Somebody Must hate me...

Well, I had planned upon modding my ps2 this weekend, but due to Console-Corners incompetant system, they refused my credit card twice and never notified me, so I never got the chip ordered. I came across Premods.com and am curious if they are any good. Their Magic V chip is cheaper, but I'm weary of clones and copies on the net.

TylerDurden 18-06-2004 16:07

You can check out Installers Sticky for the best rated installers from members of this site. Im sure some of them do premods as well.

Tyler!

DownwardSpyral 18-06-2004 16:21

I dont want a premod. i want a Magic V chip for my Version 9 Ps2. Is Premods.com a good site to buy from?

lufcfan 18-06-2004 17:10

I've heard its a pretty good site...

Tyler!

Try this suggestion first before you make any hasty decisions. Its very informative and reliable. You will not be misdirected nor will any of us give you bad advice, however its up to you. We are all friends in gaming here.
We are only here to help. ;)
BTW where are you located?

DownwardSpyral 18-06-2004 22:19

Sorry if i sounded angry earlier. I had taken time off and made plans to complete this project over the weekend, but those went awry. I have checked the sticky, but the only site that has an incredible record is Norcalmods, and they don't sell just chips.

And I'm located in Nebraska

crazygamelover 18-06-2004 22:27

try this site. http\\www.modchip.ca

Warlock 19-06-2004 09:01

You will get a better price from www.divineo.com

DownwardSpyral 19-06-2004 15:41

Modchip.ca is rediculously expensive.

Divineo has a 5k6, and i'm not sure if itll work in my ps2. does it work on ALL version 9 ps2s?

seaneyb2003 19-06-2004 15:54

no you need a 50k

DownwardSpyral 19-06-2004 21:11

Well, I guess i'll go with Premods.com since Divineo no longer carries the 50k... or am i missing something?

Warlock 20-06-2004 09:11

Contact them by email.

seaneyb2003 20-06-2004 09:19

or email www.norcalmods.com they used to sell mods by themselves.

Very reliable. Definitely worth an email. Not sure if they sell the chips alone but theres only one way to find out.

seaneyb2003 20-06-2004 12:24

i remember he used 2, Always worth trying

lufcfan 20-06-2004 12:50

Yeah they did. He might sell you one by e-mail or whatever though, if you ask nicely, lol! ;)

spedmetal 20-06-2004 14:35

I'm sorry guys, but I don’t sell chips by them selves any more.

seaneyb2003 20-06-2004 15:02

oh well atleast we tried hehe. Other wise go for www.divineo.com or www.modchips.cc

spedmetal 20-06-2004 15:06

modchips.cc doesn’t seam to be selling chips anymore

seaneyb2003 20-06-2004 15:07

Really! ah i thought they did. They seemed to i remember hullchiper saying this a few months back but they said it was the site if i remeber??? but oppps any sites u reccomend then sped for this guy to get his magic v?

DownwardSpyral 21-06-2004 14:27

I appreciate the help so far. divineo doesnt have a 50k any more. so my only real option since Console Corner stinks (and for some reason doesnt have modchips in the store anymore) is Premods.com.

seaneyb2003 21-06-2004 14:37

just get a dms3 then or a matrix infinity if u seriously want a mod that badly.

crazygamelover 21-06-2004 17:12

why not try a seach on the web for "PS2 modchip" and see what you find that way?
There is a great deal of results you can explore. ;)

ebay has some but not sure how reliable they would be though.

spedmetal 21-06-2004 17:52

try www.foundmy.com

Did you consider that it may be canadian currency?

seaneyb2003 22-06-2004 04:29

lmao yea .ca is a cannadian site hehe :) yea foundmy.coms good they are an official reseller of the duo mod chip. Go take a look at that.

DownwardSpyral 22-06-2004 05:33

Is the Duo 2 just as good as the Magic V?

I don't want to buy a DMS3 because I've heard they are a royal pain to install, and for the price, i'll pay for so much more functionality than i need. In the end, if i really need it, ill just buy it later to replace what I have at the time.

Foundmy.com is also located in Canada, and shipping isn't pleasant. 10 bux for 6 day shipping? 25 for next day? cmon. This weekend man!

seaneyb2003 22-06-2004 05:41

lol yea hehe, well duo 2 ive never tested the duo 2 i do however have a duo in my v7 and had no problems so i dont see if there are any issues go to the duo 2 review. i know its a good modchip.

puppeteer666 22-06-2004 07:04

i ordered the duo2 to try out looks nice, there's a review in here for that chip but it's a v10 i have a v9 i gotta mod.

DownwardSpyral 22-06-2004 14:34

well. ill grab a duo2 then. Anyone have any diagrams for it?

lufcfan 22-06-2004 17:17

Diagrams:
www.duochip.com

DownwardSpyral 23-06-2004 03:11

holy cow. giant! excellent!

Whats this strange thing I hear about V9 and v10 LA chip syndrome?

Is it something I should worry about?

puppeteer666 23-06-2004 07:29

i've heard about that also and i have had a v9 (ntsc) for awhile with 0 issues.
and the chip i have in mine is a clone i'm pretty sure.

lufcfan 23-06-2004 07:38

I'll say. I think Mr.Puppeteer has had the Romeo mod done or is just very, very lucky :)

Basically, if you install the chip, you need to lift a few legs on the LA chip and solder them to a point via a link wire to the mobo. Search around the board there's a fair bit on it, or look on google to find some more detailed instructions. It needs to be done because the V9's (and I think V10's) receive too much current through the supply and blow. This mod reroutes the supply to a safer voltage and your console will live.

puppeteer666 23-06-2004 08:03

romeo what is that? luck quite possible.i'm going to mod another v9 with a duo2 without any leg and wire and run the hell out of it!

then again the main reason i modded my ps2 was not for backup play mostly divx.i do play my backups once in awhile but it's hours in gaming vs playing divx can not compare.

lufcfan 23-06-2004 08:37

I don't think it matters how much its on for, if it gets too much current for any length of time, it's gonna blow... ;)

Correct.

Read my post here http://www.fileforums.com/showthread...threadid=56313 it will explain it all.

DownwardSpyral 24-06-2004 00:12

maybe im just blind, but I'm having a hell of a time trying to see which one is Pin17 on the LA chip.. according to the pic spedmetal provided in a previous post, its the 3rd from the bottom? http://www.norcalmods.com/graphix/romeo-mod-v10.jpg

granted, that pic is from a v10. my v9 will probably look like this: http://www.duomodchip.com/english/in...tect_large.jpg

spedmetal 24-06-2004 00:14

Yes your right its the 3rd from the bottom on the right side. Make sure you use the right 5V source.

theced man 24-06-2004 09:35
