SOME DISK JUGGLER SOLUTIONS!!!!!!!!!!NEWBIES OR OLDIES

it seem most of you are having the same problems over and over, some of you i have been able to help, while others have not been so lucky.
i'm going to go over the basic things you should do to get disk juggler to work, and i would appreciate anyone else's help that has usefull info. when you are done reading this i beg you to please post a reply at the bottom...say anything, but that way this message will stay on the boards for eveyone to read when they enter.
onto the solutions.

FIRST: IF YOU ARE TRYING TO BURN A CDI DC IMAGE WITH SOMETHING OTHER THAN DISK JUGGLER 2.X.....YOU'LL HAVE A NICE COASTER TO SET YOUR DRINKS ON....SO MAKE SURE IT IS DJ 2.X

SECOND: UPDATE THE ASPI DRIVER AT WWW.ADAPTEK.COM OR USE THE GENERIC DJ DRIVER FOUND AT WWW.DCCOPYWORLD.COM

THIRD: MAKE SURE YOUR BURNER SUPPORTS MULTI SESSION WRITING..ONE WAY TO CHECK IS BY TURNING ON CDRWIN, GOTO "RECORD DISK" LOOK AT THE BOTTOM..IF YOU SEE THE "OPEN NEW SESSION" GREYED OUT UNDER "RECORDING OPTIONS"...WELL.....YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK.(YOU CAN BURN GAMES THAT ARE NOT SELF BOOT THOUGH).

FOURTH:ONCE YOU HAVE ALL THAT DONE OPEN DJ...
BURNING A UNRARED IMAGE:
1 GOTO "FILE", "NEW"" AND CHOOSE "CD IMAGE TO CD RECORDER"
2 HIT THE "SOURCE" BUTTON, FIND YOUR CDI/ISO IMAGE AND HIT "OK"
3 MAKE SURE YOUR BURNER IS IN DESTINATION
4 MOVE THE RECORDING SPEED DOWN TO 4X OR SLOWER...(JUST TO BE SAFE), AND PUT "WRITE" IN THE "ACTION" BOX..OR "TEST AND IF OK WRITE"
5 HIT THE "ADVANCED" TAB...THIS MAY NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SOME , BUT I HAVE LESS PROBLEMS WHEN I CHOOSE THESE SETTINGS
MODE: MODE1
BLOCK: 2336 OR 2368 (MAY VARY ON BURNERS)
OFFSET:0
TOC: CD-ROM
DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING CHECKED IN THE "MISC"
6 MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT RUNNING OTHER APPS, YOU WANT YOUR HARD DRIVE TO BE ABLE TO SPIT THE INFO THE THE BURNER WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS.
7 HIT START AND PRAY......

MAKING A BACK-UP OF A DC GAME ON DISK

FIRST FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS ABOVE UNTIL YOU GET TO THE "FILE", "NEW", NOW HIT "CD COPY FROM SAME RECODER"
ALSO IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK YOU MUST TURN OFF THE "CD AUTO INSERT" ON YOUR COMP. TO CHECK THIS GOTO "START", "SETTINGS", "CONTROL PANEL", "SYSTEM"..HIT THE "DEVICE MANAGER" TAB..GOTO "CD ROM" HIT THE "SETTINGS" TAB MAKE SURE THERE IS NOT A CHECK IN THE "AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION" BOX. DO THIS FOR YOUR READER AND BURNER. (RESTART YOUR COMP)

OK ONCE YOU'RE BACK PUT THE GAME YOU WANT TO COPY IN YOUR BURNER PUT THE RECORDING SPEED DOWN TO 4X AND "WRITE" IN THE "ACTION" SLOT HIT START.
DJ WILL START MAKING A TEMP IMAGE OF THE GAME. WHEN IT IS DONE IT WILL KICK OUT THE GAME. PUT A BLANK 80MIN CD IN THE BURNER, CLOSE THE TRAY, LET THE BURNER GET SET...THIS IS IMPORTANY, BECAUSE 80% OF THE TIME IF YOU HIT "OK" RIGHT AFTER YOU CLOSE THE CD TRAY IT WILL FAIL...WHY?..I DON'T KNOW, SO JUST WAIT THE 6 SECONDS OR SO THEN HIT "OK"... IN 20 MINUTES YOU SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER COPY OF THE GAME.

