Propeller Arena
i found it on the internet for download in cdi selfboot format, released by bellok.
has anyone burned it already? i wonder if it's complete or have save implemented, what's keeping me away of halflife... |
It has a save feature and is the FINAL/GOLD version.
|
So whats lurking around on groups is not hoax..?
Hm very interesting, I'm not surprised its the final gold version as the only reason this game is canned was sept 11. |

Good, well I burned it and tested it on my m8's DC. It goes to the SEGA screen (with the Megalex signature). Then the screen goes black and the DC is going to load a few seconds, suddenly it stops and a few seconds later it goes back to the DC Bios... anyone?
btw. Before burning I used PAL patcher and patched the 50 hz code away, does this have anything to do with it? |
I was reading the nfo.
belokk or Megalexx, can you tell us what kind of protection did you find on PA? I am curious... |
roBX: I could be wrong but I don't think you ever needed to patch the game in the first place (I'm pretty sure that's why it doesn't work now, btw)... From what I heard it works on both PAL and NTSC consoles.
Regarding the protection, I heard it's much the same as Confidential Mission, with the added twist that one of the hex codes you usually search for (a long word, or 4 bytes) turned out to be split into two words of 2 bytes each, with another 2 bytes separating them. Megalexx was the one who discovered that little nasty and got PA to finally boot. :D |
It was a 50hz code so i thought lets patch it because i am allergic to 50hz display. Anywayz no problemo I still got the rars on the PC and i'll burn it w/o patching this time, then I can see if it works tomorrow soon enough.
|
Don't patch that 50/60 Hz code !
It's a country check, and it's needed. I've let the 50/60 Hz selector at boot time. |
say, Megalexx, you have another 1ST_READ.BIN for PA that's pre-hacked for a much higher LBA than 11702, right? Could you toss me this one? I want to make a properly dummied image :) It turns out that Belokk made a mistake with the bdms-pa release, it's dummied but the dummy is at the end of the image where it's useless. And I wanna go all the way and use the audio track for dummying instead of adding a big file. :)
(When I do that, will I also have to binhack all of the other bins inside the DP3, etc. folders again?) |
i saw another 1st_read.bin in the CD:\TOOL folder, what is it?
|
Wow this is some leet release, its clear that this one was ready for retail. And this wouldn't be a bad buy it it were.
But this seems like a PAL release, since it has a 50/60 selector (or is this built in?). What seems to be funny to me is that it supports SEGANET instead of Dreamarena.. while Seganet is only used in the US....? Would be a blast online tho. |
I was also wondering what that \TOOL folder is.
When you quit the Browser it returns to the BIOS menu, not to the game. I think this happens because the game is LBA 45000 and the browser 11700? |
Quote:
yup, if you add a larger audio track in the 1st session, the lba will be different for the 2nd session. then you have to binhack the bootbins to that lba. |
I know that... The IP.BIN and 1ST_READ.BIN are obvious... What I wasn't sure about were the other bins... the browser stuff, that mysterious 1st_read.bin inside the TOOL folder, etc... :P |
what you can do is do a text search on all the *.bin files for " CD001 ". since the lba is 11702 on the disc, look to ee if the bins have an lba of 11702. usually its maigo.bin, sg_dpldr.bin. in the dp3_us folder or whatever, you can binhack the 1st_read.bin, maigo and sg_dpldr.bin. idk about the bin in the tool folder. just open it in a hex editor and see if the lba is 11702. if it is, binhack it.
i will also re-selfboot this thing to lba 45000 so it goes back ot the game when you exit the browser. and a new dummy that is placed in the start of the cd. |
What a great surprise this game has turned out to be.
Can we play online with this sucker or what? I'm under the impression that any official SEGA servers are closed now, but I'd assume that there must be a way for us to play online... Jive3D wants to shoot YOU down! |
hrb, good idea to stick with LBA 45000, I hadn't thought about the browser-returning-to-game thing. We can use both a longer audio track to get the 45000 offset AND a dummy file for the data track to make the ultimate PA version :)
Thanks for your reply! |
da1m0n - you're name sure comes up a lot in reference to this game on other boards.
I posted this elsewhere, but since it seems that you are trying to make an ultimate version of PA - I noticed this with my version - %90 of the The music audio seems to come from left speaker and %90 of the sfx & dialogue seem to come from the right speaker. I know that it is not my stereosetup. I might as well as here too, since these boards usually have people who know what they are talking about - any chance we get to play online? or is that a far cry... |
well, i tried to selfboot with lba 45000, but it hung at the sega logo. o_O
|
I would have bet that. ;)
|
nah, i've tryed to selboot in echelon's sb method, used an audio.raw and cdrwin, got a lba 11700. added a 250mb dummy.
i done everything as ever i did and the game goes past sega logo and hangs... nah, i'm without disc juggler now and mounted the cdi in daemon tools, copyed the disc with nero and everything goes right. now i would like to see some game codes, maybe hidden planes or maps  |

