Silver V9 + Smartchip

Just completed install Silver V9 pal + Smartchip
1st time ive used Smartchip after a bit of head scratching and some help from www.ukmodchips.biz the chip supplier
its all running fine boots nice an quick and every time
only been on test for 3 hours but so far seems a good chip
not quite a Messiah 2 but not bad for price

EVOEvo 02-12-2003 14:10

im getting a smart chip did on my v9 how good dose it boot will it boot just by truning system on open tray put game in close and boot or do u have to reset ? and i heard m2's haveing lots of probs with v9 units

lufcfan 02-12-2003 15:03

M2 1.33 have been fixed for v9 consoles. Magic V are having awful problems with v9's however.

EVOEvo 02-12-2003 17:25

What awful problems, do you mean killing V9 boards or other problems?? I see lots more posts of M2's killing Mobo's than Magic V's. Tons more!!

fanta 03-12-2003 09:05

The smartchip reacts very similar to the M2 direct boot for ps2 games then into standby and hold till eject flashes for psx and dvd films
seems to boot slightly quicker
I have a V9 with M2 fitted and it works fine
ive always used Messiah in the past they in my opinoin are the best chip but so far the Smartchip comes a close second

bobfffg 03-12-2003 09:34

as far as i'm aware, there has been no conclusive proof that the M2 nor any other chip are directly resonsible for killin' the v9's...

its a long thread, but if you're interested, read this

seaneyb2003 03-12-2003 13:31

fanta and evo good luck with the v9 consoles, hope they dont blow up like some of the other consoles.

Good Luck!

EVOEvo 03-12-2003 14:08

so far i have not heard any cases of a smart chip killing a ps2 all i heard were m2 chips that did that and some magic V M2 was to pricey for me and i read booting stats on ownz that when booting a dvd-r game with v9 smart chip u just trun the system on put game in and it loads just like a origianl :) sleep modes same as the apple hold reset for 5 secs and dvds and psx games boot hold is something like hold reset from stand by till eject ligh comes on

Well, you haven't seen my mail box! Lol!

Magic V chips are having just as hard a time with the V9's as M2. Charlie has an M2 1.33 in his V9 and it's perfectly fine.

ihaveanosebleed 04-12-2003 05:16

Well, I'd like to know as much as possible because I'm going to be doing some and the guys I get my chips from in Canada use magic V's in their own premods and boast about its reliability being better than M2's and such.

bighap 04-12-2003 09:26

It is basically hit and miss with the v9. Charlie is supposed to be getting a fried v9 in the next day or two for evaluation.

dust2dust 04-12-2003 10:04

ive fitted a few smartchips
only problems found action replay, theres no turn off of chip 5 secs
will be ps1 mode if u hold for 5 secs

never done hard extensive test on what it will boot but games i tried booted fine

as for the dead v9 situation
its a funny one,but i can honestly say that i have no dead v9 yet nor does a few installers i know well

EVOEvo 04-12-2003 17:01

hmm i seen the boot steps on ownz for the smart chip but i cant find it now i think the guy del the post but there was a way to put it in sleep mode or so he said

DMS3

anyone know how the dms3 is running on the version 9?

spedmetal 04-12-2003 17:40

The magic V 50k's are not to blame. I have installed several over the last month and I can make the same statement that dust has about not having one dead V9 yet.In fact I have been very impressed with the performance of the magic V mod's, it finally seams like magic has got it together. I also believe that its a problems with the V9 its self as I have heard allot of un-modded V9's are biting the dust as well. One other thing it seams to be a problem more so with the PAL V9's then anything else. So this would lead one to believe that there may be a bad batch of chips that Sony bought in this region that they are putting in the new V9's.Lastly there seams to be a few who have had bad experiences with the combination of the M2's and the V9's and would just like some one or something to blame. OK looks like we might have another long thread starting here.

Problems with Magic V on V9???

Exactly what are the problems mate?? I've one modded about 2 weeks back and I've been running it for between 3 - 6 hours everyday and mine is still doing ok.

The only problem that I faced is that sometimes i get RSOD with the AR-Max disc. other then that I'm having no problems booting backups and originals from browser.

Kindly let me know exactly what are the Problems that you are talking about so I can keep a look out of it and hopefully post some positive results after I've tested it.

smarttchip x4 (v9 version) has only been released just over 1 week maybe 2 weeks now but only just

m2 v9 was available 2 months ago
seem like a pluasible reason, before we get into the amount of each chip sold/fitted

dust2dust 05-12-2003 08:07

v10 are hitting the streets already, mobo has biggest changes in a long time

maybe sony has had problems with the v9

fanta 05-12-2003 12:09

I think dust2dust may have hit the nail on the head V9 may be a problem build
funny how Messiah have had very few problems before and now V9's keep dying
its strange how other chips have the same problem
i think it may be time for the M2 bashers to eat humble pie

quick report the Smartchip works fine had on test 3 days plays all games thrown at no problem:cool:

EVOEvo 05-12-2003 21:44

well mine seems to be working great now that i solderd the fan back on

spedmetal 05-12-2003 23:00

soldered the fan back in? HUH ... why did you have to do that?

bighap 05-12-2003 23:06

yeah when i got it back from the installer today it was like that the plug came off the board some how. What i think was the fan wires got pulled lil to hard and poped it off cause the wires were a tight pull when i took it apart so i had to solder the wires to the board in order for the fan to work. Netmech said that was a first for him he never had that happen b4 he was going to fix it for free and pay shiping cost but i didnt want to wait another 6 days just in shiping time there and return so i fixed it myself :)

TylerDurden 06-12-2003 07:19

LOL!!

Its always the "first time its ever happened."

Tyler!

spedmetal 06-12-2003 16:51

Oh ok.... I was like "solder what the heck". I didn't know that you ripped the connector off it. But I can see where that might happen because I have noticed one thing about the fan plug on the V9's over the older ones is that it does seam to take allot harder of a tug to get it off the board. But that's cool that you just fixed it yourself. If you had an old fan or could find one that some one would sell for cheap you could just cut the connecter off the old one and splice it onto the new one. I believe all the fan plugs are pretty much the same.

EVOEvo 07-12-2003 11:10

i dont know if its just me but it my v9 laser makes alot of noise on some games like max payne 2 then my apple did or maybe its just cause i dont here than fan no more like on my v7 how dose urs do fanta ?

seaneyb2003 07-12-2003 13:03

it could be the media you are using some have a bit of trouble with reading cheap dvd-rs like princo's try using ritek's they have a better reflectivity than other disks

EVOEvo 07-12-2003 14:33

o i use riteks and its only on some games like ffx-2 dose not make much nosie unlike max payne 2

Actually the V9 laser should be quiter than any previous models.

The V10 is just in my opinion a continuation of Sony's quest to make ther stations cheaper and cheaper - not better!

Look at the PSX models - the 1002 was filled with so much metal shielding and noise protection - multiple laser adjust points etc...

then we finally got the PSOne - and just look how cheaply that was made!

I agree with most of you guy's comments - I have been installing for years and have yet to have a station die on me!

And I have used some scary chips in my time - i.e. Magic3.0 just because they were the best or most available at the time...

I think it comes down a lot to who is installing! their tools and who you buy the chips from!
