which has more backup success: magic3/Messiah 2?

i'm still considering on purchasing one of these 2 for my vers 4 ps2. i just purchased a pioneer A05. i appreciate your advice.

i just went to IGW. and from what i read, the magic 3.1 doesn't state anything about dv9 support. only the messiah2 mentions it. what do y'all think about that?

inocent 16-03-2003 18:51

you should get the messiah 2, you won't be dissapointed.;)

Headly 16-03-2003 19:04

Magic 3.1 does have more succes at booting DVD9 games the magic 3. It still does not boot 100%. From my experience messiah 2 boots DVD9 100%, so long as you have a good laser.

bighap 16-03-2003 19:32

If you don't want to worry about having any problems, get a Messiah 2.

see_one 17-03-2003 17:50

how about DMS 3 chips with flash firmware? Are they better than Messiah2 for PS2 V7? :)

Headly 17-03-2003 18:03

Maybe one day they will be, but i doubt it. Right now they are still trying to work some bugs out.

jdmullet 17-03-2003 21:13

laser_wgn 17-03-2003 21:41

I think bighap knows his ****.
I never every head of a Magic Chip wrecking the laser, you must be thinking of the Neo 4 and Neo 2.2 Chips.

Has any1 on this forum had a Magic wreck there laser?

Headly 17-03-2003 21:47

Never heard of such a thing. Even took the time to do a web search and searched a very good forum I know of and found no good evidence that magic chips will damage your laser.

jdmullet 17-03-2003 22:14

Don't know of anybody in Missouri, but Bill at freedomlives.com does a superb job. He is just outside Chicago. You can check your ps2 version at his site as well.

rms2001 18-03-2003 05:59

Another great thing about Bill is he charges the same for what ever version of PS2 you have. Unlike some others I’ve seen online, charge more b/c you have a Ver4…

bighap 18-03-2003 07:07

Actually, he does charge $20 more if you have a v1 or v2, as these are more difficult installs.

rms2001 18-03-2003 07:28

Really? Hmm. I didn't ask about Ver1 or Ver2 when I email him on the price on a buddy's Ver4. He just said it was a flate rate of $60, for what ever PS2 you had.

Well what ever his charges its still cheaper then most dealers. And he does a great job.

bighap 18-03-2003 07:38

Even at $80 it is still worth it, but most people don't mod v1 and v2 anyways. Look here

whokilledcyrus 18-03-2003 19:09

where to purchase a modchip

now that we know who to send it to to get the modchip installed, who do y'all recommend to buy the modchip (messiah2) from?

also, is messiah2 the same as messiah2 pro?

BG 18-03-2003 19:55

Unfortunately.... We are NOT allowed to tell where to purchase mod chips anymore...

If you search the old posts in the forum, you WILL FIND the answer....

They have 4 versions of the Messiah 2: EUR, USA, JAP, and Pro.
The EUR only works in European systems, JAP for Japanese systems, and so on. Pro works in all systems. If somebody is selling a Messiah 2, assume it is a pro unless noted otherwise.
