little help connecting xbox to pc
ok....i have a adsl router(which acts like a dhcp router) connected to my pc and then i have my xbox connected to my pc through a nic card and a patch cable. i load up evox and ip address is still set to 0.0.0.0 i know im messing a step somewhere but i cant seem to put my finger on it. i have a big HDD installed on my xbox already and have many games saved on it, but i wanna know how to connect it just in case something comes that i have to do this method. if anyone can help with this i would really appreciate it :)

Set your StaticIP to "Yes". Pick an IP address for the XBox and enter it into the INI file and save it. Reburn the CD/DVD. Make sure the RJ-45 cable is connect to both the XBox and the router when you turn the XBox on. Once its loaded check to see if ya got an IP address showing in the setting of EvoX on the XBox.
|
on which nic do i set the staticIP to " yes". and also what do u mean pick an address for the xbox? u mean i get to choose the address for the xbox? and u also said to enter that ip address in the INI file and save it.....what INI file? if ur talking about the evox software then i dont have it cause ther person that installed my modchip also installed all of the software as well.
|
Yes I am talking about the EvoX software. Your going to have to get your own copy config the INI and boot your XBox with that.
OR Take your XBox back to the person who modded it and ask him/her to help you with it. |
i think this is kinda weird cause no tutorial that i know has never mentioned this part at all. ill just send it back next week or so cause i dont wanna mess with it. im scared that i might mess it up or something.
|
u needa set up two different static ips
on ur comp the other on the box for the comp just goto liek network connections, properties for evox just goto system settings the put yes to static ip and set it to a different static ip |
Axmichigan,
sorry if i sound like a total newbie on this situation but u could instruct me on this  and also i could pick any static ip address that i want or does it have to be certain ones? thanx in advance |
's all good man
uhh first of all, whats ur os? if windows, then which |
hi m8,dont think i am flaming u,but maybe u should first read the newbe tut for evox.It will sort some things out for u.The ip stuff is wide covered in there.u'll find the tut here:
http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49079 good luck, its not that hard :) one last thing, for ur xbox just pick an internal ip adress. any 169.254.*.* will do. This what my section looks like Code:
[Network] |
and the last hint, get the evox software from quall99 's site.
The evox.ini is in the package. |
Axmichigan....i have windows xp version 2002 sp 1
and hey slim673....about modifying the ini file and reburning it again onto a cd, these steps were never covered in the tutorials that i have read and i have read quite a few of them already. they all just basically covered the basics and were very brief instrucions. also i figured i didnt need to do that as well cause i have adsl router which will give my xbox a different ip address everytime i boot up. |

Sl1m out. |
okay so windows xp is easiest to work with
no offense slim but followin standard IPing protocal will do the trick if u found somethin else congrats so frequency, do the following first your computer goto start, control panel goto network connections second click to properties the click the tci/ip and click properties for static ip put in: 192.168.0.2 then the subnet will fill in itself then goto defeault gateway and up in 192.168.0.1 then click done or whatever and allow it to adjust and reset also put on show indication when connected (whatever the words are) (for your reference, you are not supposed to connect the two till both are set, obviously, but just making sure) then goto your xbox let evox load then goto system utils or whatever then goto settings then scroll down a lil bit you should see static ip and such first of all, if it is not enabled, select yes for static ip then goto static ip and fill in: 192.168.0.157 * quall 8) * then the subnet mask should be the same as on the computer and finally the defaulty gateway should be 192.168.0.1 (same as the computer) click power off then put the cat5(e) into your computer let it recognize theres a crossover/straight cable (if you are using a hub) then turn on your xbox it should say on the bottom right of your computer that its connected open up flashfxp goto quickconnect say connect to 192.168.0.157 type xbox/xbox for username/password click connect and you should have all the hard drives |
Axmichigan....which nic do i configure cause i have two of them. one in integrated onto the motherboard and this is the one i use to connect to the internet. and i have another one installed in one of the pci slots and this is the one i use to connect to the xbox. i feel that i am getting very close to establishing a connection, i just need a little tiny bit more :)
|
connect you'r xbox to the pc .windows xp will show that a nic is activated. click on that nic and configure as above
|
hey dude....when i right click on my network connections on my desktop and choose properties, i have two local area connections. the one that is integrated in my motherboard is enabled and is functioning. the other one that is one of my pci slots is enabled but it says network cable unplugged. i think this is weird then sense i have my xbox connected with a crossover cable to that nic card. i guess windows xp hasnt recognized it and i know i have a crossover cable too.
