Aliens vs Predator 2 installation problem

I tried installing Aliens vs Predator 2 but I got a catastrophic kernel error at 97 %. I tried to uninstall but it would not work so I just deleted the whole "Fox" folder. Now every time I try installing it again a popup menu asks if I want to delete the components. I click yes and it says that it couldn't remove a few files in the windows directory but it won't tell me which folder these files are in. It won't let me install the game anymore. Is there any way to get around this?

krondike 01-03-2003 15:46

Are U using the original CD:s?

Locke99 01-03-2003 15:47

No

krondike 01-03-2003 15:48

Have U done the copy by your self? or have U download it?

Locke99 01-03-2003 15:49

My friend burned it, I don't have a good burner.

krondike 01-03-2003 15:50

Why don't U try to install the game from the original CD/CD:s then?

Locke99 01-03-2003 15:52

I don't have the original cd's, he does. I'm just wondering why I'm getting this weird error. I think that even if I use the original I will get the same thing because somewhere I still have some files installed.

Locke99 01-03-2003 15:56

I guess I will have to borrow the original to see if it makes a difference but if it doesn't, is there anyway to get around this?

krondike 01-03-2003 15:59

Weehoo U have just break 2 boarder rules on the same message.
These I was waithing for. :p

First of all the clear things up. If U own the CD U shouldn't have the copy of it. So if U do own the CD:s go to your friend and get it back. If U do so U only breaking 1 rule. :p

We aren't a tech support. So U must contact the tech support for help. :p

But to sheer you up a little bit. I've done som research for U. I just click on the search button. Amasing little thing that there are. :p

Well well click here to read more about it.
And read my signature for more info about boarder rules! :p

I don't download games and I don't pirate. Basically all I want to do is make a backup that will allow me to install without having to have the originals. My friend burned it but those are my cd's that he burned. :) We don't live close to each other so I won't be able to get them back for awhile. He was supposed to install from the burned cd's to see if they worked properly but he installed from the originals by mistake and we realized this as he was playing. Anyway, I didn't have time to stick around to test them at his house so I just took the copies for myself. I had to reinstall because I had uninstalled my game already.

I realize that this might be breaking your rules but I just want to know how I can get rid of this error. I really think that i can't install this game anymore even with my original cd's because it's showing that i still have it installed. I really messed up by deleting the folder but it was the only thing I could do because it wouldn't let me uninstall.

Thanks for the link but I had already done a search but I couldn't find the answer to my question, there's stuff about cracks in there. If you have any idea how I can fix this please let me know.

krondike 01-03-2003 16:16

It's not my rules but many people haven't understand the meaning of the rules. So I've just helping the moderator and the admin to have the rules in my signature. In that case people can read the rules over and over and over again. And maybe that should help people. But no, like 30 min ago I read a topic, that are asking "where can I download Tiger Woods 2003" new bies.

I don't know if this is a tech support problem ether. To be hounest many people are asking for support, I don't know if there are any clear line what are tech support or not. I'm gonna try to help U but I can't garantie (or what the spell is) if these topic is gonna be unlocked or not deleted, its not my judge its the mod or admin.

To your problem, I need to get more info about whay system your are running.
what OS and lot's of these stuff.

And I don't have the game. So I need to know what kind of install are they using. InstallShield, WindowsInstaller or something else?

Locke99 01-03-2003 16:23

I understand, I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not a pirate. I don't even download games from the internet but if this thread has to be deleted I understand.

The install is the same one used in the original game. Everything was going fine until that error. I'm not asking for any cracks or anything, I just want to know why it's doing this. I've never had an error like this before. I looked in my registy to see if there was anything left over but strangely there isn't even though I didn't uninstall it, I just deleted the folder.

I know this is not tech support but I thought some of you may have come across this same problem before and could tell me what to do. If this thread is not deleted and if you have any ideas about what I should do please reply here and I will check back tomorrow. Thanks.

krondike 01-03-2003 16:27

Well okey you didn't ask for my questions.
I can't help U if I don't more data.

OS
What the error message are exactly!

