

ottoman 16-07-2004 19:55

Oh, am i gettin moist over this!!!!!! Sod it, i'm building this machine myself. Anyone care to invest about $50,000,000 in me??? :D

P.S If the PS3 did have all above mentioned extras then who wouldn't pay £500 for it???? Talk about perfect console, Sony should be employing us as imagination designers!!!! :p

An by the way........DUH!!!!!!

I thought that was really intelligent suggestion!!! but instead the masses go for flashy extras like power steering and airbags/wireless keyboards!!!

Hello!!! Wouldn't it be good if u could flash yr Version 1 PS3 to be a version 5 PS3 etc....U get the idea...

I demand acknowledgement!! :D

P.S Yep, I know I double posted. Sry but am a bit ****ers as I type an brain becoming fuzzy :) . Bighap/tyler, please knock one off my posting no.!!

crazygamelover 16-07-2004 20:27

Hey, no one mentioned all of the games already being installed so we only have to pay the one time $1,000,000,000,000etc... for all of the before mentioned. :p :D

eakinsme 16-07-2004 20:28

do we realy need a ps3?? like honestly the ps2 is an amazing machine.. if we could get to save games on the HDD (saves and complete games) without any problems then i wud just prefer to keep the ps2.. some of these upgrades (keyboard, headset, cordless controlers) are all possible with ps2.. besides autos big ps3 flashing (v1-v5) it wud be perfect with the hdd compatibility.. I am sure they will keep bringing games out that are larger and beter(graphics and gameplay) they should still be able to fit on a 9gb dual layer disk!!
anyone agree with me on the subject.. Why not save a few bucks on a new machine when the ps2 is still an amazing machine??

eakinsme 16-07-2004 20:34

also.. the only prob with the ps2s now are the poor lasers..but with programs such as HDL_DUMP we dont use the laser much..
anyone agree with me on the subject?

TylerDurden 16-07-2004 20:50

Yes we need a ps3.

Otto.... your a little frisky today.... did you have to many beers tonight! Anyway we will probably never see a feature like you are suggesting because Sony would think that the flash feature could be exploited by the hacking scene to bypass their copyright protection and unsigned code and all that blah blah....

Nice idea though.

Regarding to the Blue Disc Situation, I believe I heard about it while back from $ony's mouth that they're using it for PS3..Also I did hear that it was PS1-2 backwards compatible..
Blue Laser Burner will be out for sale sometime soon so you can bet that in X amount of time All of us should be able to back up the games at ease..
Only thing I did hear was Like Xbox games you cannot insert the Disc right into the Disc drive make image and copy..So assuming that Copy protection has to be circumvented..But once again Anything Human Made,Human Broken I say..
HD Idea would be interersting, $ony should take the Idea from M$ and save themselves from selling Memory Card's..But We're talking about $ony here so all of us will end up purchasing memory cards..
Last Like I did with the current PS2(V10) I will not be Purchasing on Day 1 nor till price drops and waiting till at least 2-3 Versions later so that I don't have to worry about breaking down easily..I had so many of my friends who purchased PS2 V1-V4 that broke down after so many months that they ended it up buying Xboxes(which they're fairly more than happy with since The Xbox Modchip scene came around)..
My .02 Cents here..

MoBiUs 17-07-2004 01:04

PlayStation 3 to use Blu-Ray disc been confirmed: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/08...s_6104095.html

crazygamelover 04-08-2004 13:09

Interesting article there Freefighter! ;)

I wonder if they will be able to incorporate the ability to play current DVD's and PS2 games. That remains to be seen. I sure hope so.

ottoman 04-08-2004 13:14

well, bluray uses a blue laser which while having a shorter wavelength, is still capable of reading cds and dvds so there is no reason why not. Also opens up possibilities of Bluray to dvd rips of ps3 games. :D

Interesting. Bluray rips onto one or more Dual Layered DVD's.

Your ideas are all exellent and Im not gonna repeat them so here are mine:

- drivers to enhance its graphics d/loadable form the net or built-into games... PS3 driver utility v.1 , 2, 3 etc

- A cooler console desing. Current ps2 desing suck... It would have this silver finish like stainless stell and some really bright bluish leds... something like the japanese version DVD playing Gamecube! That console remains to be my favorite console desing ever...

- A more confortable, fighting game friendly D-pad. Current Dpad make my thumbs hurt playing fast versus games like Third Strike and Guilty Gear. Saturn controller and classic 6 button array is just beautiful. :p

- No ugly opening tray that will get broken easly, give me the push disk option found on car radios

*WARNING! really STUPID IDEAs AHEAD!*

- The controller would have light on buttons like Simon and that particular game built in the console a la Snail Maze game built into the Sega Master System.

- A car lighter adapter made by Sony when you want to play PS3 on the road! (the console would connect to the GPS screen using radio signals)

- Voice regonizion. This would ensure that no one play your PS3 without your permission!

- backup compatibility out of the box

- an option in wich you can see the remaining life of the lens. Its start in 100% then goes to 99%, 98%. when it reaches 0% a message will appear telling you that the lens will no longer work and that you need part number XXX and then it will give step by step instruccions in how to disassemble you console and change the old lens.

Actually this idea would save Sony money and hassle in units that they know is a busted lens and the team in chage of changing lenses (a division in Sony) would no longer be needed.

- Proteccion for games scoring less than 5 consisting of message displaying *This game has scored less that 5 in Gamerankings.com. The game cannot run. If problem persist please contact Sony Game Quality Deparment inmedietly*

- Ability to run PS1, PS2, PSP, Gamecube and Xbox games out of the box

- a 9 1/2 month warranty. (The expected time that the lens will work properly)

hmmm... some are really stupid but Im gonna post them anyways...

TylerDurden 06-08-2004 19:27

Very interesting idea's. I personally like the radio push a disc in one.

Who cares if some ideas are dumb. The best ideas are sparked off the insperation of dumb ones.