A COMMON ERROR MESSAGE IS "BUFFER UNDER RUN" THAT MEANS YOUR HARD DRIVE OR CDROM( IF GOING CD TO CD) IS NOT GETTING INFO TO THE BURNER FAST ENOUGH, SO THE BURNER STOPS FUNCTIONING.....THE MOST COMMON WAY TO HANDLE THIS IS SLOW DOWN YOUR WRITING SPEED, SO THE BURNER ISN'T WRITING THE INFO FASTER THAN IT'S GETTING IT, ALSO MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ELSE ON YOUR COMP THAT REQUIRES YOUR HARD DRIVE TO WORK (SO CLOSE ALL APPS )

THE SCARIEST PART IS RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST SESSION, IF YOU GET PAST THIS PART TO THE 10% MARK..IT SHOULD BE SMOOTH FROM THERE..UNLESS YOU MESS WITH YOU COMP, HAVE A POWER OUTTAGE, OR YOU KID COMES OVER AND PUSHES THE BUTTONS ON YOUR COMP(I HAVE THAT PROBLEM)
HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYON....
GOOD LUCK

Mesz 14-11-2000 14:36

I am completely new to all of this sh..t but thanks to the post you made papa, I feel i know what to do without trouble.. this dreamcast burnin is soo much harder than burning Gaystation games which i burn for my friends...

thanks again

BIG PAPA 14-11-2000 19:30

thank you guys for you replies

gulga: im not sure whats going on over there, but we need to get it fixed....20 cds is way too many icq me and put your name "gulga" in...i'll see if i can help you out.

mesz: i hope things get easier for you, but you're right, dc games can be a b*tch to burn....good luck, and look back here for help.

Gugla 14-11-2000 23:39

me too man byte said i have the same thingi have burnt cdi images before np but know its a problem. thx

BIG PAPA 15-11-2000 01:03

ok guys this is what i have noticed...some of the self boot games that use kalistos initial technique seem to be able to be copied fine by most people, however there are 2 other self boot techniques used by release groups that seem to give trouble to you guys..(even me), i use psxcopy to make disk to disk back ups and only certain games come out right...i'll need to look into this a bit more......that's all for now...

Swede 15-11-2000 05:11

I´m new to this board but I can allready see that you´re really trying to help people out Big Papa. Continue with that, you´re doing a great job. However I was wondering if anyone that gets "illegal field" in DJ has manage to get it to work? I have the Matshita 7502 with the firmware v4.17 and I constantly get "illegal field" when there´s a track that is 300 sectors. It has come to this point when I´m planning to buy a new CD-R and give the old one away as a christmas gift to my parents. Anyone know how to get the 7502 to work or can recommend another burner to me?

caspa 15-11-2000 12:01

Big Papa......on my cdrwin, 'open new session' is grayed out, so that means i can't burn self boot games...is their any way to exploit this, and burn self boot games?

caspa 15-11-2000 12:11

Big papa, i want to thank you for the time you put into this forum to help all of us, and i suggest more people reply to this, so that this topic stays up, and big papa continues to help us....again thanx big papa, i really appreciate what you've done for me...

jinkeez 15-11-2000 20:55

Ok, first of all, thanks, Big Papa, for taking the time to help everyone out in the forums. It's really appreciated by people like me who are just now getting into this.

Now, down to the problem... I'm having trouble with DiscJuggler and my Memorex CDRW2642... I keep getting those dang buffer under-run errors, even after messing with all the options, disabling all background apps and so forth.... So, I'm wondering if there are any other CDR programs out there that you can make successful DC backups with. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help, all.

crackass 15-11-2000 21:01

My thing is greyed out too :(
I was wondering, isn't there anyway to convert those damn CDI into bin/cue?