If I do know these things maybe I can't help but others have easier to help U ;)

Locke99 01-03-2003 16:29

Os is WinME

The original error message was a catastrophic kernel error at 97 % complete. I can't tell you the exact name of the error because I can't get to that point anymore. Everytime I try to install it gives me the option to remove components. There's no way for me to install this game anymore. I know it's not much to go on but that's all I can tell you.

Locke99 01-03-2003 16:30

I also this game using the real CD's on WinME so I doubt it's an operating system issue.

krondike 01-03-2003 16:31

Read this!
let me know if it's help U or not! :)

Locke99 01-03-2003 16:36

Thanks for the link but I tried most of that stuff.

I haven't tried this, "Delete the Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine folder and then rerun the setup"

I looked and I have this folder but I don't think it's there because of this game.

Locke99 01-03-2003 16:39

The link you showed me would be very helpful with showing me how to get passed that kernel error I got but I would first need to find out how to get rid of those files and it's not in the temp folder. I will re-read that page to see if I missed anything though.

krondike 01-03-2003 17:04

I don't know about those files. But I do know a little bit of Installshield 6x or higher. that can help U.
If the installation don't start or saying U have the game install. It's to thing U should look in one is regedit and one is the installshields folder. Where they place information about things. Uninstall Information is one map in program folder. My don't have any your maybe have. But don't erase anything U aren't shore of.

the second is InstallShield Installation Information also find in the program folder. (those to could be hide). Then U should have more folders with somthing about "{6BE2A4A4-99FB-48ED-AE1E-4E850389F804}" for example. Maybe the installation did a folder an put some information there. Can be so.

Well now U got a thing to look up.

Look in every folder. Look if U can in setup.ini If there is any text about Alien vs.... U know, delete hole folder. BUT before U delete. Make shore that is alien vs predidator 2 that are in the text. Second of all WRITE DOWN THE folder name.
If U find a folder with tha do like I said before then go to regedit, and search for the thing U wrote down. Second of all go to find files and mapp and do a nother search. Delete all the folders and regedit that's the "{xxxxxxxxxx}" are. Make shore that it is the right one.

IF U don't find the map there, go to temp folder and look for in every mapp, delete emptys, and look in the setup.ini files if U find the text i wrote before. Then do the hole thing again search and search in reg eidt. Don't forgett to delete those.

I'm very tiered so sory if U don't understand what U are goin to do. And I don't have the power to explain. But read what I wrote closely One rule is for shore. Make shore about what U delteing. And do notes hand writed notes about folder that U delete. Even do backups. With Winrar or somthing. The clock is 02.02 in night here so I go to sleep. Hopefoly this should solve the problem.
The things that's drives me forwad about installation problems, is how can the installation know that I have the game/software install. Well if U think about that question and U got many answer. Loock those things up, maybe that's the way installation file are looking up to know that the program/game are installed. A tip ;)
Good night!

Locke99 01-03-2003 17:08

Yes, it asks me if want to confirm if I want to remove the components when I run the setup to install it. If I click cancel nothing happens, if I uninstall it, it'll say that some files will have to be removed manually and it just states that it's in the windows folder.

I can't find the AvP uninstall option and I looked where you told me to look. Yes I guess I will have to get my originals back but even then I don't think it'll let me install.

Locke99 01-03-2003 17:12

krondike, I understand what you're saying and I did check the temp file but I could have missed something. I will take your advice and check it out again. Thanks again.

Locke99 01-03-2003 17:16

I checked the temp folder again and there's nothing there. I can't find the reg key for the instal sheild though. I'm going now but I'll check back tomorrow so if anyone knows please reply. Thanks.

If so look up this in the registry, then look through all the keys for the AvP uninstall option and delete it. This is where in the registry you need to find it.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall. You should get back your originals from your friend if you want more help.

What you suggested worked. I found the AvP uninstall option and deleted the key. Now the Aliens vs Predator uninstall option no longer appears in the control panel. This is exactly the info I needed, thanks alot. However, when I tried to install it again I got a catastrophic resource error (no error code). I guess it's a bad burn but at least it's not asking me to uninstall anymore when I try to install it.

krondike 02-03-2003 13:34

Maybe CDcheck can fix those problems!
go to gamecopyworld for a link to cdmediaworld and look for CDcheck. Very nice little tool that's help U recover some bad files from a CD. =)
