whats goin on here...

ok heres whats new with my magic 3.1 v5 install. i made sure all the soldering connections were good. my ps2 plays OG ps2 games and psx backups, i cant get ps2 backups to boot i dont think this is a soldering problem seeing that i can play psx backups right? is this a media or perhaps a boot problem?

More than likely a media problem. What are you for media and backup software?

sublime90 17-03-2003 12:16

well my ps2 cd based games are burned on memorex, sony and fuji and they all worked fine before when i had my neo for my dvd based games i have a game burned on a verbatim dvd+rw maybe i should just burn it on a single use only i dont know if that makes a differance

CD-RW and DVD-RW are no good. I have heard of them working for some people but it is rare.

sublime90 17-03-2003 13:21

im using cd-r but its weird because it boots up psx original and copy and ps2 originals but i cant get the copys to load it goes right to the red screen i put the copy in turn the system off so its on standby and hit reset.

You said the games worked before with your NEO..... Are they by any chance patched?

Try re-burning your PS2 cd based game (original) with Clone CD and see if it will boot then....

yeah these copies worked with my neo none of them are patched and i reburned my copy of ico on a sony cd-r and it wont load.

sublime

BG 17-03-2003 16:58

Did you re-burn your "Original" game or did you try and re-burn the backup?

Also, what program did you use?

sublime90 17-03-2003 17:22

i made a copy of the copy for ico but for "the thing" it was a direct copy from the OG and i use nero. is there a differance if use nero or cd copy or cdrwin?

I would suggest trying Recordnow. there is another thread going on right now with a guy with a similar problem who solved it by going to recordnow.

BG 17-03-2003 19:55

Since "The Thing" is a cd based game, try using Clone CD to back it up......

sublime90 17-03-2003 20:02

ok i'll give recordnow and clone cd a shot and let ya know what happens

sublime

sublime90 18-03-2003 08:57

ok i made copies on recordnow max and clone cd and nero still wont load my ps2 backups, keep getting red screen

see if you can get access to a import cd based ps2 disc. Regardless of what it is at least you know that if the original doesn't boot either it is a install problem, or a dodgy chip.

sublime90 19-03-2003 07:25

at this point i think its the chip because if i installed it wrong it wouldnt play psx backups would it? im gettin a messiah 2 screw this lol

sublime

Jay_83 19-03-2003 07:46

not necessarily though dude, as each wire from the chip does various different operations.

The amount of times somebody says a messiah2/1 isn't playing one thing but the other and then charlie_ps2/dust2dust automatically suggest which wire it is is totally over my head.

Although it's prob best not to bother either of them with regards to a magic chip. Ask hull_chipper if he's still around as he knows his stuff with the magic series.

sublime90 19-03-2003 09:55

im gonna ask around to see if i can get it working thanks for the info

Jay_83 20-03-2003 01:39

No prob mate, let us know how you get on!

ok i juss ordered backups from *************

Moderators NOTE: Please don't post where someone can purchase backups from.

recieved them todat they work on my messiah 2 pro but they wont boot the first time i try( i have to try sum more times 2 make them boot)... wat does this mean(could it be the media)

cheers

oh it cums up please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc

thanx in advance

ottoman 20-03-2003 04:13

what u discribed is a symtom of usig incorrect wire during modchip installation.

If u not using right quality wire on your signal connections then u will get problem booting PS2 backups.

Came across this wen I first started chipping and thought u could use any old thin wire.

Always use kynar insulated awg30 wire wrapping wire for best results.

jdmullet 20-03-2003 05:13

ok i jus copied the SIMS backup i got from the site.......with clone cd (because it is cd format) using this thing i got from sum site(check it out www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ ) yeah and that booted fine........it is on double sided media(is this good or bad) one side is cd-r and the other is dvd-r(i think anyways)...

any help

sublime90 20-03-2003 12:10

i used the wire that they modchip ppl (cant say who) gave to me with the chip so i was assuming it would work. are you suggesting i go out and re solder my chip with new wire? im very tempted to get the messiah 2 use that good wire and do it up . this is like the 3rd chip i installed in my ps2 hopefully if i go all out with the messiah it will be the last
