C&C Generals cant back-up

I'm having a right game trying to back this up.Nero copies it but when installing,it wont recognise the 2nd disc. After looking at old posts i cant see any1 else having this problem.I've also followed the sticky above and D/L Alcohol120 and as the link says there are always disc errors from 800 to 10000 due to safedisc2?
The trouble is it starts at 800 recognises the errors but 30 min on its only at 1350 sectors,is this right? If so it'll take me about 2 days to back-up one disc:D
Like i say i've trawled through the previous posts as i know peeps are gettin peed off with C&C post.

This is right, you can avoid it with a Daemon Tools trick. Look for "Fast Dump" in VLuka's FAQ (sticky). Or you can just let it continue, as soon as it gets past the bad sectors it will continue at normal speed. This would normally take up one or up to a few hours.

hi. if you got a second drive try this one, maybe it's better at skipping defect sectors. good luck backin up

I used alcohol120 and it took about 4hrs to back-up the 1st disc:eek: and about 3 min for the 2nd:D ,eventually got there though and its working fine now.Thx;)

i copies with 120% also and it didn't take 2 hours to copy. though i couldn't get the disc to auto run when it came to install but the back up installed on my computer. then when i went online it said something about the serial # and i couldn't get online at all. just offline play.

I copied it with alcohol. It took about 5 minutes creating the image and about 5 minutes to write it to a cd.

chrisi 20-03-2003 10:41

nice you're so stingy with your GREAT BURNERS and bragging! Well, for me it also took about 5 minutes to read and about 4 to backup although that may not be such a great idea :)))))

Aaron3001 21-03-2003 23:52

maybe that's its not working for me. my comp. is over a year old with the cdrw i got, it won't work. :(

@ Aaron3001
you copy installs ok according to your other post so just use a crack.

Aaron3001 22-03-2003 13:07

but with generals and my copy won't run with a no cd fix. the it doesn't run online if you have a fix.

RincewindTheWiz 22-03-2003 15:04

Mmmm.... check if there's some sort of safedisc 2 emulation that you can switch on in Alcohol120%. There's an option like that in Daemon Tools and that sometimes helps with incorrect copies. Also, check out this list of burners, only if your writer has two sheep in the EFM encoding column, is your writer capable of 100% copying.

Aaron3001 22-03-2003 15:45

i clicked on the link and it said page not found.

RincewindTheWiz 22-03-2003 15:52

That's funny, I just tested it and it works fine. Go to www.elby.ch and check out the list of supported burners.

Aaron3001 22-03-2003 23:47

ok, i got it to work and it said my cdrw drive was listed. though i was using alcohol 120%, i do have clonecd. how can i copy generals using clonecd with safe disc? i saw the option in 120%, i don't know where to look on clonecd. i'm new at all this so please help. thanks.

Gazkilla 23-03-2003 01:29

If you D/L Demon tools and follow the help manual you should get there. My backing upnow takes 3 min instaed of 5 hours:D

Afterlife 23-03-2003 11:56

Once youve made a backup, is it possible to make a backup of the backup or do you have to use the original again?

(talking safedisc2 here)

RincewindTheWiz 23-03-2003 12:02

If you made a backup that can be used without a crack, then yes you can make a working copy again, as long as you use a safedisc 2 compatible burner. This does not work for securom new titles.

Afterlife 23-03-2003 15:19

Ya i knew that thanks, just wasnt sure if it was same for safwdisc. I kept the image just incase anyways

Aaron3001 23-03-2003 19:01

i get this this message when selecting safedisc 2 in alcohol 120%.
a pop up window saying, "The selected drive is not able to make real 1:1 copies using this data type!" does that mean my drive is to old for safedisc 2?

RincewindTheWiz 23-03-2003 19:03

Nope, just that it does not do correct EFM encoding. Age has nothing to do with it, there are very old writers that do this correctly, and brand new ones that don't. If you really want to do exact safedisc 2 copying, then you'll need another burner. I would just use cracks or emulation (Daemon Tools/Alcohol120%) instead.

Aaron3001 23-03-2003 19:23

Thanks guys! i figured it out. i copied an image of the first generals disk with my copy of CloneCD. i then loaded the image on to daemon tools, took out my generals cd of cd drive and got it running without the disc and running online. thanks again for the help.
