is it possible to use a xbox link cable to ftp?

i know the x box link cable is a simple cross over cable....but can you use it to link up to your pc and ftp it?

dude 05-03-2003 04:12

if its a cross over cable you will be ok if its straite pin to pin cable it will not work.

clarky 05-03-2003 04:45

does anyone know the command line to use in win xp to test if the network between the pc and xbox is working?

Quall999 05-03-2003 07:30

load up cmd prompt and type "your IP number"

clarky 05-03-2003 17:59

ok i just did that and it says theres no connection...i dont think its the firewall because i turned that off...im on win xp home edition...any ideas?

AXmichigan 05-03-2003 18:21

what program are you using for ftp

clarky 05-03-2003 20:01

flash fxp 1.4

it does seem wierd...im certain the firewall is turned off and the pc ix detecting there is a network yet it aint connecting

JiveTurkey 06-03-2003 09:27

Yes, it will work. One crossover is the same as another. You must have some other problems. Try typing "ping (insert Xbox address here)" to see if you can get any connection to it.

clarky 06-03-2003 17:54

well i tried pringing it and aint finding it...is it ok to use ethernet connections?

JiveTurkey 06-03-2003 19:02

Ethernet connections? I don't really know any other possible way to connect to an Xbox.

You are doing at least one of the following wrong:

using the wrong cable - like a cross when you need straight or vice versa

using a bad cable

using the wrong IP address

mistyping the IP address

using wrong protocol

Check all of these things but if I had to take a wild guess I would probably say you are trying the wrong address. What address, what kind of cable and whats on each end of it would help.

clarky 07-03-2003 07:54

the adress the x box is giving me is 192.168.0.157

i'm using the offical x box link cable, each ends seem t fit in my pc and the x box

clarky 07-03-2003 17:42

ok i have tried updating flash fxp and still nothing...is it possible to actually connect to the x box without having the internet on?

JiveTurkey 07-03-2003 21:42

Hmm. The internet has nothing to do with networking your computer and Xbox. If you have an internet connection while connecting to the Xbox does this mean you have 2 NICs in your comp? Or are you using a hub, switch, or router?

clarky 07-03-2003 22:46

all i'm using is a cable connected from the pc going straight to the xbox

it seems if i try to connect to the xbox through flash fxp while my internet is off it wont even attempt to connect to it

clarky 08-03-2003 00:15

nevermind i got it working nowm, just uploaded crazy taxi 3 to the hd

rms2001 08-03-2003 00:23

So what were you doing wrong?

JiveTurkey 08-03-2003 00:39

Turned off the internet? Oh you're THE guy with the switch that turns the internet on and off!! :D

I swear internet has nothing to do with networking your Xbox.
You seem to be confusing internet, ethernet, and networks but glad to hear you stuck with it even if you're not sure how it was fixed. ;)

clarky 08-03-2003 12:32

just had ti set a static ip for my network on the pcs side...and by mircle it connected, playing crazy taxi 3 off it and already watched the resident evil movie using xbox media player, now all i need is a dvd writer :)

Get your hands on the Sony DRU-500A or DRU-500AX if your luck enough to find one.

clarky 08-03-2003 15:47

already got a pioneer dvr-a05 on its way

JiveTurkey 09-03-2003 17:05

Well thats not really a miracle. More like I suspected - IP address error.
Seems the DRU500 is always the one everybody talks about but I got an A05 cheaper and haven't had any problems.
