How to burn ikaruga??

I got the image file for ikaruga, but it is 773 mb, so how do i get this on a cd?? Do i have to overburn a 700mb cdr, or does a 800mb cd exist???

Tsubaru 18-04-2003 13:22

I HAD BURNED MINE IN A 790MB CD.

orochidan 18-04-2003 13:24

I burned it with a 700MB cdr, it should work if you overburn it.

mib666 18-04-2003 14:40

Everytime i try to overburn a 700mb cdr discjuggler reports a bufferunderrun error.
800mb cdrs are producing read errors at my dc. There's the starting screen showing and the game freezes.

There's a 588 Mo dummy file in this release (0a.dat). Remove it or downsize it. Ikaruga is less than 40 Mo. I'm sure you'll manage to burn it even on a 650 Mo CD. :)

Actually, they could burn Ikaruga on 5" miniCD too..
Maybe I'm wrong, but Ikaruga is one of the smallest official DC games ever. I think Crazy Taxi 1 & 2 could also fit on miniCDs..

Crazy1 and powerstone 1 were about 80 mb zipped Ikaruga 17 mb zipped so i guess ikaruga officially is the smallest game around unless I miss a game here. At least those small games make sound and load identical to their GD rom brothers.

Can DC read mini CD?

djgarf 19-04-2003 16:10

namco museum is really small too only 8.5mb!

Only games that I can think of that will fit on a Mini CD are:

Crazy Taxi 1
Crazy Taxi 2
Ikaruga
Super Street Fighter 2 X
Marvel vs Capcom 2

But as long as the game is less than 186MB, it should fit on mini CDR's.

I've (over)burned the game on a 700mb cdr and everything works fine. thx buddies

Megalexxx 21-04-2003 01:29

"Dangerous Toys" is even smaller, but could it be called "a game" ?

mib666 21-04-2003 03:41

Even cutting the dummy file from the image won't make my DC run the game. What settings are you using?

Megalexxx 21-04-2003 23:54

Did you patch it for PAL DCs ?

mib666 22-04-2003 07:56

No, i didn't. I was just wondering about those strange sounds coming from my DC when trying to read the 800mb cdr.
Sooner or later i'll find a way to convince my writer to produce a working copy or else i'll keep myself busy playing mars matrix ;)

Im having trouble aswell trying to work out how to burn this game. Can anyone explain how to overburn and what cdr they're using and what program, for example, discjuggler? I really wanna get this game to work! I put it in my Dreamcast and then it goes to tha music screen. So I try using the boot disc which worx with all my Dreamcast games and it doesnt wanna load up. I used a Discjuggler image to burn the game, and it was the size of 792mb after extracting from 17.8megs. Help:(

bascule 25-04-2003 02:19

Hmm, me too - a lot of my discs I've burnt just go to the CD player screen instead of loading, even though I use DJ and burn them as mode 2 XA. Probably doing something fundementally wrong...

Megalexxx 25-04-2003 06:16

Did you patch it ???
It needs a patch on PAL DCs !

Immortal_Souls 25-04-2003 19:33

Okay, I have found out the problem, I searched in another Dreamcast forum and the problem is that Ikaruga was originally intended to be an image for Discjuggler version 4.0 and all this time I have been using Discjuggler 3.5! Dammit!!!! All you have to do is get a normal 700meg cd and burn away and it should work using DJ4. Simple!

Oh and whats this about patching for PAL Dreamcasts? I dont understand that, how do u do it? I dont think u'd need to patch anything, sounds too confusing!

Immortal_Souls 29-04-2003 23:21

Okay, I tried using Discjuggler 4 to burn Ikaruga, it burnt for a while and then it stopped burning. I put it in my Dreamcast but it didnt work. Now Im assuming, its either because I used a 650MB cd or I did the wrong settings on DJ4. The setting was on mode: audio which I think wouldnt be right. The other modes were mode 1/DVD and Mode 2. Then there is the option of Block: 2352, 2368 or 2448. With TOC, it was on CD-DA, but I have the option of also CD-ROM/DVD, CD-XA or CD-I. Does anyone know what types of settings Im supposed to be using to burn the game now????

weezee 30-04-2003 03:19

Is it soooooooooooooooooo difficult to follow the Echelon Selfboot Tutorial??? I can't belive you're wasting all this time with this nonsense. If you'd read the tutorial you'd be playing Ikaruga for ages instead of tinckertoying with DJ/CDRWin.
Get ISObuster or Daemon's Tools, extract the #°ò!!%!! game, and selfboot it!

Just load the image file into DJ4 (it IS made for version 4!) and hit the start button. The settings are stored within the image so you don't have to set them manually.
I used a 700mb cdr and it worked fine (selfbooting on PAL-DC without patching).
