Pioneer 107?
hey guys i was just checking out my computer online store and i came acrosse a Poineer 107... i was only aware of the 106/A06 before now. what is the difference between the drives? what are the advantages of the 107?
|
The 107 is an 8x burner. You can read about it here
|
i would buy an a06/106 instead. they r cheaper and the a07 will be hell more expensive. it will also be hard to find reliable 8x media for a while. so i would wait on it or buy a 106/a06.

I'll be happy with a firware update :D
|
hehe yea me to hull chipper
@ hull long time no see :) |
can they make a 4x burner burn at 8x if so that would be bad ass :D

It would also defeat the purpose of making an 8x burner and trying to sell it. Tyler! |
Well pioneer has shown us that an A06 can be upgraded with just a firmware to burn dual layer disc at the recent ces...
Liteon dvd burners can also be upgraded to 8x burning just by upgrading the firmware... so...anything might be possible m8s |
WOW a06 can burn dvd9 ? thats great and u can upagrde them to burn faster kick ass
|
DVD9? Really...?
Has anyone had the oppurtunity to try this by, say backing up Metal Gear Solid Substance or any other DVD9s? Wait a minute, I'm not sure I've ever seen DVD9 media (of course, it might be because I don't look for it).
|
There arnt any.

hmm. i dont think dual layer recordables will work imo. currently some cheaper DVD-rs have the same reflectivty level as dual layer DVD roms. Dual layer DVD-r will have even less reflectivity than a dual layer dvdrom, it will be like 20% reflectivity or something hell low like that. dont think any ps2 is gonna read it very well at all.

Thats good newz now if someone can get there hands on that firmware we wont have to buy a duel layer burner no more ripping moives :)
|
Just keep an eye on this page http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/compute.../firmware.html

Pioneer won't relesed a f/w to enable the 106 to burn at 8x - because that defeats the purpose of their new drive, the 107. At the end of the day, they want people to buy the new kit - if they released an 8x f/w, people would get back to buying the 106 and leave Pioneer with a huge hole in their pockets through lost development cost and promotion etc... as people would be back to buying their old drives - not what they want.
I also feel that they will launch an individual DVD9 burner, and whilst the 106 may be able to be upgraded to burn them, Pioneer won't, especially if this is the case. The only way, IMHO, that these two things will come to light on a 106 is if someone hacks a f/w for it. Then again, I could be wrong ;) , but I doubt it, as I know Pioneer and their money grabbing tendencies! |
unless some one hacks the firmware like the peps on firmwareflash dose :D
|
... as I said at the bottom of my post... :D
|
Give me the choice between an updated f/w & Leeds Utd going bust.................. ;)
|
I know which I'd go for, ;)
|
id take the hacked firmware no point in dishing out more money for a new burner i just bought my 4x lol but yet it might not handle makieng ps2 games that good with 8x i remeber ps1 games burned at high speeds dont like to work it may come to that problem with high speed dvd-rs and also i wonder if they do hack the f/w well it do + an - media cause my 4x dose