so how do i get this to boot at lba 45000?
|
nevermind, i got it to boot at 45000. same way as SSF2X. but wasnt able to exit back to the game from the browser. i left the maigo and sg_dpldr unhacked.
but i think i know why. one of the sg_dpldr or maigo bins has a reference to 2_dp.bin, which should be the web browser, but the name of the bootbins in the dp3 folders is 1st_read.bin, not 2_dp.bin. i dont know if this has anything to do with it, but i guess we'll have to figure this out....??? |
pleeeeeeeeeeeease, some codes/review/faqs woudn't hurt anyone :)
|
hrb2k, how did you get PA to boot from 45000 - it was my understanding that the main 1st_read.bin needed to be rehacked manually and just running binhack on it was not sufficient. Am I misinformed?
Masterman, read here :) http://www.the-nextlevel.com/features/propeller_arena/ |
yes, the main 1st_read.bin has to be manually hacked. open it in a hex editor and do a hex string search for " 5C2E0000 ". only one instance should come up. change it to " 6EB00000". which is 45166 - 166 = 45000.
if you binhack the other bins, be sure to binhack the main 1st_read.bin last. |
UPDATE: i successfully made a properly dummied, fully working disc of Propeller Arena. the dummy file is at the start of the disc and it now returns to the game after you exit the browser, but the gd drive grinds alot loading the index.htm of the browser. too bad i don't have the sorttxt.txt of the gd-r.... ;)
i booted it at lba 45000. and i had to hack the maigo.bins and sg_dpldr.bins. do a hex search for " 5C2E0000 " in the bins and change them to " 6EB00000 ". also, one of the maigo.bins needs to be hacked again at another address. i forget where, but its right before the previous instance of 5C2E0000. do a compare of the maigo in the root and in the dp3_us folder. i think the one in the root is unhacked, but i'm not sure. just copy the root maigo.bin to the dp3_us folder. good luck. ;) |

btw, i wish streests of rage 4 had the same luck of PA... |

Thanks very much, hrb2k and Megalexxx :D
|
So, did anyone find out what the tool folder is for?
And I wonder if there is any other game with both US and JP browsers in it. |
ahh, thanks for the sort, Megalexxx.!! :D
|
thank you Megalexxx
Ive been to busy with school lately, you mean PA was ripped & released unsorted?? its hard to believe that anyone can be that lame |
I don't mean anything.
I've just made my own version of PA, and I used this sort text. It's the original one. Belokk & DCP made a real great work ! We wouldn't have played PA without them. |
Hey Megalexxx nice touch on getting the game to run on both 50Hz full screen [the image is much sharper] or 60Hz, I wish I could do the same to some of my games to run in 50Hz full screen and not with borders or 60Hz, even tho all my TVīs are multinorm :]
|
I might help.
Which games ? |
I donīt know so many, basically US and Jap games are the ones ones who could use this treatment since most PAL DC games already run fine ;) So you can try anygame you like, but REZ is really the game that could use that improvement, the problem is that it already has a selector but it boots the game to either 50Hz (with black borders) or 60Hz NTSC :/
|
I'm not sure if it will work, but this might fix internet support in PA :
1st_read.bin : _ replace FF FF FF 00 96 00 00 00 by FF FF FF 00 4C 2E 00 00 Maigo.bin : _ replace 5E B0 00 00 by 4C 2E 00 00 _ replace 6E B0 00 00 by 5C 2E 00 00 Sg_dpldr.bin : _ replace 6E B0 00 00 by 5C 2E 00 00 |
