Hacking Combat Mission 2 Us 1.01
 

Ok, after not having any success finding a cracked exe for Combat Mission 2 US ENLGISH 1.01 version, I tried using w32dasm and HIEW to do some hex editing. A tutorial that I read tells me I should find the 'No CD-ROM' message and change the relevant offset hex to 90. However, i *think* i get progress becoz the splash screen comes up, but then the game hangs.

Can anyone offer me any hints or Tips? Or better yet, does anyone have the cracked exe? Thanks!!

EDIT1: OK from what I've tried, I've used the Import Function to find the Kernel32:GetdrivetypeA offset. However, I am lost now. from the tutorials I've read, there seems to be some jargon relating to conditional or unconditional jumps. How do i figure that out? Thanx.

EDIT2: YAY!!!! I've done it!!! Well, I didn't use any methods of tracking or anything, i just downloaded FBSA's ver 1.00 crack, looked what they changed, and applied the same!!! And it works fine!!!

Thanks Rincewind. I felt my method was a bit more like 'cheating' though, because I had to look thru the FBSA crack. Maybe one day i'll inspect the files more closely to see why those values were changed. But right now, I'm too busy playing the game itself. And ver 1.02 comes out soon, hopefully we won't have to wait several months for a crack. =)

BTW How do I send you a copy to distribute?

Combat Mission Version 1.02 comes out this wednesday. I'm gonna try to crack that one and send it again to GCW and Megagames.

Is that CMBB 1.01 you are going to crack, or CMBB 1.02 ?

Ok guys, ver 1.02 US CMBB is out at the battlefront.com website. A bit tired tonight, so gonna try tommorrow night instead. When it's done will send it to GCW and megagames (again) and see if they will put it up. Also will try to find a site to post it.

I resent that Graymalkin, Ask rincewind, I sent him a copy a while back. Just no reply from him.

Ok EVERYONE. I dont' actually have CMBB on my comp at the moment, but i unzipped the patch and attempted to crack the new exe anyways. All references to 00057deb5 beginning from 0017D169 onwards have been NOP as when i did that with ver 1.01 that seemed to eliminate the cd-check. Some of you may get the 'please insert disk in drive A" problems, but just click ignore a few times and the game will start.

This crack which i have emailed to everyone weighs in at about 2.7 megs, i hope you guys dont have an email size limit.

Whether it works or not please reply to this board. If you do not receive it please reply to this board. I will be getting my CMBB back this afternoon to test the results anyways, you guys will be updated.

EDIT: BTW whats the email limit for hotmail? I hope it's not 2 megs...

EDIT 2: Okay, im getting bounced messages of all the guys with hotmail. For those who AREN'T using hotmail, please reply on whether the crack works or not. Im currently trying to find webspace, but liquid2k is not accepting my request. Might have to use a yahoo group.

er...i just updated to 1.02 for cm2 and so, if you do a cm2 no cd crack that would be great... but isn't it for the US version? that wouldn't work with the UK version, would it?