|
when i plug my xbox to my adsl router with the crossover cable i get the static ip address 192.168.0.157 all the time flawlessly. i tried 5 times just to see if it would change or whatever and i still get the same one. so if i feel that i cant do it then im gonna exchange this router for a adsl router that has 2 slots in the back...not just one then. i think this will make my life easier
|
so u think u got it now?
|
nope..im still having a hard time with configuring the nic that is connected to my xbox. i feel that this method isnt for me as this method is driving me nuts. instead i think im gonna a buy a dsl router with multi port ethernet. this will make it alot easier for me.
|
this is exactley what i did
connected xbox to pc nic using crossover cable. windows xp recognises the connection and shows the network icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop. press start / connect to / show all connections. click on the nic card which is shown as active. a small box will appear. click on internet protoco (TCP/ IP) THEN PROPERTIES. set ip 192.168.0.5 subnet mask. 255.255.255.000 default gateway 192.168.0.1 set xbox to ip 192.168.0.3. set flash fxp as follows 192.168.000.003 port 21 password xbox user name xbox. now every thing works perfectley. i did exactley the same for my uncle but i used his built in nic card |
yea most probably
if u really want just unplug the dsl and just connect it and see if it works the way i detailed it for u |
the thing is that my windows xp doesnt recognize the xbox using a nic. i have run the crossover cable to the nic and my pc still doesnt recognize it. when i go to my network connections i have two local area connections. local area connection 1 is for my pc and this works good but local area connection 2(which is the nic used for my xbox) it has the phrase "network cable unplugged" by the icon. i cannot proceed forward until i have this corrected cause i think changing the ip address on that nic wont do me any good if i cant overcome that obstacle first.
|
there could only be 3 reasons for this.
1 you do not have a crossover cable. 2 you do have a crossover cable but it is nackered. 3 you'r nic card is nackered so buy a new one you can get a set of 2 from pc world for about £10.00 |
how do i find out if my crossover is nackered or my nic?
|
actually i know that my nic is not messed up cause i change the rj45 cable from the integrated ethernet from the motherboard to the installed nic and my adsl router gave it a ip address flawlessly and i was able to log on to the internet.
|
ok then i would sugest you go to you'r local hardware store and buy a new crossover cable.
i have both a crossover cable and a straite cable. with the crossover cable xp instantley recognises the network connection even though you can not connect to the xbox untill the nic is configured. with the straite cable nothing at all does not recognise the connection get the cable not connected message |
if my crossover cable didnt work then why when i plug my xbox straight to my adsl router it gives me the correct ip address on my xbox?
|
honestley i do not know. i'm not big om network connections. but i can configure a nic to connect to a xbox. that's about as far as my network knowlege goes
|
hmm did u set up your pc with a static ip?
cuz then it should work if not then unplug the router and use the crossover directly from pc to xbox |
as far as i know you use a straite cable to connect to the xbox when using a router. not a crossover cable
|
i think my best choice and the choice that im gonna take is to exchange this router for a multi port ethernet rouer. i called up internet/dsl provider and they told me that they were gonna come by tomorrow morning to exchange it for me :) i am sure after this i will be connected in no time.
|
no problem dude, any more hassle just give us a shout.
|
but thanx for everyone who helped and took the time to answer my questions even though the advices giving to me did not accomplish my goal. i still think u guys did a good job in trying to help me out :)
in the mean time i'll just store my games on the xbox's HDD :D |
thats cool taht u got it to work
finally 8) |
actually i havent got it to work...but i can still store my games on the xbox straight from its dvd drive to its HDD. it only takes me about 5 mins or so
|
yea thats the easiest way
thats what i do buty i still think u should try just doin what i said after disconnectin the router and just using a crossover straight to the xbox |
i didnt work..ill just stick with how i've been doing it....the easy way :) plus my internte/dsl provider told me that they will exchange this router for a multi port in a few hours....yay!!