BIG PAPA 15-11-2000 22:35

thank you everyone who has replied to these posts..
i really appreciate it, im about to post a couple new ones for those of you that can burn the cdi files, but they dont seem to work...
and for "crackass"...it wouldn't matter if you can convert the cdi to bin/cue, because you need that "greyed out box" to be functional...sorry
but to answer you question...yes you can convert them..use the "cdirip" program...

caspa 16-11-2000 14:07

Can someone name off some games that require the boot disk, since my p.o.s burner won't let me writer multiple sessions, and i won't waste my time downloading self boot games, and come to find out i can't burn them without buying a whole new burner. heh, im frustrated.....anyway can someone name off some 'decent' games that require the boot disk...Thanx....

crackass 16-11-2000 16:17

So, you're basically telling me that I CAN NOT burn if that thing is grey?? Well, I don't understand. I've been able to burn Some games that come in Cuesheet format and some bins. What I basicaly did was load the cueshet and thats it, the game woul burn, so I'm asking, isn't thee a way to convert the CDI into a cuesheet? so my burner would be able to copy it anyway?

crackass 16-11-2000 16:19

BTW, the part where it says "#### You" is not directed toward any of you, its just my sig.. lol. :D

caspa 16-11-2000 17:20

crackass, if that part 'open new sessions' is gray, you CAN not burn any 'Self Bootable' games....which are usally .cdi format...The only way to burn self bootable games is to have the right cd burner yamaha or plextor both work fine, which i have learned from Big Papa.....Now .cue/bin format usally is not self bootable, so you can burn and play any game that is bootable....So if the ' open new session ' is grayed out, you're outa luck to play self bootable games....the yamaha or plextor usally run at 250 if you wanted to know....Thanx Big papa, he supplied the info i just told you...later

BIG PAPA 16-11-2000 17:32

thanks again guys...
now to answer some of the questions...

first i wrote a letter to the support group at www.goldenhawk.com to see if there is anyway around the greyed out :open new session" i have not heard from them yet, and as soon as i do i will post the letter.

for those of you trying to burn the self boot games....well i would say stop wasting cds, if your "open new session" box is greyed out, i dont think there is much i can do at this point.
if any of you have the money to get new burners then i would say go with a yamaha...im not proclaiming they are the "best", but i do know they work and you can get them for about $220.00 for 8x...

the buffer under run problem means that info is not going from the hard drive to the burner fast enough, or in most of your cases..not at all. if your box is grey on the cdrwin and you get that error message, that means the second session can't initialize, so the info stops transmitting causing that error. for those of you that have the "open new session" box available to you..and you get this error..that means you either need to slow down your burn speed or turn off all other apps that may be using the hard drive. if that is still not working..you might have a HD that is too slow, and it can't move at the speed needed for the burner, although it should work if you move the record speed down to 2x

of course everyone knows i have the damn things, but who wants to get them from me, when it is so much more fun to download them for a day, unrar them and have a bad file, load them in DJ and wonder why it keeps failing and kicking out the cd. :(

caspa 16-11-2000 18:24

lol, damn big papa...wasn't exspecting to much...lol....hey, am i able to burn .iso files if my burner doesn't support mutiply write sessions... (aka... the ' open session boxed grayed out' lol) ?

BIG PAPA 16-11-2000 20:22

YES YOU CAN BURN ISO FILES.... ISO IS JUST A FORMAT EXTENSION LIKE BIN OR CDI...
IF YOU MADE A IMAGE OF A GAME IN ANY PROGRAM, THE PROGRAM WAS WRITTEN TO CREATE THE FILE USING A CERTAIN FORMAT EX: LETS SAY YOU ARE MAKING A IMAGE FILE OF THE GAME CALLED "DRIVER" THIS IS HOW YOUR IMAGE FILE WOULD LOOK IN CERTAIN PROGRAMS

CDRWIN: DRIVER.BIN
DISK JUG: DRIVER.CDI
ADAPTEC: DRIVER.ISO

THEY ARE ALL THE SAME EXACT GAME JUST MADE WITH DIFFERENT PROGRAMS....

Gugla 16-11-2000 23:16

hehe what ever papa listed there i have them and prettymuch ny game released i have and can get ny upcoming game. its cool when u dl at 500+kb/s hehe
ppl dont email me to get the games off me i have a room and go to irc.relic.net and got #dcast and just lookin the fservers there and u will find what u need. later.

BigPapa ny luck on my prob. i think i am scrwed then but what i dont get is this how can iburn quake 3 areana and allthe other self booable games and stuck on these ones. i think my burner is fried. thx

BIG PAPA 17-11-2000 19:18

im waiting for a answer from golden hawk on what can be done about the "open new session" box...

Darkhynde 18-11-2000 03:51

I personally have like a 1 out of 20 chances of successfully burning with discjuggler. This wasnt ever a problem because i live with my cousin and his computer works fine with discjujuggler. What i would do is use clonecd to copy the disc made by his pc.

