Hello all, im having the wierdest problem, any gmaes i have that are cracked will play just find for oh roughly 5 - 10 minutes, then the screen will go all wierd looking like some sort of plaid design and freeze up the pc, i have adjusted refresh rates, tried different cracks, im having this problem with

and freedom fighters.

anyone have a clue?

btw im running a gforce fx 5200 ultra
53.03
DX 9.0b

sounds more like an overheating problem

Enfurno 17-01-2004 11:39

i get no errors, if it were overheating i would know it happened, plus i have plenty of cooling, maybe it is though.. i dunno.. never had this problem with anything but a cracked game, and i have plenty of retail games on my pc.

Enfurno 17-01-2004 14:27

bump

krondike 17-01-2004 16:10

1. DON'T BUMP! (Boarder rules)
2. Overheating don't give errors. If U use P4 it will automatic freeze the computer, don't know about the AMD.

3. And this is a crack problem? I bet 50£ that the same will happens when you using your original .exe and your original CD!

RincewindTheWiz 17-01-2004 17:13

Actually, the P4 will throttle down to a lower speed, not lock up. The P3 will lock up deliberately if overheating. In any case Enfurno, have you tried the originals for the games you describe ? I know you say other retail games work fine but we have to be sure the originals of the games you're trying to crack work fine.

krondike 17-01-2004 17:26

I saw a cool movie, when they use thought it was P4.

The run a think it was Quake 3 or something, then they took of the cooler, and saw the game gose slower and slower untill it freeze.

then they tested AMD I think, and the game keep running and the preoceccor keep smoking, until windows give hell of message, and the processor keep smoke badly....

It was about 3-4 years I saw the movie saw I can have wrong or mess it up. But I know AMD do not have that P4 have, and that's overheat protection, YOU can't overburn p4 processors!

Enfurno 17-01-2004 19:14

as stated before, its not an over heating problem, i have optimum cooling and heat monitoring going on all the time.. just updated drivers for my card so ill test it now,
i use AMD btw...

Eagle 18-01-2004 02:06

krondike, that video was from toms hardware :)

it is like rince says: the P4 throttles down but does not crash and wont get damaged. AMD processors nearly immediately burn out :D

CatPuke999 18-01-2004 07:14

Sounds like an overheating problem to me. My PC, did the same thing and come to find out the fan on my videocard, although still turning was slowly dying.

Try this. Open your PC case, and point a large housefan towards the inside, then try playing any of the games that give you problems, if they work ok, then you will know for sure it is an overheating problem.

Just a suggestion :)

ash2dust2 18-01-2004 07:50

And Enfurno wont state if the problem exists with original exe's.

No, they'll crash. And if you keep doing that they might get damaged. The only way to get a burning Athlon is if the heatsink falls of completely. Even if the fan stops working, the heatsink itself will spread enough heat to limit it to crashes. The point is that a P4 will even survive a heatsink that completely falls off, though your motherboard may not be too happy about 400-500 grams of aluminium and copper dropping on its components :D

Eagle 18-01-2004 11:56

i was referring to the THG video. in that video they demonstrated what happens if you completely remove the heatsink. the P4 survived it while the AMD went up in smoke.

I guess i could have phrased that better

Ok, when I have these problems it is one of two things. Video card and game not compatible or VIDEO CARD IS OVERHEATING / BAD MEMORY on card.

herosatwar 21-01-2004 13:23

THIS COULD HELP

IT COULD BE THAT UR VIDEO CARD IS OUT OF DATE, GO TO UR VIDEO CARDS WEB SITE IF U DONT KNOW WHAT UR VIDEO CARD IS THEN
