Connecting my XBOX to my pc
Ok, i'm having trouble connecting the two up. I've read all the newbie guides and i can't seem to figure it. I have set both my computer and the xbox to static ips. I am using a cross-over cable so i can directly connect them. Both lights come on at each connection. But when i try to ping the xbox or use flashfxp to connect to the xbox, i get a time out message. What am i doing wrong? BTW, both xbox and computer are on the same network, pc ip - 192.168.0.2
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 default gateway - 192.168.0.1 xbox ip - 192.168.0.157 subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 default gateway - 192.168.0.1 i'm not sure what version of evox i have, i got it with slayer's auto installer v2.5. So whatever version comes with that, i think its pretty new. Anyhelp would be great. |
Try setting your Xbox default gateway IP to 192.168.0.157 (same as your Xbox IP)
I've read on xbox-scene that this may work :) It is also how I have my PC>Xbox network set up :) |
i never hadda change it..
. |
well i just went to the evo x menu read off the ip typed in the password and ip and logged in no sweat.
|
theyre both static right?

Ok, thanks for all the replies. I set the defualt gateway on the xbox to the same as the ip, but it didn't work. Still getting time-out messages. I'm begining to think i've tried nearly every basic combination of ip addresses. Is there anything else i can do?? Is there any site that deals in depth with these problems?? (Besides this one :) ) Could it be a problem with my computer? I network my computer all the time with friends, so i don't know why it would be, but hey, hwat do i know. Any help would be great.

Oh, and another thing, don't know if it means anything, when i turn on my xbox, when it is connected to my computer. At first, the network connection goes, "Local area connection unavaliable, invalid IP address". But it says that for like 2 seconds if that. And then it says the network is working fine. ???? Beats me

Under FlashFXP site settings, select "options" and make sure that "Use Passive" is unchecked.
|
Ok, I tried that and it still didn't work. I can't ping the xbox ip address either.
|
do u have xp. i hope you got ur ip address on static beacause i done that thismornin i couldnt connect because the ip address changed.
|
Yeah both IPs are on static. No i don't have XP i've got windows server 2003. Would that be the problem?
|
hmm i donno ive never used windows server 2003 can u go to my network places and then go to network connections you need to change the tcp/ip settings.
|
Yeah, you can do all that. Its pretty much the same layout as XP. Should the DNS servers be set to 0.0.0.0 on my xbox if the dns server on my pc is set to 192.168.0.1? Is there anything else i can change?
|
copy the ip and dns stuff from ur evox.ini and it be cool.
|
Hmm, you mean the default settings when i install evox? I tried that, didn't work either.
The xbox ip was 192.168.1.200 netmask was 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1 and i changed my pc to be on the same network but it still didn't work. Maybe i should try installing xp? |
maybe go for it.
check the ip again because u might of disabled static ip addresses so all it needs doing is updating |
Changing the OS will not fix this problem. Huge majority of Xbox networking problems are addressing mistakes. I would start there.
Paul advised you to make the Xbox gateway the same address as listed for Xbox but is the PC and it's gateway set to the same address? It looks like you might be trying to use 2 different addresses for the PC. |