My problem is this. We are going back home so we wont have an apt together for some months. So i need to get the effeciecny up on my drive. I can do multisession cds and i have tried everything that has been said except getting new drives from adaptek.

Im about to do this but i want to know if after i do are there any know system conflicts after switching to the new drives

I have a P3 600 Mhz
4804TE Mitsumi CDRW Drive
Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1302

ferrarimp3 18-11-2000 09:39

hey i have a ? can you burn the self bootable games with nero. If so who.

BIG PAPA 18-11-2000 11:20

to darkhydle ..you are going to have a lot of problems trying to burn the self boot games with a mitsumi burner...

and no you cannot use nero to burn the games....the only two programs i have ever got to do it are diskjuggler 2.x and psxcopy..(which will only burn cd 2 cd copies), oh and cdrwin..if you use the cdirip program....

krash 18-11-2000 14:42

ok BIG PAPA I'll bet I have one that you havent heard of yet!!!! my box is greyed out also but i can burn most of the older self boot games.. its just as of late that i get errors when trying to burn.. I get a " no seek complete " error ?? have you ever heard of this error? when i start to burn the file will buffer up to like 56% and then give me the error?? I am useing an ACER CRW8432A . any help from you or anyone would be great !

BIG PAPA 18-11-2000 19:52

i have heard of this and i explained it like this...
there are different methods used for the selfboot games
the earlier method seems to be easier on people than the other methods...

deano 19-11-2000 17:54

well all i can say is that i have not had much luck with this method
any one with anything else that i can try on how to copy from cd-rom to cdr please post it on this board thanx

BIG PAPA 19-11-2000 19:08

if your burner wont support the multi session burning, then you wont have any luck... sorry
however, since you are making a copy from a copy, you can try psxcopy and depending on the game you might have a chance...

if you or anyone else needs psxcopy email me and title it "psx copy" i will send you the link to one of my accounts that has it...

the Darkness 19-11-2000 23:18

use these settings

check these boxes

ignore read errors
raw read/write
edc/ecc

if writing and verifying, only write and disable verify

turn off burnproof

max image size set to 80 min.

this will get you past the illegal parameter or no seek error.

i get this no seek error on tony hawk for the first 5 min of reading, then it reads fine, burns away and boots fine in my dc. i think frogger 2 has the same no seek error in the middle of reading.

krash 20-11-2000 13:03

well i tried those settings and to no avail. :) if you could go more in depth on those settings and tell me what burner you are useing i would love it! here is what i get.

PLEASE HELP ANYONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

igottashit666 20-11-2000 13:15

i am using a yamaha 8424ez IDE

are you copying directly from the cd reader to recorder on the fly. if so that may be your problem.

try setting the burn speed slide bar to copy to an image first.

IDE drives need to copy to an image first to work best.

older burners have trouble with the newer self booting games. what is the exact make and model of your burner.

krash 20-11-2000 16:55

I have an acer 8x4x32 and i am trying to burn a cdi file image to recorder

jinkeez 20-11-2000 17:30

I'm looking at getting a new burner soon, any digs on the Plextor IDE 32/12/10? Anyone burn successfully with it?

Thanks!

lula 20-11-2000 20:42

If it wasn't for you PAPA, I'd still be playing my ATARI SYSTEM!!! Thanks.

BIG PAPA 21-11-2000 00:53

to "krash" you need to turn off the "auto insert notification"

>>>I-246 11/20/00 2:31:22 PM - UI Manager: User name: me on CX829377-A, ID: -, Notes: -
W-380 11/20/00 2:31:22 PM - UI Manager: "Auto-insert" notification enabled on one or more drives
I-275 11/20/00 2:35:20 PM - Task manager: Starting task ------------------------------------------------------------------<<<<<<

it says right there that it is enabled on one or more drives..if you read my post, i clearly state that it needs to be off or you will get errors when trying to read the cd....

buffer under run - a response

Hi
Initiallly i was dogged by buffer under runs - to cut a long story short - my problem was that
1 my hard drives were not fast enough
2 i had to ctrl+alt+del to close pogam box and remove all progs not in use
3 when burning audio I had to adjust to max speed 2 for recording

maybe if we all submit how we overcame our buffer under run probs - we will eventually build quite a good checklist for distribution

regards
:(

Congratulations, you have set a record that will be hard to beat! Do you notice the date stamp of the post you've replied to? :D
