ISO vs Data Burn

Now I'm confused...
Till last day I always believe that to burn a XBOX game I need to do a XISO file, then burnit with Nero, and make a CDRW or DVD that will just open on the XBOX drive and cant be open on the PC Drive.
Last day I do my first DVD Data Burn, them I can see the files on my PC DVDROM, and it runs on XBOX to...
Can anybody explain me this ??? Don't the burned DVD or CDRW have to be only read on the XBOX drive ???

No, with the mod chip the xbox can read nearly everything. Only the original games have this "protection" making unable to read it in you pc dvd drive.

The reason you can see the files in your PC drive after a data burn is because the files are burnt in UDF format, which also the xbox is compatiable with. If you use Isomaker 2.0 using the GDFimage pre-mastering utility that way you make a proper xbox iso, which when burnt it cannot be read by the PC only the xbox.

btw, databurn is better. Less margin for error.

This of coarse, is my opinion.

ok i know i'm biast but i have created over 170 successfull data burn's and have yet had one fail on the other hand i have tried every single iso tool out there and had a 50% fail rate or worse with all of them.

i know some of you will disagree but those are my personal experiences.

TonyMacaroni 21-10-2003 06:20

"i know some of you will disagree but those are my personal experiences."

That is my experience, too. First i used xiso to create game discs confused about that the half of the games dont work.
Now i use Nero UDF and i had no error since then expect Burnout2. It is impossible to get this damn game run. If anyone burned it successfully please tell me how you made it.

I still say with XISO's you get a faster load time.

I have never come across a problem with the program that Im using to make XISOs. Simplexiso.

I may try looking in the used bin at my local store and buy that Burnout 2 game to see for myself if Simplexiso will fail with it. Too bad I dont like racing games all that much.

"Too bad I dont like racing games all that much."

But i like em very much ;) .

The problem isnt that "normal" problem i had with all other games using the iso method which was that a few iso games simply not start. The problem i have with burnout2 is getting an ingame error message. The original game disc has some scratches thought that could be the fault but using the original disc there are no errors at all.

TylerDurden 21-10-2003 11:15

Ill play racing games but I just dont like spending my money on them. But, I do whatever I can to help out on forums so give me time and Ill get that game.

thanks, Tyler :)

I Have it !!! (BurnOUt2)
Great game...

TonyMacaroni 22-10-2003 01:54

"I Have it !!! (BurnOUt2)"

Do you also have a burned disc of it?
I have one, the first time it works fine with the burned disc but when you drive the championship the first races threre is no problem but if you try to load the 3rd race of it, the screen hangs up with an error message.
I say that because you may not even recocnize that the disc doesnt work.

Alabaca 23-10-2003 02:00

OK, I dont play that mutch...
But I've copy it from a friend that already finish all tracks...

Wow you Xbox mods allow this stuff? Isnt this against rule #5?

TonyMacaroni 23-10-2003 07:19

Perhaps the disc I tried to copy was simply damaged there were some deep scratches inside. I tried to polish it but without a effect. If I tried to copy directly to my PC using FTP there was also a read error so not every file could be copied.
But maybe it is a copy protection like as some PC Games, where is an uncopyable file located on the disc which the game checks, dont know.

TylerDurden 23-10-2003 08:51

Nah it has to be the scratches. Because you use the one device that is supposed to read the Xbox Disc and that is the Xbox. So even if there were any hidden files the xbox drive would pic them up.

TonyMacaroni 23-10-2003 10:59

Ok, then Ill try to get another (not damaged) disc of this game, perhaps I can rent it somewhere in a "Videothek".

PS. do you actually understand my bad language? ;)

Jay_83 27-10-2003 16:46

Hey tyler,

I sometimes find that with some games (unreal tournament-movie skips ever so lightly) (Burnout 1 - music isn't as stable as the original) that there are a few small niggles.

U think making an iso would rectify this?

TylerDurden 27-10-2003 16:53

Yeah dude, Im pretty sure youll have a faster read when you make an ISO. I was a data write guy in the beginning but now Im ISO's all the way. Hey PM me your AIM or whatever messenger you got and Ill explain in more detail.

I`m sure that`s not the problem. point 1. the copy protection on the pc games is different. If you make a copy of a pc game you will have to make a image file of the disc and on the xbox you just copy the files. The zopy protection on the xbox is just that it needs a code that can`t be burned on a normal dvd burner but the modchip will do all the work for that. And point 2 if there was a copy protection on burnout 2 people should know it already. B.t.w. I like the xbox. The game makers don`t make hard copy protections. Problebly because they know if the make a heavy copy protection it would be a mather of weeks that it will be cracked.

Quall999 27-10-2003 21:28

Not only that, they would also have to make a protection that is compatable with the xbox hardware and bios. Which is actually quite difficult to do.

TylerDurden 28-10-2003 05:29

Who are you guys talkin to? Not me I hope.
